New Year’s Day bowl games open thread

Posted by HenryJames on January 1st, 2010 under Football

First up is the Outback Bowl between Auburn and Northwestern. I don't get Outback Steakhouse. I don't get Australian-themed restaurants in general. I mean, what the fuck is walkabout soup? And what the fuck are jackaroo chops? But I guess if you like it that's cool. Northwestern's quarterback looks older than their head coach. And he's named Kafka which at least one sideline finds funny. What's funnier is that he's throwing to a couple of guys

The Iron Bowl & Gene Chizik

Posted by CloseToJumping on November 27th, 2009 under Football

When Gene Chizik coached our defense, they normally looked a lot like they did last night. I didn’t hate the guy in ways that were unhealthy, but Scipio and Chris Applewhite certainly did.

Barking Carnival’s Rx for Bye Week Blues

Posted by Scipio Tex on September 30th, 2009 under Football

No Paxil involved. As disappointed as we all are that Texas doesn't have a directional school from a dubious conference to pummel this weekend, you don't have to fall prey to the Bye Week Blues.

Football Miscellany

The NCAA dropped the probation hammer in response to recent shenanigans - I was as surprised as you to learn that it wasn't Southern Cal or Oklahoma getting disciplined for payments of players or thumbing their nose at eligibility requirements, but rather BYU-Hawaii. SI.com reports that it's not impossible to stop Tebow - How do you stop 3.8 yards per carry?!?!? YOU CAN'T!!! Texas is #2 in CFN's 5-year rankings - I've always

2009 Iowa State Football Preview: State of the Union

Posted by Vasherized on August 25th, 2009 under Football

Perhaps a fitting sign of where things stand in Ames, Iowa with football season just two weeks away is the cover story at cyclonereport.com which features a recent commitment by some dude named Melvin Ejim – to the basketball team. CloneChronicles.com is all over this breaking story as well. In fact, every news outlet in Ames is devoting its full attention so they don't have to talk about the sad state of

Preseason roundup

Former Nebraska RB Thunder Collins convicted of murder - Suddenly Lawrence Phillips really is a good kid. Florida Gator safety Dorian Munroe underwent knee surgery - The story says he was fighting for a starting spot but some of the more informed Barkers will have to let us know how serious this is. Auburn backup running back Eric Smith knocked a guy out - He hit the guy in the back of the head.

Gene Chizik is a n*gga

Posted by HenryJames on December 15th, 2008 under Football

At least according to Iowa State player Darius Darks. Darks posted his video response to Chizik accepting the Auburn head coaching job on Facebook. "A lot of people asking me what I'm going to do with coach Chizik leaving. I understand business is business, but this man lied," Darks said in the video. "At a team meeting he was sitting there saying 'I told your mother, Jerrod Black, and I sat on your auntie's couch,

Auburn hires Texas defensive coordinator as head coach

Posted by HenryJames on December 13th, 2008 under Football

Former Texas defensive coordinator that is. ESPN, the same network that reported Auburn hired current Texas DC Will Muschamp two days ago, now says Auburn has hired Iowa State coach Gene Chizik as its next head coach. What could go wrong? The Cyclones went winless in Big 12 play this season, and their win total has dipped in each of the past three seasons. Last week, Chizik stripped offensive coordinator Robert McFarland and defensive coordinator Wayne

Will Muschamp Will Not Be The Next Coach at Auburn

Mr. College Football says so, and that’s good enough for me.

Mike Leach: Happiness is Lubbock in My Rearview Mirror

Posted by srr50 on December 5th, 2008 under Football

Leach keeps trying to live the title of that old Mack Davis song, he just can't find anyone who is willing to bail him out. Tennessee? Nope, they went with a 33-year old whose only head coaching experience was a disaster in Oakland. Clemson? Nope, they went with an assistant on the staff of the guy they fired. Washington? Nope, they went to the same coaching tree as Tennessee and are hoping that a Pete Carroll assistant is
