Huge Recruiting News For Baylor

Posted by Trips Right on February 15th, 2010 under Football

Apparently the Bears received an verbal commitment from one of the truly elite backs in the state Brandon Williams. He was supposed to be visiting Texas this coming weekend and was a shoe-in to be offered by the Horns. Now he's a Baylor Bear. Just a huge get for BU considering Williams is vying for the top running back in the state honors along with Malcolm Brown, Aaron Green, and Herschel Sims. This

Decoding Day Four

Posted by Vasherized on August 13th, 2009 under Football

ChrisApplewhite's post about mean aggressors incited some existential dilemmas that have me questioning everything today. Then I read the usa-mexico futbol thread again and everything became whole. Now I feel like Keanu Reeves in Little Buddha. Whoa. Thank Tebow college football is back. As HenryJames already mentioned in his Day 4 recap of neatly codified links to entirely outsourced content, many different conclusions can be drawn from the

The Texas coaching tree

Posted by HenryJames on August 12th, 2009 under Football

Aside from rooting for Tim Brewster's success and Michael Haywood's imminent demise, I don't really give a shit about former Texas assistant coaches. Think of them as ex-girlfriends. Or high school classmates you only hung out with because it was high school. But something I do care about are ex-players from Texas who become coaches. There's a tangible connection to the University, and I generally root for success for any Texas grad save CloseToJumping and

Getting it done when scoring opportunities arise

Posted by BRAGGonUT on October 28th, 2008 under Football

Do you remember when we struggled mightily when we got to Goal to Go situations a few years back? Well, no longer. In 8 games this year, Texas has had 24 FIRST AND GOAL situations (3 per game). We have scored 23 touchdowns (16 rushing and 7 passing) in 44 plays. That is an amazing 96% scoring percentage on less than 2 plays per trip. We are getting there and punching it
Darrell Scott was the biggest recruiting story Texas fans followed for many, many years. It came down to the last week of the recruiting season which is, by far, the exception and not the rule for past 10 years. Scott was not just a 5-star recruit, but a top 5 national recruit. And he was from California, which makes him different to recruiting junkies. I am guilty as charged. Five stars

College Gameday in Austin?

Posted by BRAGGonUT on September 3rd, 2008 under Football

ESPN announced yesterday that Chris, Kirk, Lee, and Desmond (how does he still draw a paycheck?) are going to be in Gainesville for the Miami-Florida match-up. That should tell you how shitty this week's games are since this is not 2001 and Florida is favored by 3 touchdowns. That will be Florida's 28th appearance on College Gameday which leads the country. Here is the Top 10 list: Rank School Shows 1. Florida 27 2. Ohio State 22 T3. Florida

New offensive wrinkles vs. FAU

Posted by ChrisApplewhite on September 2nd, 2008 under Football

We know what a Greg Davis offense looks like. We know what a Greg Davis + Mack Brown offense looks like. But what does Major bring, aside from a churlish, shit-eating grin?

Reasons Why I’m Pumped About the 2008 Longhorns

Posted by EyesOfTX on July 9th, 2008 under Football

As one of the Award-Winning Barking Carnival’s resident curmudgeons, it will probably come as a surprise to some of you that I’m actually excitedly looking forward to the upcoming football season.  Yes, I expect this to be a bit of a down year for Longhorn football, and yes, I think the season’s most likely outcome is a regular season record of 9-3 or 8-4 and a berth in the

The Kool-Aid Index

Posted by ChrisApplewhite on June 2nd, 2008 under

In order for me to avoid thoughts of suicide over the summer I have to talk myself into certain aspects of the Longhorn football team. Usually it's some version of "Greg Davis will learn from his mistakes finally," and it never seems to happen. But that + trampolines + water sprinklers makes for a happy summer and that's the goal. Major Applewhite - 80% Kool-Aid This year's version of "Greg Davis will learn from his mistakes finally."
