There’s Something about Avery.

Posted by jonestopten on March 12th, 2010 under Basketball

Trips Right's 33 volume Decline and Fall of Texas Basketball has not only been required post-disaster therapy for the Longhorn basketball fan (what is your hourly rate, anyway?) but also merits combat pay from BC's executive management. But there is one organ left in the vivisection of Rick Barnes that keeps bugging me: his arguably atrocious handling of Avery Bradley. I wrote earlier this season about Barnes' (usually useful) infatuation with psychological achievement drive, arguing

Incomparable in every sense.

Durantula Descends on Dallas

Posted by Patrick Bateman on February 13th, 2010 under Basketball

The All Star game is on Sunday, and K-Smoove is taking his rightful place amongst the NBA’s elite. What should be the first of many All Star trips will take place in Dallas in a sort of homecoming to the state where Durant’s star began its shine for most of the nation. Durant comes in second in the league in scoring, .2 points per game behind his Highness himself. He comes in having scored

Cool Jordan Hamilton Video

Posted by Trips Right on September 22nd, 2009 under Basketball

Just a few comments because the video really speaks for itself. First off, what a humble, down to earth kid. He'll be easy to root for. His relationship with his family is just incredible and it'll serve him well as he's navigating Austin and an NBA city in the near future. The one and done comments are disappointing but the kid's a lottery pick so who can blame him? On the court, the video

Interview with Jordan Hamilton

Posted by Vasherized on July 10th, 2009 under Basketball

h/t to BON (via mgrads). Jordan Hamilton with some candid thoughts on missing a year of eligibility, Paul Pierce, Michael Jackson, the decision to skip the NBA draft in favor of college (we'll let that one slide) and his all around mad skills. You could not draw up a more dangerous duo of incoming freshmen than Avery Bradley and Jordan Hamilton. Well maybe ipowers could.

Thoughts on the First Round of the NBA Draft

Posted by Trips Right on June 26th, 2009 under Basketball

Look, I hate the NBA. But because of its ties to the college game, the draft is arm's length enough for me to post on it. Kinda like the Rockets I suppose but that's more local interest than anything else. Also I'd be remiss if I didn't give credit to my true muses on the subject. The Astros suck, the Horns get taken behind the woodshed by L$U, and my boredom

Steve Lavin on NBA Combine and Damion James

Posted by Trips Right on June 4th, 2009 under Basketball

A couple of interesting points made by the former UCLA head man. First and foremost, and I agree with his assessment here, but he laments the new NBA combine format that focuses on individual drills and workouts instead of scrimmaging which places an emphasis on team skills and basketball IQ. I agree, and I feel that this format has allowed Damion to stay in the discussion as a draft eligible player.

Andy Katz: Damion James May Stay

Posted by Scipio Tex on May 29th, 2009 under Basketball

According to ESPN's Andy Katz: James remains on the bubble as to whether he will stay in the draft. He's considered a borderline first-round pick. He said if he can't get a guarantee in the first round, he'll "probably go back to school." "We can have a great team with Avery Bradley coming in, Dexter Pittman, Justin Mason, Jai Lucas as a transfer and everyone else," James said. "We can have a great team

Andy Katz on Damion James

Posted by Trips Right on May 21st, 2009 under Basketball

I somehow missed this article earlier in the week, but apparently Katz in talking with some NBA folks, thinks Damion James will stay in the draft. See the second paragraph after the combine list. I've heard that it's always been first round or bust for Damion, but some out there feel that an early guaranteed second round pick would be enough to entice the athletic forward into making the jump to the League.

Update On Damion James’ Draft Projection

Posted by Trips Right on May 11th, 2009 under Basketball

In the initial projection article we took a look at some internet mock drafts. NBA Draft.net had Damion going to the Kings at 24, NBA Draft Press had James going to the Cavs at 30, My NBA Draft had DJ falling into the second round. Fast forward a month and projections have changed for the athletic forward. Draft Express now has DJ going to the Heat with the 13th pick
