Bradley or Hamilton?

Posted by Nickel Rover on March 20th, 2010 under Basketball

Basketball: Bradley or Hamilton? In an ideal world they are both back next season. Withought knowing how well they are responding to Barnes' style or what kind of draft grade they are looking for it's hard to project what they will do. Bradley has been listed as a mid-first round guy but I have trouble seeing it. He's a shooting guard all the way and 6'2" is small at that spot. His strength, defense, and offensive confidence

Texas Turns the Page

Well, WTF was that?  A train wreck is what.  That’s how the entire Texas basketball season can be described.

Big 12 Legacy

Football: Vasherized was there to record the developments from the open practice, Geoff Ketchum is opposing the new development on the grounds that it gives up too much of what worked the last 2 years. I'm feeling better from hearing both opinions. Sure the 3-step passing game of Colt's prime was good to Texas, but it was also dependent on super-accurate Colt throwing darts underneath to the Quan and Ship both of whom he had been

Texas Hoops vs. Oklahoma State: Post-Mortem

Posted by Trips Right on February 25th, 2010 under Basketball

A funny thing happened on the way to burying the 2010 Texas Longhorns. Defense. For all the handwringing and consternation bandied about on this and other sites about the Longhorn's anemic offense, defense carried the day...err...night. The ability to defend a four guard, spread the floor offense was the difference in winning and losing. Not personnel packages, five out looks, or iso's and two man games. The difference was straight

Texas Hoops vs. Oklahoma State Preview II

Posted by Trips Right on February 24th, 2010 under Basketball

Here's your primer on Oklahoma State from earlier in the year. The Cowboy personnel groups haven't changed a whole lot but ours have and that may be a problem. There is no Doge to tag James Anderson, but the talented wing isn't the shooter on the road that he is at home so we've go that going for us...which is nice. The same player scouting reports found in the game 1 preview

With Balbay Gone: 3 Ways to Easy Offense

Posted by Trips Right on February 23rd, 2010 under Basketball

In light of the season ending injury to the only real point guard on the roster I feel the need to go back to citing Rocky analogies. Again. Certainly coming to an Austin Sports Talk radio show in the next two days no doubt. I feel like jumping in my ferrari and driving around the suburbs of Houston really fast. I'm

Texas Basketball vs. Mizzou: Post-Mortem

Posted by Trips Right on February 18th, 2010 under Basketball

Another conference game against a top 40 opponent, another disappointing outcome. If the way this team is playing surprises you at this point after a 17-0 start, you need to start looking at it this way. The 17-0 team was a get up in your jersey, play free and loose, wear you down, onions dangling kind of ball club. The team that took the floor last night was never 17-0. In

Freshman on the road

Posted by Nickel Rover on February 17th, 2010 under Basketball

Basketball: 1 step forward, 2 steps backward. Dexter Pittman, Dogus Balbay and Avery Bradley each had 4 turnovers while the team had 18 overall that led to 25 Missouri points. Beyond that, the Tigers had a layup-line from open drives and offensive rebounds that led to 58% shooting in the 2nd half and Mizzou pulling away with the win. Check out the box score here. Seeing their coach go crazy after a few of the calls

The Great Freshman Debate: Jordan vs. J’Covan

Posted by Patrick Bateman on February 10th, 2010 under Basketball

Quick Editor's note: This was written prior to the Kansas game. - S.R. ____________________________ Halfway through Big 12 conference play, I think most Texas fans would have to describe this year’s squad as –frustrating. Okay, there are a few more strongly worded descriptions that we could use, but it’s not after 11 pm and children could be reading (yea, right.). While, there are a multitude of reasons offered up for our recent funk, I thought we might look
