Forecasting The Big 12 South – 2009

Posted by TaylorTRoom on July 30th, 2009 under Football

Anybody have a problem with speculative guessing, supported by a framework of decent analysis techniques but sketchy inputs?  I didn't think so. In trying to predict the Big 12 South this year, what information do we have to work with? Only the schedules. Any power ratings of teams are just guesses and predictions right now. Once the games start, and the results come in, we'll have a much better idea of relative quality and chances to

If Vegas is so freaking smart, how come it's in Vegas? The answer is, of course, that Vegas isn't smart. It's wise. Trips fed you individual game early lines. Here are your early CFB season odds. National Title Florida 2/1 Oklahoma 9/2 Texas 11/2 Southern California 6/1 Ohio State 12/1

Predicting The Big 12 North

Posted by Scipio Tex on July 10th, 2009 under Football

It will be a three team race to determine this year's sacrificial lamb for the Big 12 Championship game in Arlington. Assuming nothing of significance occurs on the injury front or that Cody Hawkins doesn't grow three inches from hanging on monkey bars, the contenders and non-contenders break out pretty cleanly and, affirming my South-o-centric view, each North contender's Big 12 South draw will be the primary determinant of who gets to receive blunt

The Big 12’s Winningest Football Coaches Since League Inception

Posted by Scipio Tex on May 7th, 2009 under Football

The board's favorite object of Sooner abuse has put up an interesting analysis concerning Tim Griffin's Big 12 Blog detailing Big Game* Bob's dominance over the rest of the league. I certainly concede the argument to Oklahoma simply on the basis of Big 12 hardware though the postseason letdowns are becoming increasingly brutal for Sooners fans to endure and obfuscate Bob's league dominance. I was actually somewhat more interested in

The boys up in Norman are having a good time watching the Texas fan base get all stirred up over an * as well as some  pay raises But Bob Stoops just says it's no big deal because I know where the trophy is.

Texas coaches get paid bonuses for winning Big 12 championship

Posted by HenryJames on April 7th, 2009 under Football

In football. Athletic Director DeLoss Dodds received permission from UT President William Powers Jr. and the university's men's athletic council to pay $44,000 in bonuses that are called for when the football team wins a conference title. Will Muschamp, Greg Davis, Jeff Madden and Cleve Bryant all got $5,000, and the rest of the assistant coaches got $3,000. Mack Brown did not receive the bonus.

The Coach’s Poll Sewing Circle

Posted by Scipio Tex on December 1st, 2008 under Football

Objectivity's handmaidens You can lay blame for the upcoming Whipped By Texas Bowl on a number of institutions (the Big 12, the BCS, the Knights Templar), scientific phenomena (recency bias, Heisenberg uncertainty principle) or trends (our society's bizarre fixation on fabricating novelty where there is none), but at the end of it all I point my finger cleanly at one group: the coaches. Anonymity is the enemy of transparency and allowing

How It Plays Out

Posted by Scipio Tex on November 22nd, 2008 under Football

Well, that was interesting. And not necessarily bad. OU's destruction of Tech effectively removes the Raiders from the MNC picture entirely. Yep, even a Texas Tech Big 12 Champion. I'm going to assume a Texas win in Austin over A&M. The quality of that win has implications and Mack needs to be cognizant of that fact. Tech over Baylor OU over OSU If Oklahoma blows out Oklahoma State
