Bush Paves the Way for Henderson?

Posted by Patrick Bateman on March 15th, 2010 under Football

Are we really surprised?  Today, reports are swirling that Seantrel Henderson, a five star recruit, the #2 overall recruit by Rivals, and future knight of the roundtable, will finally make it official in the coming weeks and actually sign his LOI with everyone's favorite left coast juggernaut, USC.  Why is this relevant?  He was expected to sign there.  Well, for two reasons: 1.  This may be an indication of the paddy cake that the

Our long national nightmare is over

Posted by HenryJames on March 11th, 2010 under Football

Quandre Diggs committed to Texas last night. The commitment was reported first by Sir Gerry Hamilton of ESPN. Texas' offer was his 25th. Free article over at InsideTexas. The Texas offer was the 24th offer for Diggs who was also courted by Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas A&M among many others. Florida, Georgia and USC were

MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference

Better known as Dorkapalooza. The conference was held on March 6th, headlined by luminaries like Rockets GM (and '00 Sloan School grad) Daryl Morey, author Michael Lewis, Colts GM Bill Polian, Mavs owner Mark Cuban, and ESPN Bah-stahhnophile Bill Simmons.

Texas Offers Florida OL!

Posted by Patrick Bateman on March 2nd, 2010 under Football

Update:  Max Lang, besides being slower than Shaun Rogers going to a yoga class, also is hard of hearing.  Texas did offer......it was just followed by a Tech! Apparently, we offered Max Lang from the Orlando, Florida area.  He claims we called him pretty much out of the blue and offered.  Other offers per Rivals are FSU, FIU, South Carolina, South Florida, and UCF.  Some should be happy he's not an in-state kid. 6'4", 276 lbs.

Barnes is slower than Colt McCoy

Posted by Nickel Rover on February 28th, 2010 under Basketball

Basketball: Trips did another excellent post-mortem after yet another tough road loss. This is a game Texas has been unable to solve for some time, as I wrote before. Kansas won in Reed Arena by 5 thanks to dominant play by Aldrich late in the game. Texas couldn't get dominant, reliable offense from anyone...except Jordan Hamilton. Last we checked Hamilton was capably serving in a Ginobili-esque, come off the bench and be the creator for

#16 is in.  Kendall Thompson from Carthage, Texas.  LB that could be spun down to DE or TE, Gerry Hamilton speculates. #17 is in.  Garrett Greenlea.  OT from Klein, Texas.  We're going heavy on the OL.

I like Taylor Bible’s enthusiasm

Posted by HenryJames on February 25th, 2010 under Football

Bible said this week that Texas will win four national championships and the next four Red River Rivalry games while he’s a Longhorn. His predictions seem to throw all those low-key, humble observations about him out the window -- except when you hear the reasoning behind his projections. "The teamwork, the chemistry, the trust, the coaches and the talent we possess,” he said, explaining why Texas will four-peat, “the fact that we know we’re high

Greg Davis draws his other colt

Posted by Nickel Rover on February 23rd, 2010 under Basketball

Football: There is an informative interview on the ESPN Big 12 blog with Greg Davis where you can find a few nuggets that seem to point towards what I already expected from his offense in it's next form. We’re going to go back under center with the quarterback some more. We played the last two years almost exclusively out of the shotgun. We will continue to play a lot of the game from the shotgun, but

Texas Tech forward Darko Cohadarevic doesn’t just talk the talk — he walks the walk.

Tuesday night Tech faced Seton Hall in a first round NIT contest. With the game tied at 10, Seton Hall forward Herb Pope delivered two below-the-belt blows to Cohadarevic.

After Pope was ejected, Tech went on

Good team that took number 1 seeded Louisville to the wire in last year’s tournament. Start 3 seniors and two juniors, very athletic. Solid pass first point guard. Their leading scorer was player of the year in the conference.

Good club that plays multiple defenses.

I just took Baylor going to the Elite 8. It’s a crazy mixed up world we live in.

Is it just me, or does it pain anyone else to not be able to determine who is going to beat Duke early? It’s bound to happen, but who will it be?

By “we” I meant the Horns. Kevin, why should I take Siena over A&M?

colorado ag, Utah State is as athletic as Nebraska. You’ll be fine as long as they don’t go 16 for 31 from three.

Siena, on the other hand, is going to beat you like you stole something. Maybe not, but the Saints should win.

Great article Scipio. Also, thanks for the dime.

Looking at the Tournament futures market, Vegas is telling us what they think about Onuaku’s health. The Orangemen have the easiest region and road to the fianl four, yet they’re +700 to win it all, while UK and Kansas, teams with much tougher roads, are +250

My brackets are pretty much locked down except the South. Can’t get myself to take Baylor, and Duke doesn’t feel right. Nobody seems to be high on Nova. It’s all about the Big East and Big 12 this year.

It’s a crying shame we suck so bad. We are in a good

Scip, like a peaceful Indian in the 1800’s, I never trust a Mormon that can shoot. Utah State has me worried.

If we escape the first weekend, things get very interesting with a potential Sweet 16 match-up with Duke. Ugly up the game and guard like hell on the perimeter in front of a

Possibly. However, I’m telling you – the beauty of these intergame lines is that when you see that all-too-familiar big early game lead that you know will evaporate down the stretch as soon as the team starts regressing to their 3 point shooting mean, there’s some money to be made.

Anytime. How far do you think the Aggies go? A lot of people think Utah State is the most dangerous pure shooting team in the tournament.

Last year in Vegas, Friday morning, stumble to the line at 8:30 to make my bets, put $20 on a four-team parlay on the four 9:00 am games, nailed it! Three of the four games’ spread was determined in the final 0:30. Walked away with $220.

Jordan, all just wild, premature conjecture. I’d hedge that only a third of that 2013 list ever makes an NFL roster. It is picking which third that is the tough part.

    I have:

    Syracuse
    Kansas
    West Virginia
    Baylor

These will all likely change 3-4 times before tomorrow morning.

I don’t have as high an opinion of Ohio State as you do. Evan Turner is fantastic, but I don’t like their odds of taking down Georgetown and KU back-to-back.

Baylor scares me. They have no idea what
