The former UT All-American and All-Pro defensive back is one of two leading candidates for the Head Coaching vacancy.
Gray is currently in his fourth season as the Redskins secondary-cornerbacks Also on staff – as the defensive quality control coach – is Arthur Smith, son of the FedEx founder and CEO. Fred Smith is a prominent Memphis booster who is also a minority owner in the Redskins. His youngest son, Cannon, is a quarterback for the Tiger football team. He is sitting out this year after transferring from Miami.
Larry Porter, a former Memphis running back is also in contention. He is the running backs coach/chief recruiter for Les Miles at LSU. Rivals has twice named him recruiter of the year.
Gray,a member of the University of Texas’s All-Time Team, was a two-time consensus All-America and two-time Southwest Conference Defensive Player of the Year as a safety at Texas in 1983 and ’84 and was a first-round draft pick of the Los Angeles Rams in 1985.
Gray spent a couple of years in the mid-90′s as the defensive backs coach at SMU.

Doesn’t sound like that good a situation. Memphis seems like a coaching graveyard.
