Why I am wrong about Georgia

Posted by jonestopten on August 5th, 2009 under Football

Maybe you are, too. I noted in a recent Scipio post on who was headed for a fall that perhaps Georgia had "maxed out" under Mark Richt (not a bad place to max out really, multiple 10/11 win seasons, conference titles, Sugar Bowls). I thought perhaps Georgia was becoming a team where all the stars needed to align in a given year and their year was last year. I'm wrong. If you take into

Roy Miller gets paid

Posted by HenryJames on July 13th, 2009 under Football

Former Longhorn Roy Miller signed with Tampa Bay today. He gets a $770,000 signing bonus to go along with the league minimum of $437,500 as his base salary over four years. He's the latest in a long line of defensive tackles who played under Mack Brown that signed NFL contracts. The others are Casey Hampton, Cedric Woodard, Shaun Rogers, Marcus Tubbs, Corey Redding, Rod Wright, Frank Okam and Derek Lokey.

Previewing the Super Regionals

Posted by Huckleberry on June 2nd, 2009 under Baseball

All times local TCU at Texas Saturday 5 p.m. (ESPNU), Sunday 2 p.m. (ESPN), Monday 12 p.m./6 p.m. (ESPN/ESPN2) if nec. Ratings say: Texas 52.3% The second best super from a competitive standpoint according to the ratings. Texas is favored only because of the standard homefield advantage applied to the ratings. I haven't watched TCU play this year, so someone else can hopefully chime in here. Texas comes in with the #68 offense and #6 defense

Berry Tramel Calls Out Stoops for Chaisson

Posted by Trips Right on May 13th, 2009 under Football

A great article this morning from one of the few potentially sane people in the Sooner state when it comes to the Chaisson fiasco. I congratulate Mr. Tramel (he of the Bullfeathers episode) for telling it like it is and calling a sociopath a sociopath. As HenryJames pointed out, this screw driver wielding Don Juan is available ladies. To step up Justin's game with campus coeds, I predict the sweet

Gary Cartwright Loses His Best Friend

Posted by srr50 on May 8th, 2009 under Basketball

And we lost one of the best damn sportswriters Texas ever knew. Bud Shrake was one of the last of the dying breed that Scipio writes about in this post Bud Shrake, Gary Cartwright, Blackie Sherrod, Dan Jenkins, Dan Cook, Mickey Herskowitz, Jack Gallagher, Dave Cambell and Lou Maysel. These were my childhood heroes. These were wordsmiths who made you want to head down to the newstand on Sunday and buy every out-of-town paper they

Baby Boomers: “An Audience That Has Assets, Not Allowances”

Posted by srr50 on April 20th, 2009 under Uncategorized

Well here we are, inhabiting this Brave New Digital World, full of Blogoshpheres, Plugins, Links, RSS feeds, trackbacks, pingbacks, and a different brand of new media every week to help Gen X keep its ADHD addled minds abreast of every new technical wizardry that comes down the test tube. Of course Barking Carnival seemlessly slid down that tube and is firmly entrenched in our Burnt Orange Corner of the World. And we can thank the Gen Xers

Stoops to Brown: “Kiss My Trophy”

Posted by srr50 on April 9th, 2009 under Football

The boys up in Norman are having a good time watching the Texas fan base get all stirred up over an * as well as someĀ  pay raises But Bob Stoops just says it's no big deal because I know where the trophy is.

Preview of the Kansas Game

Posted by Trips Right on March 5th, 2009 under Basketball

Anyone that watched Kansas get dismantled by an upstart Texas Tech team on the road had to scratch their head and say, "Well, Kansas is beatable." Hell, the defending National Champs had just been blown out by a team with two conference wins and horrifying losses like a 55 point drubbing by Stanford and a loss to Lamar. For Pete's weiner the Red Raiders gave up 115 points to East Central. Yes.

Can I See Dead People?

Posted by The General on March 3rd, 2009 under Basketball

On Trip's Right's Baylor Post, kevwun raised a valid question regarding The Doge of Jester and whether he has the ability to un-Gottlieb. Or, more plainly, Can Doge learn to shoot? This is the overriding question for the Doge Balbay fan club. It is the difference between being a leader on a team that is going to back to back Final Fours in 2010 and 2011, and being the odd man out in the
