Charges Dropped Against DJ Monroe

Posted by Vasherized on December 18th, 2009 under Football

Happy Friday.

Driving While Intoxicated charges against Longhorn football player D.J. Monroe have been dropped. Monroe, a kick returner and running back, was arrested on November 15 in Hays County.

Monroe did get charged with obstruction of a passageway.

Monroe was suspended by Mack Brown immediately after the incident and missed the last three games, including the Big 12 championship game.

  1. obstruction of a passageway? he needs to teach the OL how to do that.

  2. We don’t have anyone else on offense like him. I hope he plays, a lot.

    But he probably won’t.

  3. Obstruction of a passageway, isn’t that the same as choking?

  4. His return is contingent upon shaving that goatee.

  5. Obstruction of a passageway sounds like cockblocking.

“Cockblocking”, the only blocking scheme our OL can pull off.

    Full circle.

  7. Does anyone know whether he’ll be reinstated before the bowl game? I’d love to have him back there with Goodwin returning kicks.

Also, anyone know whether there’s any chance that Scott gets any playing time, at least at special teams? My god, anybody could upgrade our special teams coverage.

Halliburton is reporting that Mack will meet with the family when he returns from a recruiting trip — and talk about Monroe be reinstated.

  9. Hell yes he will play. Monroe and Goodwin on KR.

  10. Shipley, if he’s healthy?

  11. Shipley has gone full retard on punt returns and decision-making on punt returns. Moreover, Monroe is a lot shiftier.

  12. I’m excited that Brown is on a recruiting trip.

  13. who’s faster monroe or goodwin.

  14. I wonder who Mack Brown is on a recruiting trip for.

  15. I think Goodwin is probably faster. Monroe might be shiftier though. Dude moves like on one I’ve seen in orange since Ramonce. Remember Ramonce running that crazy play out of the back of the end zone?? That was one of the most amazingly athletic things I’ve ever seen. Can’t remember who it was against because it’s Friday and I want to leave the office badly.

  16. should have said “no one”

Mack Brown is a recruiting trip

  18. Mack is making a recruiting trip around the state. He was in Houston yesterday to see Connor Wood, Connor is graduating early and Mack and Major came down to say hi and be supportive. Also, Mack dropped by St. Pius to see Greg Daniels. Probably hit a few more schools – I would think North Shore was on his list.

  19. That’s right, tree, I forgot about the early enrollees.

He comes by the school and has the player pick out a couple teachers that were influential in their academic career. Mack will talk with the teachers for a while and thank them for what they’ve done.

When Mack dropped by LT last year for Paden he pulled my brother’s (and my former) physics teacher out to talk (Mr. McHarg for any LT alumni who care). It’s a great thing to do to cement relationships with schools and to send the right message to the players about academics.

  20. Ghost,

Wasn’t that against Ohio St? It was f-ing amazing, whoever it was.

  21. It was aginst Ohio State at Ohio State! (Y’all should be ashamed.) Ramonce almost got tackled in the end zone. What an awesome game!

  22. The UT system King Air landed at Fort Worth-Meachem eight hours ago, FWIW…

  24. No kidding.

hoju — I am ashamed, but you’re right. Ohio State.

    ctex — it was incredible.

  25. I know for sure that Mack was in Cedar Hill today.

  26. We have a PROP plane? What is this the 70’s? UT should at least be rolling in a old Gulfstream or something. Somebody call the big boosters and order an upgrade.

  27. I’m an engineer for a large aircraft manufacturing company in the greater Seattle area…flightaware is like sex to me.

  28. bob, agree 100%…UT should be rockin’ at least a G3 or a Learjet with all the spare change they have laying around.

Going with a prop instead of a G3 is probably WHY they have a lot of spare change around.

That or Rachel Phelps has taken over as AD.

  31. Monroe was juuussst….a bit outside of the kicker’s reach.

“We have a PROP plane?” because jets can’t land at just any old recruit’s local airport.

  33. Ed Orgeron mocks our prop plane by parachuting from his recruiting chopper.

Even without a jumpsuit he is mistaken for Elvis.

  34. Upgrade a prop? no problem

Ramonce’s “brilliant” return at Ohio State only comes about because he was full retard, not knowing where he was and accidentally stepping out of the end zone. DJ’s decision making in breaking curfew and obstructing a passageway does not bode well for his future. I hope to God he pulls a Ramonce and scores touchdown in the championship game. But I pray he doesn’t get caught with a brick of mary jane in his backpack in the off season.

As for Shipley, he has made a few strange plays lately. However, everyone thinks he fumbled that catch against A&M. In fact, that ball landed on Kenny Vaccaro. Ship never touched it. I’d say he’s only half retard. He knows you never go full retard.

National Championship on the line I take Shipley as my punt returner hands down, no questions asked, and no apology offered.

  39. I’ll be blown away if both he and Goodwin are returning kicks together in the title game. That just isn’t how Brown rolls. Hope I am wrong.

It seems like the deck is stacked against ol’DJ ever developing consistency within the program. There’s the ongoing problem with grades, lying to the coaches and getting busted, and Greg Davis. Not a lot going for him there.

Agree CTJ. MB is just too conservative and will be after Goodwin’s muff in the CCG.

If you’re flying around Texas, a King Air is plenty. They are turbo props, not regular props. They get there almost as fast anywhere you go in Texas, can land on much shorter runways, and are roomier than most small jets.

i think mack needs to wheedle the defense dept into letting him have a v-22 tilt rotor. he could hover over the high school and then fastrope down into an inner courtyard, say, and boggle everybody’s mind. i mean, running a high quality program and just visiting doesn’t cut it any more. you have to have panache.

Good team that took number 1 seeded Louisville to the wire in last year’s tournament. Start 3 seniors and two juniors, very athletic. Solid pass first point guard. Their leading scorer was player of the year in the conference.

Good club that plays multiple defenses.

colorado ag, Utah State is as athletic as Nebraska. You’ll be fine as long as they don’t go 16 for 31 from three.

Siena, on the other hand, is going to beat you like you stole something. Maybe not, but the Saints should win.

Looking at the Tournament futures market, Vegas is telling us what they think about Onuaku’s health. The Orangemen have the easiest region and road to the fianl four, yet they’re +700 to win it all, while UK and Kansas, teams with much tougher roads, are +250

Possibly. However, I’m telling you – the beauty of these intergame lines is that when you see that all-too-familiar big early game lead that you know will evaporate down the stretch as soon as the team starts regressing to their 3 point shooting mean, there’s some money to be made.
