Texas Baseball: Team of the Decade
Baseball America chose their ‘All-2000s team’ and sent voting ballots to every Division 1 baseball coach (150 of which responded). Augie Garrido sent his votes on a cocktail napkin.
Texas was the team of the decade with 32.6% of the vote. Two national championships and two runners up in the decade. Not too shabby.
Garrido was runner up for coach of the decade to the dude from Oregon State by a single vote. You can make arguments for either. The Oregon State coach took a team that hadn’t been to the regionals in almost 20 years and won two national titles.
That’s the equivalent of Austin High winning state. Twice. With Huckleberry starting.
Kyle Russell was chosen as one of three starting outfielders, and his single season Texas home run record will not be broken for a long time, imo.
And finally Huston Street was overwhelmingly chosen as the reliever of the decade with 79.3% of the votes. It was so overwhelming that second place in the voting went to ‘Other Votes.’
The new decade of voting looks promising for Texas as well. They’re ranked number one in all four preseason baseball polls and I’m on record here.

Well deserved.
Home opener is against New Mexico with a three game stand starting Friday 2/19.
Stanford comes to town last week of Feb. I’ll be sitting in HenryJames’ seats but he doesn’t know it yet.

I think I would know it if you were sitting in my lap.

I forgot you were into pre-game pederasty.
Our team deserves better, imo.

How am I supposed to feel about Ruffin being moved to closer? I love his stuff as a starter, but how sure are we that he can dominate 3 to … 39 batters at a time?

The answer, my friend, is blowin’ in the zen.
The answer is blowin’ in the zen.

Ruffin will dominate as a closer. His mentality is perfect for the role.

Just imagine how many titles we would have won if we had bunted more!

Are Keyes, Rupp and Moldenhomer enough to carry our O?

On most days, yes.
We’ll need lefty Kevin Lusson to contribute as well, assuming he beats out Tant Shepherd at third base. Both guys can hit but this position could be a weak spot defensively. Whoever plays better D will likely get the job.
In 42 at bats last year, Lusson hit .310 with a .491 OBP.

Shepherd was playing at first on Saturday, and Keyes was back in right according to Jason Cole.

I wonder how much Walsh and Walla will play this year. They need to keep elder Lusson on the bench. I’ve hear they both can hit pretty well.
I think Moldy will have a great season this year, it’s just taken forever for him to get healthy.

Walla is rumoured to be starting in left.

Kyle Lusson has never demonstrated the slightest ability to contribute offensively. If everyone else is knocking the cover off the ball and he’s saving a run a game with his glove, then I can see playing him. Otherwise…
Here’s to baseball talk on BC! Don’t make me go back to Hornfans.
