Getting it done when scoring opportunities arise

Posted by BRAGGonUT on October 28th, 2008 under Football

Do you remember when we struggled mightily when we got to Goal to Go situations a few years back? Well, no longer. In 8 games this year, Texas has had 24 FIRST AND GOAL situations (3 per game). We have scored 23 touchdowns (16 rushing and 7 passing) in 44 plays. That is an amazing 96% scoring percentage on less than 2 plays per trip. We are getting there and punching it

When Tony Barnhart types, I read

Posted by BRAGGonUT on October 27th, 2008 under Football

Mr. College Football, Tony Barnhart, said he thinks Fullmer is done at Tennessee. It’s hard to see Fulmer returning as Tennessee’s coach: Phillip Fulmer is an old offensive lineman which means he will work and fight until the last game is over. But what I saw Saturday night in Knoxville was a sense of resignation that Fulmer will not be able to get the program at Tennessee turned around. In case you’re keeping score at

Stats are for losers

Posted by BRAGGonUT on October 20th, 2008 under Football

"Stats are for losers," Muschamp said. "I like winning games." While I tend to agree with Muschamp on almost everything (like the the sun rising in the West and that the earth is flat), I do take exception with the stats part. I, too, like to win games. I like digging into the stats – see the college fantasy football obsession or playing rotisserie baseball when it required the Monday USA Today sports

Plenty of other names for Clemson

Posted by BRAGGonUT on October 14th, 2008 under Football

Now that Tommy Bowden has been fired mutually agreed to step down at Clemson, we can look at potential candidates. Muschamp's name will surface for every job, but I don't think this is the one. While traveling the internet, I found these guys as potentials (in my order of likelihood): Lane Kiffin - the first name in the hopper with Muschamp; he could start now and the AD has ties

Johnny Dingle (i.e. our defensive ends versus their offensive tackles) 3. Blitzing 4. Our offense In Texas/OU Analysis: Let’s Get It On, Scipio Tex boiled the game down

Texas-Mizzou game could be a national primetime telecast

Posted by BRAGGonUT on October 6th, 2008 under Football

The Big 12 announced their TV games for the October 18th weekend. ABC will wait until this Sunday to decide whether Texas-Mizzou is the 2:30 or 7 pm slot. Kansas-Oklahoma will get the other ABC slot. I'd guess the winner of the Red River Shootout will be the primetime telecast. If Texas wins, Austin will likely host another primetime #1 vs #2 regular season game. Nice. First things, first...the Dirt Burglars.
Darrell Scott was the biggest recruiting story Texas fans followed for many, many years. It came down to the last week of the recruiting season which is, by far, the exception and not the rule for past 10 years. Scott was not just a 5-star recruit, but a top 5 national recruit. And he was from California, which makes him different to recruiting junkies. I am guilty as charged. Five stars
