Why I am wrong about Georgia

Posted by jonestopten on August 5th, 2009 under Football

Maybe you are, too. I noted in a recent Scipio post on who was headed for a fall that perhaps Georgia had "maxed out" under Mark Richt (not a bad place to max out really, multiple 10/11 win seasons, conference titles, Sugar Bowls). I thought perhaps Georgia was becoming a team where all the stars needed to align in a given year and their year was last year. I'm wrong. If you take into

Urban Meyer is the best coach in college football

Posted by HenryJames on July 15th, 2009 under Football

At least according to two college football writers. Matt Hayes of the Sporting News has Meyer first followed by Nick Saban, Pete Carroll, Bob Stoops and Brian Kelly. He has Mack Brown sixth, and does not have Marc Richt in his top 15. Before anyone gets too upset about the rankings, remember that this is the same Matt Hayes who wrote this: Anyone who has followed Texas quarterback Vince Young and Texas A&M quarterback Reggie

I changed my mind, the game should’ve been cancelled

Posted by mdr on September 27th, 2008 under

I have done a complete 180 on this issue. When oil man Tex Pitfield suggested that Georgia governor Sonny Perdue call off the UGA - Alabama game to save gas, I like many others scoffed at the thought. After all, this was a huge game in the SEC, a boom to the local economy, and you know, like a really big deal and stuff, and we wanted to wear our black shirts,

Revising my Top 10 Coaches list

Yes, Nick Saban's had his team for less than a year and a half and he just dominated Richt's more talented unit.

This guy must be a Bama fan

Posted by mdr on September 25th, 2008 under

The president and CEO of Saraguay Petroleum, whose name is actually Tex believe it or not, has a suggestion for Georgia governor Sonny Perdue. Ole Tex wants to cancel the UGA-Bama game to save gas. The governor, who is a UGA man, is ignoring the suggestion. In other news, evil Richt made an appearance at yesterday's press conference. Like I said before, this is gonna be a fun one.

Whew – That was a Close One

Posted by mdr on September 14th, 2008 under Football

Ok, its been more than 24 hours and I have had time to collect my thoughts and come to grips with the fact that my Georgia Bulldogs nearly blew it against the Gamecocks. The same Gamecock team that has lost consecutive games to Vanderbilt nearly toppled the nation's number 2 ranked team. Of course, we're number 3 now, but that's neither here nor there. The fact of the matter is, this

New number one in the coaches’ poll

Posted by HenryJames on September 2nd, 2008 under Football

It's Southern Cal. Clearly ESPN the coaches are biased in favor of USC. USC and Georgia traded spots with USC getting 23 first place votes to Georgia's 20. Some Georgia fans are unhappy, others don't view it as much of a problem since USC plays #3 Ohio State in two weeks. It's too early for Georgia fans to be getting upset about this. If Georgia goes undefeated or loses only a

What Would Mark Richt Do?

Posted by BRAGGonUT on August 1st, 2008 under Football

Given the high brow discussion regarding how Stoops handled Dvoracek and how Brown handled Andre Jones, I found it interesting that Urban Legend Meyer was faced with a similar scenario. You see, Ronnie Wilson fired an AK 47 into the air to end a skirmish in a parking lot. He ultimately pled down the charges to misdemeanors and while on suspension from the team, supposedly failed a piss test.

College Football Bets Week 9

Posted by Trips Right on October 26th, 2007 under Football

Well, another kiss your sooner sister last week going 2-2. Overall, 24-20-3, up four units for the year. The writeups this week will be short and sweet, mainly because it's a big card and I've had a very busy week. Wisconsin -7.5 vs. Indiana. After two disappointing road losses Wisky bounced back in a big way smoking Northern Illinois and holding them without a first down for almost an entire half of football.

Can We Rid Mark Richt Of His “Offensive Genius” Title Yet?

Posted by ChrisApplewhite on October 9th, 2007 under Football

Mark Richt earned his reputation as an offensive guru at a place that was tough to succeed in the 90s, Florida State. In perhaps the promotion of the century, he made an almost Franchione-level good career move when he jumped ship after 2000. Chris Weinke had just won the Heisman, FSU was about to play in the championship and FSU had long been thought of as the pinnacle of college football. I was on 18 at
