Taylor Jungmann is the best pitcher in baseball

Posted by HenryJames on March 13th, 2010 under Baseball

College baseball. He's a witch. Last night he struck out 17 Iowa batters in only 7 1/3 innings of work. And got a no decision. More on that later. He's filled out his frame and is no longer all arms and legs like he was last year. His fastball has gotten, uh, faster, and last night his slider was unhittable. No, you wouldn't. He gave up a single run in the first inning

Spring roster is out

Posted by HenryJames on February 25th, 2010 under Football

Football is once again upon us. Today Mack Brown will hold his spring press conference and then tomorrow the first practice of the spring will take place. It seems like only yesterday we were playing...fuck that memory. But hope, in keeping with the theme, springs eternal. And nothing fills me with hope like the release of the spring roster! Now I don't give a shit about number changes. That's mom stuff. Paper currency. I'm

I suppose you have to be philosophical about a game like this one.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly – Cowboys 17, Redskins Zip

Posted by EyesOfTX on December 28th, 2009 under Football

Watching the Cowboys is in many ways like watching the Texas Longhorns – you have your QB who can scramble and make good stuff happen when plays break down, an offensive line that is not much good at pass protection, one great wide receiver and kind of a crap shoot after you get past him, a highly-paid offensive coordinator who often drives fans batshit crazy, and a defense that keeps the team in pretty much

Why Texas Stomps a Mudhole In Nebraska

Posted by CloseToJumping on December 3rd, 2009 under Football

I cannot believe what I’ve been both reading and hearing from the various talking heads and speds out there in college football netdom since the Thanksgiving game against ATM. It’s all over the Internet, radio, and television that “Nebraska has more than a puncher’s chance going up against Texas this weekend.” Etc. Hell, you can find it on our own boards. The Sooner and ATM boards are begging for a Nebraska victory. Have we

Looking @ Nebraska Defense

Posted by Scipio Tex on December 2nd, 2009 under Football

Defense Judging from the Coaches All-Big 12 team, this is the finest collection of defenders the Big 12 has ever seen. Outside of the Big 12 North Galapagos where there are no offensive predators and beyond the Big 12 South Bob Stoops sewing circle, they're the 2nd or 3rd best defense in the league with all of their impact players loaded on the DL and 1-2 secondary spots.

Why Texas Stomps a Mudhole In TAMU’s Ass

Posted by CloseToJumping on November 24th, 2009 under Football

It never fails. We march through an entire season’s schedule like a rolling ball of butcher knives, as we have this season. Yet, inevitably, some of the mouthbreathers within our fanbase will still find a way to make an appearance at some point on the schedule to tell us all why we really should fear “Team XYZ”. Making matters worse for any of us with any sanity about what we’ve seen from this team, these

Defensive Stats That Matter

Posted by HenryJames on November 17th, 2009 under Football

Long story short. The Texas defensive coaches pay attention to certain stats not produced by Huckleberry. They’ve gotten better at those stats. The dilettantes at Pulling Teeth are totally incredulous that someone can hold Nick Florence to less than 400 yards passing and that people from Austin don’t want to visit Branson. So let’s take a look at the (drum roll) 2009 Defensive Stats That Matter! and mock Missouri’s defensive futility in

Defensive Thoughts: Texas Longhorns @ Baylor Bears

Things started off about as well as Baylor could have hoped on their first drive of the game.

One of my favorite things to do is show up to Horns basketball games 60-90 minutes early, grab a Hat Creek cheeseburger, and watch the guys go through drills.
