Horn Basketball vs. Iowa State Conference Opener

Posted by Trips Right on January 10th, 2009 under Basketball

This will be a quick one, and I'm sorry for the brevity. I'd like to give you a synopsis of Iowa State's personnel and a few key points to look for during the game. As always we should have a pretty intelligent discussion after the game about what went down. I'd put the Barkers' collective basketball IQ up against any other site discussing Horns Hoops out there on the interwebs. So let's

Texas Football: Iowa State Post-Mortem

Posted by Scipio Tex on October 16th, 2007 under Football

Our opening offensive play - a 58 yard broken play McCoy TD pass to Jordan Shipley - told us all we needed to know about the eventual outcome of the game, the quality of Iowa St, the bizarre consistency of a Gene Chizik defense, the current state of our offense, and the unyielding inanity of Dave Lapham. I'm not sure what was more brutal: Dave Lapham or the crowd shots of Iowa State's fat

Liveblogging Texas vs Iowa State

How exciting! Current weather forecast for Ames says 53 degrees and raining. Current football forecast for Iowa State says 85 players and sucking. Corn fed chicks. Too bad you can't make meth out of corn. Random shot of some swans walking down a sidewalk. The Ames Board of Tourism wants you to believe it's just like Paris. Iowa State receives. Bret Meyer was raised by white parents. You'll understand when you watch him try to make plays off schedule. Scott

College Bets Week 7

Posted by Trips Right on October 12th, 2007 under Uncategorized

Had to change the title yet again as my local won't take my action after last week's domination. 4-1-1 in posted plays, with the only blemish being the Texas/OU loss which was a reverse psychology ploy to try to get the boys fired up. Unfortunately, Jamal Charles thought I was serious and did his level best to line my pockets. Thanks, pods, for helping me lose the battle and the war.

A look at the Big 12 North after two conference games

Missouri - Nothing about Missouri that we didn't know before the season. Great offense, bad defense. They've yet to lose one they shouldn't, but Gary Pinkel is still their coach. At Oklahoma this week should tell them how good they really are. They get Tech and A&M at home in what will be shootouts, but they have to play defensive minded Colorado, Kansas State and Kansas on the road.

Bash Your Bookie Bets: Week 5

Posted by Trips Right on September 26th, 2007 under Football

Gaining some momentum, I'm now a solid 14-10-2 overall and a perfect 4-0 on double unit plays. Up 8 units minus juice ain't too shabby. All plays 1 unit unless stated otherwise. Here are the plays. Southern Miss +11 @ Boise State. Yes, I realize this game is being played on the smurf turf, but this isn't your baby daddy's Boise State team. Ian Johnson has struggled running the ball without the benefit of the Zabransky passing

Bash Your Bookie Bets: Week 4

Well, I'm 9-8-1 overall but 3-0 on double unit plays for a decent +4 units for the year. It's been a below average run, but I'm still making money. The good news is that I really, really like this week's card. I like it more than Chooky likes frosted tipped boy bands, but not nearly as much as HenryJames likes the volleyball scene in Top Gun. So my feelings about

Arkansas State: That’s $20,000 per point

I live by the Golden Rule: “He who has the gold sets the rules”. Apparently, the stewards of the NCAA agree with me. The BCS schools (members of the ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Pac Ten, SEC and Notre Dame) average about $12M PROFIT per year from football while Bowl Division non-BCS schools (members of the Sun Belt, WAC, Mid American, etc.) average losing about $1M per year from football.
