According to Collegiate Baseball.
No surprise. I picked them to win it all this year after last year’s CWS, and they’ll have the best pitching staff in college baseball on which to rely. It’s probably the best staff that Augie Garrido has had at Texas, and overall it’s probably the best staff at Texas since the mid ’80s. At least three potential Friday starters.
“We start with pitching, and we go at least eight deep with the staff this year,” said Garrido. “We have five pitchers who threw a substantial number of innings last season, including Cole Green, Chance Ruffin, Brandon Workman, Taylor Jungmann and Austin Dicharry. Plus, we have some very talented newcomers who have been impressive.”
Russell Moldenauer regained his swing at the CWS last year, and in two preseason games in October he hit three home runs. So he’s back in a big fucking way. He took some shit from people as he battled through injuries last year, but the Angels thought he was the best hitter in Texas when they drafted him out of high school. Newcomer Jonathan Walsh is supposed to be the real deal as well, and he might end up as the starting first baseman.
The Longhorns begin play February 19 vs New Mexico at The Disch.
Oh, and…
Garrido said that his offense again will be triggered by the bunt.
Ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha ha!

I was expecting a bama mud hole stomp article instead of this. Are we avoiding the issue?

Let’s just hope we can get Augie a cab during the off season.

I tend to agree with Augieball. But then I recall he thinks Billy Spiers should be in the hall of fame, and become conflicted.

The small ball record is something we should all cherish

Coloradoag, I am sure, realizes that there is a slight difference in being ranked #1 and having won it all before and being #1 and not knowing how to handle it.
I think LSU should have been the top pick, but I’ll take it.
I read the article yesterday elsewhere and knew that Huck’s head would explode. For me, I think bunting is very clutch.

This would hold true if there was a player on the Texas roster that had won it all before.
You guys will be good this year and will be in Omaha. I think preseason rankings are a bit of a joke – especially in baseball.

I’ll take the coach who has won the most games. The coach who has won the most world series titles, active today. Plus a team full of players who were one win away from a title as the next best thing. But other than that I guess you are right.

I remember Taylor Jungmann’s second game performance at the CWS last year, but I also remember his first game performance.

Basketball team ranked number two in the nation and undefeated. Football team ranked number two in the nation and playing for a Natty. Baseball team ranked number 1 in the nation.
goddamn it’s good to be the king.

Hook ‘em!
No offense, of course.

Football team had finished a 4-7 season four weeks previously.
Basketball team was 5-5 and unranked. They would finish with a losing record.
Baseball team had finished unranked the year before with a 29-22 record and a losing record in the Big 12. The season coming up in 1998 would finish with a losing overall record in addition to another losing record in conference play.
When the baseball season mercifully ended with the team being swept by Oklahoma, all three Longhorn major sports teams had finished their most recent season with a losing record.
The next school year? Ricky won the Heisman, we won the Cotton Bowl, basketball won the Big 12 regular season, and the baseball team went to the College World Series.

Incredible that most kids 15 or under don’t remember a time when UT had a losing record (football).

The signficance is you are on the early radar for a Top 8 National Seed (which means you host regional/super regional) I was surprised the Ags were rated low at #29 preseason; should be higher.
Collegiate Baseball is one of three major polls (Baseball America, USA Today) We have to replace the entire infield except Brandon Loy at SS. First base is a question. Keyes and Shepherd were the contenders during the fall.
