Ed Orgeron to Vol Recruits: “Don’t Go To Class.”

Posted by srr50 on January 13th, 2010 under Football, Recruiting

Sources are reporting that former Tennessee recruiting coordinator Ed Orgeron took a little time off from packing for USC to encourage 9 mid-term recruits not to go to class today at Tennessee.

Once the recruits actually go to class, they fall under strict NCAA rules about transferring and would have to sit out a full year.

The arrogance of all involved is something to see. You have to assume that since USC is bringing back two of the key players (Orgeron and Kiffin) who were in the program during the time that is now at the heart of the current NCAA investigation that Kiffin and the Trojans must assume that the NCAA is gutless — or they just don’t care.

To be fair, at this point it isn’t really an assumption.

  2. nothing but class boys, nothing but class.

someone asked me which i thought was the worse person: kiffin or calipari?

i went with calipari because he ditched two separate schools in the midsts of actual scandals, but the blatant arrogance and prickishness of kiffin is mindblowing and infuriating

Go figure. Now lets snag some of these Tennesee commits starting with Delvin Jones!

  4. How is this different than what Tennessee recruits are normally told? Isn’t this an SEC selling point?

  5. Obligatory Orgeron ad:

  6. Maybe he meant “don’t let the guys we were paying to go to class for you, go to class”.

  7. I will just continue to enjoy watching all of this stuff explode while we continue to cheer for the best program in all of college sports.

  8. Jeez, The Orgeron really is a neanderthal isn’t he?

Orgeron is Farmer Fran from The Waterboy

  11. I assume we’ve all seen this, but for anyone who has not:

  12. Really calm yourselves people. There is nothing to see here at all. Move along.

Also, that Lloyd lake/Reggie Bush thing is just a bunch of smoke & mirrors created by the laughable US legal system. When will these people ever learn that compared to us the Bilderburg Group are a bunch of amatuers.

Go Trojans! Money does truly make the world go around!

  13. Fan-damned-tastic. This will be fun to watch.

USC really has some cajones – hiring Kiffin, et al, strikes me as a big middle finger to the NCAA, daring them to pursue enforcement.

  14. If I was a small directional state school – particularly one with a Native American mascot – I’d be worried.

  15. The complete lack of scruples from these guys is shocking…..almost to a Switzer like level. That is bad….very bad.

When it comes to college sports, education takes a back seat, unfortunately.

  17. Levander is right, The Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders are going to have their shit pushed in by the long dick of NCAA compliance for this.

  18. Wow. Just wow. If I were Tennessee I would go after these guys for every cent they were paid last year.

  19. Wow. Just wow. If I were Tennessee I would go after these guys for every cent they were paid last year.

you mean the coaches or the recruits???

  20. Muschamp’s name is *very* public in Tennessee discussions now…

  21. Class is for losers.

  22. “Muschamp’s name is *very* public in Tennessee discussions now…”

And a lot of Barkers prattle on about getting Jessica Alba in the sack. Doesn’t mean it’s going to happen.

  23. Parlin: if you win with class, you get a long-term contract at $5mm per year.

  24. Levander-the Barkers actively engage in “mind over matter”. They don’t “mind” what people think of them- because it doesn’t “matter”.

texastough……Really? Class, as in school. Not the manner in which one carries themself.

Can we put this Muschamp shit to rest so as not to jitterfy Jordan Hicks and Jackson Jeffcoat?

Props to Trips. I’d post it on his Babyblogforum, but I don’t have my super secret random ass code handy and it would take Clarence Gilyard from Die Hard to crack it. ‘Henry James Right’ has a nice ring to it. Or maybe ‘Baberized.’

  26. I appluad Orgeron’s honesty. It’s the University of Tennessee. And they’re football players. They’re not there to learn.

  27. Hugehardcock: subtlety is the beauty of art and great literature. I gave parlin credit for that and went with the meaning along the lines of “Kiffin and Orgeron could have class and stay at Tennessee, or at least not try to take Tennessee’s recruits with them, but they want to win so they’re headed west and taking as many troops as possible. Win at all costs like most coaches, players, and programs are doing these days, to beat the classy losers.” Then I tried to get rid of some more ennui by commenting on how we have the best possible situation – the classiest and also winningest coach/program. Maybe I attended too much class.

If USC skates through, then ANY smaller school who EVER faces sanctions tougher than may (not?) be leveled against USC should SUE the NCAA before acquiescing to any punishment. Is the NCAA going to come down on USC or not? ‘Not’ seems to be a safe bet now with Kiffin’s hire. If that’s the case, then it’s time member schools threw all pretense aside and started bidding for players. Who could outbid Texas?

It seems that the ‘collegiality’ of the NCAA community is showing serious cracks as it is, with crap like this Kiffin thing.

  29. I don’t know if anyone mentioned this, yet since I read this the first time, but when Mack Brown left UNC, he called every recruit to tell them that UNC was a great program and that he believed it was the best place for them to be at that time – Texas would be a rebuilding process and UNC was built. That was a classsy move and it has paid off for him big time.

I hope Kiffy sucks ass at USC.

  30. GESIS, its been 5 years since the Reggie Bush stuff at USC. If the NCAA does anything now it effects a bunch of people that were not there at the time. Makes no sense.

As for being classy, that’s fine, but I prefer winning to being classy. Winning is what I like best about Mack Brown. The classy stuff is just a bit of icing.

  31. According to this, just being on campus means you’re enrolled.

Hamilton met with the eight recruits who enrolled early and told them to “go to class.” He said that though he didn’t have an attendance sheet with him, since the recruits were on campus at 12:01 a.m. that means they are enrolled at Tennessee.

    Barnes’ three “strengths”:

    Defense, rebounding, recruiting.

This team just proved the first two are non-existent (out-rebounded by 25; fucking KIDDING me?) and the last one is over-hyped as well. Every ESPN basketball recruiting analyst who actually had Bradley ahead of Wall should be taken out back and executed Inglourious Basterds style.

a Good System will usually beat a talented team that does not play together and are thinking instead of playing basketball ,over a season the system wins more then they will give away.

Egg, that’s fine, but at what point do you blame Barnes? Seriously, man. You’ve thrown players under the bus left and right, but at a certain point, doesn’t the buck stop somewhere. I know you’re more of an NBA guy so it begins and ends with players there, but we need fucking

    Trips,

I hear ya. I’m frustrated as well. I guess I just don’t prescribe to such a black and white characterization of the situation. I do know that no matter what happened in the huddle, JCB made a dumb play. If Rick didn’t explain or remind him of the situation, then I

Pat, know I don’t, but I’ve had coaches draw up plays to free up the best foul shooter and then tell that guy they’d put their foot up his ass if they passed the ball. It’s funny, but as a fans of football we nitpick blitz pickup and shit like that. Shit that’s

  • Patrick Bateman commented on the blog post Texas Hoops vs. Wake Forest Open thread   5 hours, 1 minute ago

    Trips,

Do you know that he didn’t? JCB has made bad decision all season, why would this be any different. Barnes coached a shitastic game, but on the teams I was the best FT shooter, I never game up the ball unless it was an uncontested layup…..It’s not hard and it doesn’t take a

  • Trips Right commented on the blog post Texas Hoops vs. Wake Forest Open thread   5 hours, 2 minutes ago

mcpayne, yes, you don’t leave that shit to chance. You don’t let your guys break the huddle or dead ball not knowing precisely what’s expected from them. Barnes doesn’t get 2 mil for coaching PE where he’s hoping the right guy gets fouled.

  • uthookem commented on the blog post Texas Hoops vs. Wake Forest Open thread   5 hours, 3 minutes ago

mpayne, I’d agree with you if J’Covan had been playing all season and had been in situations to make that decision. Like, you know, against Baylor, when he played all of 3 fucking minutes thanks to rick.

So yes, it is rick’s fault.

  • Trips Right commented on the blog post Texas Hoops vs. Wake Forest Open thread   5 hours, 4 minutes ago

With 15 seconds left, out of a dead ball, most coaches would make it perfectly clear who they wanted to be fouled.

  • uthookem commented on the blog post Texas Hoops vs. Wake Forest Open thread   5 hours, 7 minutes ago

Stupid decisions by Brown are one of the reasons he sat on the bench for most of the season…lack of coaching maybe, or just a lack of basketball IQ?

Oh well, if Brown doesn’t go off in the 2nd half, we aren’t even playing in OT. Too bad he didn’t get much of a chance

  • Trips Right commented on the blog post Texas Hoops vs. Wake Forest Open thread   5 hours, 7 minutes ago

Pat, if you were making 2 million a year, would you leave that up to chance?

  • Patrick Bateman commented on the blog post Texas Hoops vs. Wake Forest Open thread   5 hours, 8 minutes ago

Actually, if your a PG and the best FT shooter on the team and played basketball your entire life, you’d pretty much know not to give up the ball if you had any brains…..Such a dumb play…..

  • D W commented on the blog post Texas Hoops vs. Wake Forest Open thread   5 hours, 9 minutes ago

Oh, and a stupid decision by Brown in giving up the ball to Johnson.

  • Trips Right commented on the blog post Texas Hoops vs. Wake Forest Open thread   5 hours, 9 minutes ago

Be nice if we’d coached our 90 percent foul shooter not to give the ball up.

In the second part I’ll do my best to give an outline of what exactly is wrong with the program, what we can do to fix it, and then what will probably happen TO fix it.

The line kills us, as it should have.

Fuck Rick Barnes, as this was the worst coaching I have seen in all my years of watching UT sports.

This saved us from Kentucky, but I feel bad for Damo, he was a hell of a Longhorn.

    Hook ‘em!

    And FUCK RICK BARNES!
