Classy comment Stacy. I only presume you are talking about the sexual misconduct scandal that has been hurting the Church and its members for far too many years. Yes, those people screwed up. But far be it for me to point out that there is just as high of a rate of pedophilia cases in protestant churches. How come no one talks about the molestation cases that have been brought up at Kanakuk camp?

The Catholic Church in its presence does have high standard of behavior, actually... single-sex dorms, visiting hours, and *gasp* the worst four letter word of them all... RULES! I know things like that probably melt your mind if you tried to think about them too hard... so just forego original thought and chirp out some degrading comment.

And here's the thing... the behavior of a few sick and twisted men does not equate acceptance. The fact that most of them were a part of leadership helps to create the facade of acceptance and the vitrol that already runs through the media's veins for the Church was only like dumping gasoline of the fire.

Comments like that only reveal the chip that you carry on your shoulder and do nothing to further and discussion. Your pathetic attempt at humor is nothing more than a classless act, trying to reduce this discussion to the lowest common denominator - your maturity.

My guess is you've probably never been to Notre Dame. You know nothing about the university other than you hate Rudy and you don't like the Catholic Church. If I started talking about Holy Cross and the priests that sacrifice their lives to serve at this university and have created such a fine institution, you would have no retort without getting online and googling your information.

"there is also the reoccurring theme Meyer’s kids at FLA have of questionable character – something ND priests, admin, and alum will not stand for"

Yes, we know about those Catholics and their high standards of behavior.

Goddammit I put you're instead of your. Football's the only way I'm getting admitted Notre Dame unless I want to fart around with Rudy & Jon Favreau (greasy version)

"Also, aside from the academic standards, there is also the reoccurring theme Meyer’s kids at FLA have of questionable character – something ND priests, admin, and alum will not stand for – in addition to his questionable handing of said situations (arrests, disputes, and the like) when players’ character came under scrutiny."

Yes, but the same things also were said before Gerry Faust brought his 97% graduation rates & mediocre brand of championship high school football to South Bend.

Same season losses to Navy & UConn and yet another .500 season could very well bring the same sideways glances and fake hernia coughing that accompanied admissions standards and transcripts review of the gangsta pride of Lou Holtz's recruiting efforts.

There's an NBC contract to be defended & the millions brought by that will far outweigh any sepia-toned memories leading to a strict adhering-to of said academic standards.

And let's face it, when you're biggest recruiting grab of the Charlie Tuna era shows up on signing day in South Bend pouring out of a stretch Humvee limo with all manner of northern Indian young slut & prostitute on his arms, it's probably time to admit that maybe they've already started looking the other way, but just made the mistake of picking a coach whose genius eludes him when he doesn't know what the other team is running anymore.

TTR - I take your point, and I agree that the issues run deeper. But how Meyer has chosen to respond is on him. It apparently works for now, but the lax hand will eventually bite him in the ass (that sounds kind of weird now that I see it typed out).

I think misgivings about Meyer's athletes at Florida are misplaced. It seems that ADs affect scholastic/character standards more than coaches do. At the end of the day, coaches remember who they work for. Cheating happens at the same schools because they have continuity in the AD,

First, keep Gruden out of the booth - he stinks.

I would love to see Stoops or Meyer go to ND, just to see them fail. Kelly actually scares me...if he can win at Cincy, he can win at ND.

The rumbling from most Irish faithful is that they don't want Meyer; the offer was once made and he rejected it. Also, aside from the academic standards, there is also the reoccurring theme Meyer's kids at FLA have of questionable character - something ND priests, admin, and alum will not stand for - in addition to his questionable handing of said situations (arrests, disputes, and the like) when players' character came under scrutiny.

To boot, I don't think he'd take it.

There are too many people out there on Irish message boards, and people who run with crowds that spend a lot of time under the building with the Golden Dome that speculate or have heard about Brian Kelly being the next man pegged for the job. In him, I think they see someone that is just fresh enough for them to still control (a lot of campus politics goes into the athletic department - a HUGE disability preventing the university from returning to football greatness... a status they will not reach again until they change this); you can't believe that if Meyer were brought to ND that he'd play by the Holy Cross priests' rules? So, they won't bring him, and he won't come until he is guaranteed to have things his way (or at least some concessions from university admissions and academic staff).

Personally, I don't know what I think. Part of me thinks Kelly could be the answer. That's also the same part of me that thought Weis would be the right answer - he looks and seems like he'd be good at ND and a good fit. One thing different with Kelly is that he has a proven track record at the NCAA level with his D-2 experience and also his remarkable accomplishments and a sketchy D-1 commuter school. Makes me wonder if some of the admins at ND see some similarities between Kelly and Holtz and are hoping that bringing Kelly in will recreate some of the magic that Holtz brough to the university - as well as national relevance and competing for national titles.

Hell... all I know are three things have to happen:
1) I've supported Weis all the way to the bitter end... but this 3 game losing streak is his pink slip. He's gotta go.
2) Holtz has to stop picking ND to win a national title - how laughable was that preseason prediction now. I hated it when he did it then, and now it just seems like a sick joke.
3) There can be NO discussion and NO possibility of Gruden coming to ND. I don't care if he is from South Bend and I certainly don't give a shit about ANYTHING he did in the NFL. Keep his ass in the booth.
