#2 in both final polls

Posted by Huckleberry on January 8th, 2010 under Football

Coaches' Poll AP Poll Boise State finishes #4 behind Florida. Cincinnati is #8/#9. They didn't look like a Top 10 team to me (for reference, we dropped from #3 to #12 after getting whooped by Miami in the Cotton Bowl).

The 2008 BCS and Texas

Posted by TaylorTRoom on December 14th, 2008 under Football

I've put a lot of thought (and even more teeth gnashing and head-beating) into this post.  I've tried to support it with data, but by necessity a lot of it is conjecture, although well founded in my opinion.  If anybody can hack the numbers better, I would like to hear them. The November 30 BCS, which had OU 2nd and UT 3rd, drove a lot of the endgame of the 2008 season in college football.  It

Longhorns Record as a Regular Season #1

Posted by srr50 on October 12th, 2008 under Football

Here's a piece of trivia that will only be good to use until Saturday (I think). The first game Texas lined up as the #1 team in the nation during the regular season  and the last regular season game that the Horns entered as the top team in the nation have both ended in a tie. In 1941 Texas was the newly minted #1 when the Horns were held to a 7-7 by Baylor in Waco. The

The Big 12 is now the best conference in college football

Posted by BRAGGonUT on September 17th, 2008 under Football

Get used to it, SEC fans. OK, I actually think the Big 12 deserves a meaningful discussion with the SEC, but since every SEC blogger and bulletin board posse have set Google Alerts for all discussions regarding best conference, I figured I’d poke them in the eye so their dander would be up by the time they made it over to Barking Carnival to defend their flag. I do expect that by the

Anti-Parity and the 1971 College Football Season

Posted by Huckleberry on August 22nd, 2008 under Football

This post was prompted by the good discussion taking place on Scipio Tex's Oklahoma Preview. The conversation starter was the fact that my ratings had 1971 as Oklahoma's best team despite their loss to Nebraska. While you can read the rest of the discussion there, the short answer is that the 1971 season was full of great teams. Here is the final Top 15 in my 1971 ratings, which includes all

You forgot Pollin’

Posted by HenryJames on August 19th, 2008 under Football

Pollspeak has a cool feature called Pollstalker that allows you see how the voters ranked your favorite team in the AP Poll. So I was naturally curious to see who likes Texas more than others. Or more accurately, who doesn't like Texas enough. Three dudes had Texas ranked seventh: Matt McCoy of WTVN-AM Radio (OH), Maurice Patton of The Tennessean and Tom Keegan of the Lawrence Journal World. Good answer. Good answer. I
