Jeff Fisher’s Press Conference

Posted by Doperbo on November 16th, 2009 under Football

Good afternoon. We’re obviously pleased with the win. We have a lot of work to do but we felt like we had a good game plan this week, good scheme, we had a good week of practice. They tried to do some things to limit our effectiveness in a few areas and we were able to overcome that, so the players are buying in, doing the little things we need to do to win games. Stringing three wins together at this point in our season is very positive for our football team. I thought we ran the ball well. We limited mistakes. We had converted, run back really, some key turnovers into points, so that was very positive. I’ll be happy to take questions.

Can you talk about the change in the team and what’s happened to bring it about? Winning three straight after going 0-6? What’s changed?

I can’t think of any big changes. Nothing really. We have some people back, like Cortland [Finnegan], that’s probably the biggest difference that helps us do some things in the secondary; so we’re more flexible back there. We have some key guys on defense who were injured that are healthy. That’s really all I can think of.

Having those players to start the season before losing 6 straight makes it seems like something else has changed- what’s different about the team the last three games?

Nothing. We’re doing the same things. We haven’t changed anything. We’re just executing better, taking care of assignments.

Do you think having Vince Young start has helped the team rebound? It seems to have sparked something. Bironas is nailing field goals again. Justin Gage is making circus catches. The running game has exploded with him in the backfield as a run threat.

I don’t really think you can pin it down to one thing, really. I don’t think you can say that. Maybe Gage is wearing lighter socks? Those little quarter sock things, like the gays wear. Did you think of that? Maybe the first 6 weeks of the season C.J. [Chris Johnson] had testicular cancer, and it’s just now resolving. Maybe Bironas was a body double. Things like that happen. There might be a lot of things behind this. You guys don’t know everything. I think really it’s hard to say.

You have to admit the trend favors the change at QB. After the public way ownership called for the change, now it seems to be the turning point of the season. You’re converting key third downs and have only one interception in three games, the whole offense seems to have found its stride. You have to think there is a correlation there.

Again, it’s tough to say. From my standpoint we’re the same team we were the first half of the season. We haven’t really changed anything. I don’t see a correlation there like you’re implying. People want to credit having a dynamic playmaker at QB with a history of winning football games, that’s OK, for me it’s hard to say that’s been the difference.

So you really don’t see anything different the last few weeks worth mentioning?

Preparation maybe, I think it might be a little better. My preparation has been better.

How so?

Different mustache oil. Great stuff. Smells like Hai Karate. Let’s see… I’ve been playing Kool Moe Dee albums in my car. Just the one album, I only have one. But it’s good. What What!? Ha ha. Good album. Oh and I bought a ferret. Little things like that. I really think it’s helped with the mental side. Preparation wise and all.

Thank you coach for your candid assessment of the situation.

Thank you.

  1. I really fail to see the humor here.

  2. Did his mustache ask him to buy the ferret so it could mate and make little pencil thin mustaches?

  3. i laughed

  4. I wonder if Fisher drops the “DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?!” line in Nashville bars like he did in Houston.

  5. The sad part is that if I didn’t read the byline, I would believe it 100%. He is such a jackass. I think he has wanted to get fired for 4 years now and Vince keeps fucking it up for him. Collins had the coffin nailed and Vince comes in with a hacksaw and pulls Fisher’s half dead ass out again. He’s thinking, just leave me alone and let me die already. Only one guy in the league that could have turned this piece of shit team around and Fisher still acts like it’s the defense or running game.

  6. I wonder how many more burnt orange jerseys will be in Houston this Sunday.

  7. Seems like ther right thread to ask.

Does anyone know how many of CJ’s yards and TDs have come off the option? I know 1 TD did last week. I also saw a long run the past week. I had to listen to the dumbass DJ on 1560 go nuts when a caller suggested that VY helped the running game.

Rather than discuss it in terms of facts, he played some rediculous ‘preacher’ tape and just started saying stupid shit in general.

  8. “I wonder how many more burnt orange jerseys will be in Houston this Sunday.”

Actually that’s the monday night game. Filling Reliant with orange #11’s would be a nice F-U to both franchises.

  9. I would like to sincerely apologize to the Buffalo Bills, their ownership and their fan base for giving the impression that I was flipping them off. Clearly, those gestures were intended for the gerbil-smuggling punk I hired to coach my team.

  10. orange #10’s would be pretty cool too

  11. Music City Miracles had a decent breakdown of a couple of plays. There’s another one out there that has two plays reviewed, but I couldn’t find it.

Anyone that claims Vince Young doesn’t help the running game is a fucking moron.

  12. Yes, let the spirit of James T. Kirk-endoll fill up Reliant Stadium Monday night!

  13. Actually I was flashing a Horns sign to some Texas friends down below, but as usual some fucking Sooners then flashed back the Horns Down sign and….

  14. Marshall Faulk talked about how Vince helps the running game yesterday on the NFL Network. He basically erases backside pursuit.

  15. TOR – While I would have loved for the Texans to grab VY, I understand the Mario pick. I’m not saying that’s the one I would have made, but I have no problem with it. Mario has been a great DE, Houston has needed (and still does to some extent) better players on the D-line, and typically the D wins games.

I’m hoping that Houston picks up Colt in the 2nd or 3rd and makes him the eventual future QB. Matt is doing a great job for the Texans, and that would give Colt a chance to learn and grow for a few years rather than just being thrown into the fire.

  16. Chris Johnson himself said that the biggest change between now and the beginning of the year was VY starting. He said that the defense has to decide to stop VY or CJ, but they can’t stop both. The players know it’s Vince, whether anyone else does or not.

  17. “orange #10’s”

    doh

A little strong, but still a good blog, Doperbo. I just know the Titans are 3-0 since I started wearing Vince’s jersey during games again. ;)

Vince is getting a lot of credit in Nashville now. CJ is still the Titans fans favorite player, but we all admit that CJ+VY = a dynamic duo that is hard to stop. On big thing is 3rd down conversions. In the first 6 games, the Titans converted only 36% of the time. In the last three games, they have converted 52% of the time, and a lot of that is Vince.

I can’t wait to see Vince and CJ get national attention on MNF next week.

I just hope there are enough Titans fans who get it that it’s no coincidence CJ is going off like he is now that VY is back in the game.

What’s crazy is that VY is still operating at maybe 65% of his capacity. If he truly gets his confidence and mojo back, if he gets to where he knows his team and coaching staff [minus Fisher] and city believe in him…that’s when it gets good.

You’re still looking at about 2nd half of sophomore season Vince.

Vince has his work cut out for him this week:

    1) Nationally televised prime-time game
    2) Revisiting all of the scrutiny and the events of the last year
    3) Against the team that passed him in the draft and still has a fanbase divided over it
    4) In his hometown
    5) Against a team with 2 weeks to prepare for him
    6) Playing to preserve their shot at a first-ever playoff berth

    Did I miss anything?

Who am I kidding? Vince will whip that ass.

    7) Against the franchise and owner who left town and betrayed the city.

Gonna be a lot of well-deserved hype and storyline next week.

  22. I think Doperbo just won the award for first entirely plausible Kool Moe Dee reference here at the Barking Carnival. Nice work. :)

  23. Bud Adams, classy individual that he is, flipping off Buffalo fan sunday:

  24. I did the quick number crunch for CJ with out and with VY. His YPC are up a little, but I don’t think it statistically significant. His TDs per game are up, and 2 that I know of are because of Vince (1 on the option last week and the other in the link provided by Huck above).

    ———Pre VY—-VY
    YPC——6.3—–6.6
    TD/G—–.33——2

  25. I’m hoping that Houston picks up Colt in the 2nd or 3rd and makes him the eventual future QB.

Wrong place to be for the Colt hating. Do you hope he gets syphillis, too?

I am rooting for the ‘86 Niners to take him.

  26. I threw together a few statistics for those that like to see the comparisons.

Young is operating efficiently right now.

  27. There was that early game where CJ had 1000 yards in a loss(obviously). That’ll screw up any stat comparison. Might have been the Texans actually.

  28. I think it was Kenny Britt wearing the gay socks since Gage is out with a strained vajayjay or broken back, one or the other. I can’t believe Fisher doesn’t know that.

    Nice work.

  29. General – What? Colt hating? Why do you think I’m Colt hating? Or are you being sarcastic?… I’m confused.

I’m a Texans fan. I honestly want him to play for the Texans. It makes it more enjoyable having Longhorns to pull for. Its great to have Studdard starting. I wish Okam would have panned out better. I was hoping Rak would end up the Texans 1st pick last year (although the long haired pussy from USC has been a beast though, as much as it pains me to say it).

I used to be a Dallas fan, but they lost sometime around 2000. I do try to watch them to see Roy though.

It’s a known fact that Fisher has been dating Rae Dawn Chong for three weeks now. We simply need more data before we can say whether she or Vince is the cause of the Titans’ turnaround.

  31. always enjoy a Hai Karate reference

  32. ut_bkc,

I find it hard to believe you would wish the Texans on Colt. But mostly that was sarcasm.

  33. As somebody I know once said about Spencer Pratt, I will repeat for Jeff Fisher:

    Doucheist Douchetastic Douchebag. Ever.

I’ve said before and I’ll say it again, the option will never work in the NFL.

BTW, I wonder what CJ is getting Vince for Christmas? I bet it’s a little nicer than a Starbucks giftcard.

Great work all year long. Love the passion. The fact that you kept writing these (even around the birth of a child), is fantastic, shows your commitment, and is a little freaky. :-)

I think you showed great restraint in this post. It would have been easier to “go off” on Barnes.
