Rich Rod & Michigan: A Transition in Trouble

Posted by srr50 on September 1st, 2009 under Football

The University of Michigan, the winningest program in college football, will open their season this Saturday with Western Michigan at home. Over 104,000 fans will be there and most of them won't have the faintest idea as to what kind of team, or what kind of season the Wolverines will have. That's because they aren't real sure if they have the right coach. At an emotional news conference Monday, Rich Rodriguez defended his program against

Practice: Day Five

Posted by HenryJames on August 14th, 2009 under Football

The first day in full pads. Finally. Mack Brown goes full cliche on his blog and quotes both Joe Jamail and Zig Ziglar. He's clearly aiming for srr50's demographic and is probably kicking himself for posting this before Les Paul died. Jamail makes people feel, uh, less positive than Ziglar. Pictures. Video of mostly player interviews. Player interviews. Allow me to summarize.

Big 10 BCS Road Record

Posted by srr50 on December 17th, 2008 under Football

Yesterday began a look at the BCS conferences and their non-conference road schedules during the BCS Era. The theory being that road records are a legitimate indication of the strength of a team and a conference since you face more hardships and usually tougher opponents when away from home. Today the Big 10 Big 10 Non-Conference Road Results Total                                            vs BCS 61-58    51%                                32-47    40.5% vs. ACC 6-2   75% vs Big East 9-3   75% vs Big 12 5-10   33% vs Pac 10 6-18   25% vs SEC 0-4    0% vs

Swimming in the Talent Pool

Just before Signing Day, we talked here about the Recruiting Rankings analysis that SMQ performed and he concluded how accurately Rivals was predicting winning percentages. "Rivals was very, very good at picking the top teams – of the top 25 winningest teams of the last six years, all were either pegged in or very near their respective positions by the recruiting rankings or achieved them by winning against overwhelmingly lower-ranked opposition; of the

Michigan Calls Rodriguez Up From The Minors

Posted by srr50 on December 20th, 2007 under Football

For the second time this year, Michigan made the call down to their AAA farm club in Morgantown, West Virginia to bring up a head coach. Rich Rodriguez Monday became only the 4th Wolverine football coach in the last 40 years. He joins former WVU basketball coach John Beilein on the Morgantown to Ann Arbor shuffle. Contract details have not been released, but it is expected to be in the $3 million a year range with

Saban to Miles: Take the Michigan job

Posted by BRAGGonUT on December 11th, 2007 under Football

According to the Detroit Free Press, Les Miles is talking to the Wolverines again. Miles had a phone conversation Friday morning with Michigan athletic director Bill Martin and school president Mary Sue Coleman, according to several people with knowledge of the call. While Miles did sign an LSU contract extension late last week, adding a year to his deal, his yearly salary -- around $2.6 million if he loses the BCS national championship game

Greg Schiano prefers track suits to sweatshirts

Posted by HenryJames on December 7th, 2007 under Football

Michigan is 0-2 in their head coaching search. After being turned down by LSU coach Les Miles last week, they've now been rejected by Rutgers coach Greg Schiano. Schiano apparently agreed to the job on Wednesday but had a change of heart. I'm guessing some Rutgers alumni told him either his signature or his brains would be on his Rutgers contract. To be fair Schiano is a Rutgers native, and he has resurrected that program.

No Dog In The Fight: How To Choose Sides In A Rivalry Game – Ohio St/Michigan

Posted by Scipio Tex on November 12th, 2007 under Football

Nothing arouses passion like the the rivalry game. The backyard brawl, the battle for bragging rights, the border war tussle. Even a fan with no dog in the fight can feel the tension...and their own confusion. Who to pull for? Investing yourself for three hours in a team that is not your own can be deeply satisfying, but if you choose foolishly, you'll feel as dirty as Paris Hilton's sheets. I've done that

College Football Bets Week 9

Posted by Trips Right on October 26th, 2007 under Football

Well, another kiss your sooner sister last week going 2-2. Overall, 24-20-3, up four units for the year. The writeups this week will be short and sweet, mainly because it's a big card and I've had a very busy week. Wisconsin -7.5 vs. Indiana. After two disappointing road losses Wisky bounced back in a big way smoking Northern Illinois and holding them without a first down for almost an entire half of football.

You must be 42 inches tall to ride the Coaching Carousel — that means you, HenryJames

Posted by BRAGGonUT on October 18th, 2007 under Football

As the college season makes the turn for the home stretch, it is clearly time to start talking about who gets whacked -- particularly given this weekend's Battle of the Buyouts in Lincoln. This year's coaching carousel seems destined to be as bloody as the last 6 episodes of the Sopranos.

Yeah, I'll fucking whack you

Michigan – They used to say, “You can’t spell Lloyd Carr without 2 L’s” and last
