The U: 30 for 30

Posted by Scipio Tex on December 15th, 2009 under Football

So I watched the 30 for 30 documentary The U. It was great on so many levels. I enjoyed it far too much, though I am admittedly an easy mark. Play a 80s rap track track over a tunnel brawl and I'm yours.

False Start!

Posted by Vasherized on November 6th, 2009 under Football

I came across an unlikely statistic on a site called cfbstats.com, which sounds like a place Huckleberry goes when he wants to get away from it all. Over the past five seasons Texas has led the nation by a good margin in forcing visiting teams into the collective missteps that fall under the guise of Illegal Procedure penalties: false start, delay of game, encroachment, etc. How Cleve Bryant and his minions have failed in citing yet another

Review: Oklahoma Sooners @ Miami Hurricanes

I was only able to watch about the last quarter and a half of the OU-Miami game on Saturday night, but I saw enough to make some flippant observations.

Barking Carnival’s Rx for Bye Week Blues

Posted by Scipio Tex on September 30th, 2009 under Football

No Paxil involved. As disappointed as we all are that Texas doesn't have a directional school from a dubious conference to pummel this weekend, you don't have to fall prey to the Bye Week Blues.

Is it possible to hate the Miami Hurricanes but like Randy Shannon?

Posted by CallKevin on September 25th, 2009 under Football

I think it might be. Seems to have happened for me. Helped to realize that the two years out of the past 25 that he was NOT directly a part of the Miami team were 1989 & 1990, meaning I can't cast much blame for the most miserable game I've ever attended on his shoulders (Baylor beating the snot out of us at home was close). Truthfully, I think Randy Shannon is a tremendous coach, and

Barking Bets: Week 4

Posted by Trips Right on September 24th, 2009 under Football

I continue to fall farther and farther below the Mendoza line of betting (55%) and it's starting to get to me. After watching the Kentucky Wildcats choke away a cover and suffering two kick returns for TD's against me in different games during my gambling day, I proceeded to make my way to DKR Stadium from my tailgate local, stumbling drunk and hell bent on chasing my losses. Cell phone in hand and

Miami Hurricanes vs. Florida State Seminoles a Ratings Hit for ESPN

Posted by srr50 on September 11th, 2009 under Football

It may have been a lousy weekend for the ACC, but the Labor Day matchup between Miami and Florida State was a ratings winner for hte league and ESPN. While the ACC went 4-6 in non-conference play, Miami edged the Seminoles 38-34 as 8.4 million viewers watched. That made the contest the second-most watched regular season college football game in the 30 years of ESPN. The most watched college football game on the WWL was

Preseason Roundup II

Posted by Huckleberry on August 26th, 2009 under

Some discussion of the Nebraska running back situation - Mendoza back to RB after Castille was booted. A look at Tyrod Taylor as he begins his first year as the clear #1 in Blacksburg - He sought the advice of Michael Vick. Hopefully the discussion was limited to being the Hokie QB. Two backup QBs leave Miami - Shannon makes it sound like a surprise and makes it pretty clear he thinks they

NCAA Taunting Rules

Posted by Scipio Tex on February 19th, 2009 under Football

The NCAA is putting some teeth into its NCAA Taunting Rules Click the link for Phenom's breakdown of the proposed rule changes; it's well worth the read. My thoughts: I support these stiff penalties wholeheartedly. Why? I just went back and re-watched the '91 Miami Hurricane Cotton Bowl. Love that opening kickoff With these

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly – Rice

Posted by EyesOfTX on September 21st, 2008 under Football

[I apologize for all the spacing issues in this post.  This software just baffles the hell out of me.]  I've been betting on college football games off and on for about 30 years or so.  Never put too much money on the line - it's just something I've done for fun, and to increase the interest level for each saturday's cornucopia of gridiron matchups.
