#2 in both final polls

Posted by Huckleberry on January 8th, 2010 under Football

Coaches’ Poll
AP Poll

Boise State finishes #4 behind Florida. Cincinnati is #8/#9. They didn’t look like a Top 10 team to me (for reference, we dropped from #3 to #12 after getting whooped by Miami in the Cotton Bowl).

Well deserved IMO. I don’t think we’re the only ones who would have loved to have seen a healthy Colt McCoy vs. Bama.

  2. You’re not. I was legitimately saddened watching it happen. Doesn’t happen too much during sports, let alone when I’m watching without a horse in the race.

  3. We should stop the “we coulda won with Colt” stuff. The DE nailed him. End of story. There were still plenty of chances to win without him. If Monroe catches the shovel pass. If Malcom catches a few balls. If Ulatoski doesn’t have a complete brain freeze on the sack. If Robinson plugs the hole on the 63 yard run. The bottom line is we didn’t do those things. Most of them we’ve done all season. Bama played a better football game, better luck next time. And hope the coaches go back to work with an eye toward fixing the 0-line.

  4. Good to see we’re getting respect.

  5. At first I was thinking that there were a lot of voters who had Alabama and Florida 1-2 — I guess we can check that out later, but now I am thinking that Boise was getting a lot of No. 2 votes, in both polls. For some reason, that surprises me.

  6. Not sure saying that people would like to have seen a healthy Colt versus Alabama is the same as saying we would have won with a healthy Colt.

What I would have like to have seen is for Gilbert to have gotten some meaningful snaps during the season. There were plenty of opportunities.

  7. The upside is that we get to call him “Colt 45″, forever. Works every time.

  8. #2 sits well with me. I was afraid we’d get jobbed and end up outside of the top 5 after all of the talk all season about how we defaulted into the title game. I was expecting to be behind Florida and Boise for sure, maybe tOSU and TCU and Oregon, too.

As far as the Colt injury, not going there. Injuries are part of the game and OU has an equally valid claim with Bradford’s injury as far as I’m concerned. Every team has an argument or two like that and it’s their responsibility to rise above it. We almost did.

Gilbert is a stud, he played well once he got his head into the game (and you can’t blame him for anything at this point), and now the Cotton Bowl/Lincoln/Lubbock will be much less intimidating after being thrown to the wolves in the biggest game of all last night. If there’s a silver lining to this, it’s that. Yeah, it’s also an excuse, but it’s a good one.

  9. Moral Victory Central calling in….

  10. Nice Pat…I appreciate your stance. Like the old saying, “if Ifs and Buts were candies and nuts, we’d all have a Merry Christmas,” but they’re not so let’s move on.

It was a nice season, and oddly enough, a little bit of an underachieving season even during the wins. Sure we achieved the goal of winning all our games up until the last, but we never reached our full potential in any one game.

It will be fun to watch us play with our hair on fire next year when the expectations are lower (much like we did last year when expectations were lower). I dread the later years of GG’s career when expectations get very high again, and we retreat to conservative offense.

For now, we soak up the glory of a season well played, and hope for the best…again.

Congrats to the team, and especially the seniors. They had a whale of a run.

  12. Moral Victory Central calling in….

Except that this is an actual moral victory as opposed to holding Kansas State to a late field goal to keep it within 50.

  13. GG grew up last night. I think he has a great future.

  14. This is no moral victory. Alabama played the better game and won, big deal.

I’m excited about next season, and about seeing GG continue to grow and mature.

Tough games next season will be at Lubbock, at Lincoln, and in Dallas, if we win two of three, we’ve got a great shot at another Big XII title.

And congrats to the seniors, whale of a job, indeed.

    Hook ‘em!

  15. Does anyone remember Colt vs Ohio State in 2006? That was Gilbert last night. And Colt was a reshirt. Gilbert was hanging out at the tast-e-freez last year this time.

  16. Aggies have Moral Victory Central on speed-dial; in fact, the call center’s in Collie Station.

Terrible break for Colt, but the team showed resiliency and these guys have won a Big XII title, a BCS bowl, 3 out 4 (yes?) vs blowU and a fuckload of games overall. Well done, fellas … hope the next stages of life are as successful for you as this was.

  17. Next October, when a reporter asks Gilbert how he’s handling the pressure of preparing for the OU game, he’s going to laugh and say, “Next question?”

  18. ag – fuck you and your shitty team. after all that transpired, i was tickled shitless to have the ball with three minutes left and a chance to win the national championship. our boys faced great adversity and never gave in. maybe y’all could learn something from this and it would help you stay within 50 of k fucking state. no, no it wouldn’t. aggy’s only joy comes from trying to beat UT or watching us lose and that’s precisely why you fucktards will never win anything.

  19. Ag you should be proud that schools with real football programs like Texas and TCU, and on a scale you should attempt to reach one day – Texas Tech and UH, are representing the state.
You also have an interesting lack of understanding, probably because you’ve never been there, the emotion of why we would want our starting quarterback to finish not only for our team but for himself as well.
We understand the only way you can attach to greatness is to suck off of us like those little fish that ride a whale’s ass.
If Colt could have finished he would have….he has worked his whole life for that one moment.
We have built our team to win the Big 12 and greatness looks forward…we must rebuild this team to be more physical and change the Big 12 by dominating with the run and pass mix.
In any event the game would have been much different if Colt would have played….however a great and deserving champion was crowned.

Was pretty disappointed with OSU’s shitburger last night though. I’ve never seen Anderson so bad…almost looked hurt. 5-2 first round isn’t bad though.

We really ought to get 4 team into the Sweet 16 though, with only Missouri having much of an excuse to not advance.

    Texoz,

As much as we need to find an identity on offense, we also need to address our defensive schemes. If JCB and JH are two big contributors and we play a 6′6″ guy at 4 and a foul prone freshman in the middle then we need to re-examine our principles on defense. We

There were lots of fireworks and exciting games in this region. Let’s start at the top.

Lehigh never had a realistic shot, but I’m sure they gained Kansas’ respect as a sixteen seed. They’re pretty athletic, especially inside. Again, I ask the tournament selection committee; this was the worst team in

Getting off a sinking ship. Bellotti is supposedly very much like Mack in his affinity for the media. I’ve always wondered about the assumption that Mack would be happy as the Texas AD when he could just go get a cushy analyst job. Mack clapping in studio would be great TV, no??

AAS wrote a dumbed down version of this subject today. Barnes says he’s bringing in another guard. Good, because I feel very confident in our depth in the front court. Alexei, white stiff #1, and white stiff #2 make me ooze with confidence especially behind a true freshman and undersized 4…….
