First look at the 2010 Longhorns

Posted by Vasherized on March 2nd, 2010 under Football

Here are some scattershots on the first open practice. The day after Mack Brown's Mom died he went right back to work. The man is committed. He seemed a little subdued but former Longhorns Justin Blalock, Rod Wright, and Colt McCoy kept his spirits up.

All about the big men

Posted by Nickel Rover on February 25th, 2010 under Basketball

Basketball: I was relieved to see Texas at least protect home court on Wednesday night while continuing to show developing play since the Kansas debacle. Again, until we see this teem demonstrate the same ball-movement and defense on the road the improvement is inconclusive. I had a feeling of dread before the game thinking, "if they blow this...I'm out. I'll watch but only through interest in the outcome, not out of hope for fulfillment as a

Mack Brown Press Conference Open Thread

Listen live here. Barrett Matthews will play some H Back and will see some action in two back sets. Admits the zone read didn't work great for Colt. Going to give Gilbert some different looks under center with different backfield alignments. Tray Allen will stay at LG (for now). CTJ was going to sacrifice a fifth ward orphan if he lined up at Tackle. Trey Graham still looking kosher at TE. Mason Walters, DJ Grant, Nolan Brewster,

Spring practice open dates announced

Posted by HenryJames on February 5th, 2010 under Football

There will be open practices on March 2nd and 8th, both starting at 4pm at Denius. The Orange-White game will be April 4th. Now some bad news. Mason Walters will miss the spring after having surgery on his left foot. I was hoping he would have taken the left tackle spot, but now we're pretty much fucked. Nolan Brewster will also miss the spring while recovering from shoulder surgery. So Blake Gideon will continue to start

Mustain’t gonna start at QB for USC

Posted by HenryJames on April 22nd, 2009 under Football

Looks like former Arkansas starting QB and Texas recruit Mitch Mustain won't be the starting QB for USC next year. When you begin your athletic journey by saying yes to Houston Nutt, you have to expect bumps in the road. Or a twenty car pileup. And so who is the starter? That's right. Aaron Corp. You say his name like you say the name Steve Holt! Why Corp? I mean aside from the

The Rhythm Method: 2009 Texas Tech Spring Game

Posted by Guest Columnist on April 19th, 2009 under Football

Uncle Bevo braved West Texas winds and the ever-present potential for mud rain to go out and scout the Pirates of The Plains. We're hopeful dedfischer of Tortilla Retort will reply. Here is UB's report. - SR ___________ Most people don’t associate delicate sensitivity with football. Some things just don’t fit together in our minds, like Donald Trump and quiet dignity, Lindsay Lohan and a clean hair follicle test, or Tom Cruise

Hope Springs Eternal

Posted by Vasherized on April 6th, 2009 under Football

Ah yes, that annual Spring rite where for every great play another teammate gets ridiculed for a missed tackle, lazy route, or for getting slammed to the ground by your own kicker who happens to be wearing the same color jersey. That special teams chicanery was just a clever new wrinkle from your friends in Belmont to keep you dazed and confused - the preferred state for buying decommissioned stadium grass at 50 cents a

Quick Thoughts on the Spring Game

Posted by Minnesotahorn on April 6th, 2009 under Football

Photobucket's giving me trouble at the moment but if I figure it out I'll post a couple of pics. This wouldn't be a problem if Sailor Ripley had dispatched the photographer I asked for. I hate being the new guy. A BCS Bowl win, a returning Heisman finalist and an absolutely gorgeous Austin day combined to make this the best attended Spring Game I've been to. I arrived an hour before the start and an unbroken-in

Spring Game notes

Or, rather, note. There is only one thing worth talking about, and that thing is our completely disgusting secondary.

Spring Game Post-Mortem

Posted by Scipio Tex on April 5th, 2009 under Football

The replay if your cable is ESPN360 compatible. Here's what the coordinators had to say. Assigning value to a zero sum game is a dubious task, but there is value in looking at individuals and specific areas of interest. The coaches mixed and matched personnel groups quite a bit, so I wouldn't read too much into any group's performance. It was great to see some football. And
