Coach Akina is now faced with stopping the Aggie option and it should be interesting to see how he defends it. Most DC's completely scrap their foundation schemes and revert to teaching assignment techniques with a revamping of alignments in order to give their group an even opportunity for success against an attack that has almost died in most football

Defending Tech

The first thing I would gameplan is to take the WR Pearl Harbor screens away from them with an identified spy that bluffed rush and peeled down the line with any pulls. On third downs I would use one to both sides of the formation. The second must would be to have multiple options on eliminating the short crossing routes from the slot and RB. Defense – Next Three Weeks

You gotta love the next three weeks of UT football if you like defensive football. We get the opportunity to see how coach Akina plans to stop the option while defending a strong passing attack against the Cowboys in the first week, slow down the air show complete with circus acts against Texas Tech the second week, and finish with the shotgun option featuring a full grown rodeo bull against the Aggies. Linebackers & Blitzing

We have run the same blitz package for five straight games. The only change Akina has made is the number of times he calls his two pet designer moves. The Mike mug has become a regular bet when Bobino is in the game and the best that can be said is he stays out of everybody else's way while entertaining
