Pressure Building on Bobby Bowden

Posted by srr50 on October 4th, 2009 under Football

From 1987-2000 Florida State was 152-19-1, finishing in the Top 5 for a incredible 14 years in a row. Since 2006, the Seminoles are 24-19, and even the hometown media thinks it is time for Bowden to step down. With the 28-21 loss to Boston College on Saturday, the Seminoles have now lost two straight since moving to No. 18 in The Associated Press Top 25, including last week's 17-7 victory by South Florida.

Whaaaaaaaatttttt?!?!?!?!?!?!?

OU Reports Secondary Violations: The documents indicate head football coach Bob Stoops and assistant football coach Jackie Shipp and assistant women's basketball coach Stacy Hansmeyer made impermissible calls to one prospect each, while head women's basketball coach Sherri Coale inadvertently sent a prospect a text message. From the WWL Since this is the 2nd infraction since being place on probation, one can only assume that the NCAA will bring down the swift hammer of justice on

Memphis Indiscretion May Lead to Kentucky Headache

Posted by Trips Right on August 20th, 2009 under Basketball

More on cheating from ESPN. I like the trend. Anyway, this is in no way a shocker to the folks that were paying attention. John Calipari, neck tats, and entrance test shenanigans go together like peanut butter and jelly. Throw in the cess pool that has always been Memphis basketball, and an NCAA investigation was a matter of when and not if. As for vacating wins, that is merely a flesh

NCAA Investigating Tennessee Freshman Bryce Brown

Posted by Trips Right on August 19th, 2009 under Football

Not surprising when you consider all of the clowns that took part in this circus. Lane Kiffin, Brown himself, and most interesting to me, a handler named Brian Butler. The following excerpt, if true, is bad news for players that are now playing the street agent game. It could also be bad news for our pal Will Lyles and other sleaze bags. Sources told ESPN.com that the crux of the NCAA’s

SI Explains Why Athletes Go Broke (But Lenny Dykstra & Chance Mock Will Save Them)

Posted by Scipio Tex on March 23rd, 2009 under Uncategorized

Newsflash: many athletes are sheltered, not particularly bright, prone to wild speculation, have no financial acumen, and are easily manipulated. So they're basically like the average American, but with superior vertical leaps. At least that's what Sports Illustrated contends in How (and Why) Athletes Go Broke Consider: • By the time they have been retired for two years, 78% of former NFL players have gone bankrupt or are under financial stress because of

So Georgia Offered to Double Jeff Capel’s Salary

Posted by Trips Right on March 6th, 2009 under Basketball

The story went public in the Tulsa World News on Wednesday. GeorgiaSports blog has a good discussion on the situation. My question is what happens when the heavy hitters from the ACC like Virginia and perhaps Maryland jump into the fray? I doubt a football school like Oklahoma, in the context of a global financial crisis, can afford to getting in a bidding war with traditional basketball schools. Sure, the

Jamarku$ McFarland already backtracking on New York Times story

Posted by Trips Right on December 28th, 2008 under Football

A tip of the cap to poster 98 for the heads up. Outstandingly predictable snippets about Thayer's Fantasy Island article on the McFarland recruitment.

Girls Romancing each other at a Texas Football party?

The Times article included inflammatory statements McFarland had written about the recruiting practices of Texas and LSU for a senior English class assignment. McFarland said he embellished a passage taken from the English paper
