Coltable Quote

Posted by HenryJames on December 11th, 2009 under Football

I mean 'Quotable Colt.' McCoy is aware that Statesman columnist Kirk Bohls did not cast his Heisman ballot for him. And so Colt uncharacteristically let it be known publicly that he didn't appreciate the slight. "Tell Kirk Bohls thanks for all the votes. You can put that on the air or anywhere you want." Like the internets. Angry Colt? I think I like it, but I don't know how long it will last because he spent the next hour

McCoy wins the Walter Camp Award. Again.

Posted by HenryJames on December 10th, 2009 under Football

Colt McCoy repeats as the Walter Camp Football Foundation Player of the Year. Congratulations on winning an award that CTJ claims is more prestigious than the Heisman. I kid. Ricky won it in 1998, and now Colt wins it again. And this shit does matter, not least of all for recruiting. When you give a recruit a tour of your trophy case, it's nice to have some big ones (that's

Heisman finalists announced

Posted by HenryJames on December 7th, 2009 under Football

McCoy, Tebow, Ingram, Gerhart and Suh. Interesting that 3 out of the 4 offensive candidates play on teams that owe most of their success this year to their defense. If Heisman voters waited until the final weekend to decide, Suh will win. But he won't.

McCoy wins the Unitas

Posted by HenryJames on December 3rd, 2009 under Football

The Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award goes to the top senior quarterback. Tim Tebow is also a senior quarterback. Tim Tebow did not win. This will not end well.

Earl Thomas is a finalist for the Thorpe Award

Posted by HenryJames on November 23rd, 2009 under Football

Along with Florida's Joe Haden and Tennessee's Eric Berry. As I predicted. Thomas is second on the team in tackles and PBUs and has tied a school record with seven interceptions this season. Berry has been playing closer to the line this year from what I've watched, but Thomas only has one fewer TFL and the same number of forced fumbles. Thomas deserves it.

The Cynic’s Guide To The 2009 Heisman Race

Irony.

Full disclosure: I detest the Heisman. Even more than hipsters. Except when a Longhorn wins.

Earl Thomas a Thorpe Award semi-finalist

Posted by HenryJames on November 4th, 2009 under Football

Earl Thomas is one of 12 semi-finalists for the award given to the nation's best defensive back. He'll definitely be one of the three finalists, and he should win it. Doesn't hurt that he makes highlight plays each week. His main competition will come from Tennessee's Eric Berry and Florida's Joe Haden.

Earl Thomas is on the Thorpe watch list

Posted by HenryJames on August 8th, 2009 under Football

Texas' Earl Thomas is the only sophomore on the Thorpe Award watch list. It looks like he's finally getting some national recognition. He'll be even better this year. Unfortunately he has no chance to win it because Eric Berry of Tennessee should win this going away.

The man with the golden arm

Posted by HenryJames on July 21st, 2009 under

The candidates for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award were announced a few days ago. Twenty two players are on the list. Not Johnny Unitas. You would think that one of either Colt McCoy, Sam Bradford or Tim Tebow would win it. Well maybe not Tebow. You know, the whole graven images thing. But the award has a recent contrarian history. Out of the last seven quarterbacks to win the Heisman, Carson
