Around the Horns

Posted by Nickel Rover on February 18th, 2010 under Basketball

Football: Conference realignment is the king blog topic these days and some of the heavyweights have been drawn out to add their thoughts. Peter Bean writes that a move to the Pac-10 is a more likely scenario than the Big 10 but ultimately concludes that Texas is in a strong position to stand pat and still emerge on top in any potential storm. Our own srr50 adds emphasis on the almighty dollar and how Texas

Texas Basketball vs. Mizzou: Post-Mortem

Posted by Trips Right on February 18th, 2010 under Basketball

Another conference game against a top 40 opponent, another disappointing outcome. If the way this team is playing surprises you at this point after a 17-0 start, you need to start looking at it this way. The 17-0 team was a get up in your jersey, play free and loose, wear you down, onions dangling kind of ball club. The team that took the floor last night was never 17-0. In

Freshman on the road

Basketball: 1 step forward, 2 steps backward. Dexter Pittman, Dogus Balbay and Avery Bradley each had 4 turnovers while the team had 18 overall that led to 25 Missouri points. Beyond that, the Tigers had a layup-line from open drives and offensive rebounds that led to 58% shooting in the 2nd half and Mizzou pulling away with the win. Check out the box score here. Seeing their coach go crazy after a few of the calls

Anticipating 40 minutes of hell

Football/Recruiting: Vasherized HenryJames went a little further than me and gave some thoughts on the whole class as it stands at 13. Following that is some of the typical doom and gloom about OL recruiting, RB recruiting and so on. Our recruitment and execution of a running game is very puzzling to me but I know we have a lot of pieces on board already and aren't going to have a free-fall at

Crazy Wednesday Night in College Basketball

Posted by Trips Right on February 4th, 2010 under Basketball

Let's start in the Big 12 where Kansas needed overtime to dispose of an upstart Colorado bunch. Buff fans will lament the foul call with 36 seconds to play that sent Sherron Collins to the line to tie or take the lead. The call, quite frankly, was an amazingly bad bail out that had been a no call for the whole game. Well, if you were Colorado anyway. But get this, on their

Big 12 Hoops Title Chase

Posted by dick on January 19th, 2010 under Basketball

Yes, I am starting to think about this already.  Our basketball program has finally reached the point where it's all about the end and not the journey.  Big 12 Title and Tournament success or bust.  Our football team has been there for quite a while so we should recognize the feeling.  I'll break the race down between the "contenders".  Along the way, some teams may ascend to contender status (aTm, Ok St) while some may fall out (OU).  I'll

Texas Longhorns Offense Against Missouri: Football is hard

Posted by HenryJames on October 28th, 2009 under Football

We’re back! Sort of. Our offense actually looked really good for a half and pretty good for a quarter. Lots of small reasons and one big reason. Small reasons include Malcolm Williams in the starting lineup, moving Jordan Shipley back to the slot and the fact that the Missouri secondary was uniformly dumb.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly – Texas 41, Missouri 7

Posted by EyesOfTX on October 25th, 2009 under Football

When Texas played Missouri in 2004, I was completely convinced by halftime that the crew of Big 12officials who called that game had bet big, huge bucks on the Tigers to cover.

Looking @ Mizzou Football

Posted by Scipio Tex on October 22nd, 2009 under Football

Our most important road contest to date. Although Faurot ranks somewhere behind Stalingrad and Stadio Azteca in the list of great home field advantages, it is a place that can get rocking if the Tigers create some early confidence and belief.

Podcast. Now!

Posted by Vasherized on October 21st, 2009 under Football

What are these things exactly? Is it a verb? A movement? Another evil Steve Jobs invention? Forrester Research recently published a study that the average podcastionado makes $300K a year, scores a lot of pussy, and follows a team that always wins. Now is your chance to take a leap into the strange world of live chatrooms, awkward pauses, dead air, technology failures, wild ass theories, X's and O's, and in this case -- very
