    Westlake will do

  6. Uh, the UIL calls them Austin Westlake, they draw from Austin, and Westlake High School is located in the Austin extraterritorial jurisdiction limits.

Personally, I don’t consider them an Austin high school either, but them’s the breaks.

  7. I remember a pre-season game against Longview my freshman year (I played for Pine Tree, which is unfortunate enough to be in a district with Longview, Marshall, and Hallsville: Home of the Muckelroys). A 205 lb man with a goatee and tattoos threw my 130 lb ass into the air, and I turned over in time to see him catch a touchdown pass. Shortly thereafter, they really turned up the heat on us. They brought in a 6 foot 4 inch man shaped like a bowling ball who they hadn’t used before. He then proceeded to fall on our defensive tackles, which would’ve been less of a problem had my new friend from the wide receiving corps not been in the process of Donkey Konging the linebackers who were too dumb to flee.

    Good times….

  8. IP #463… at least we made the playoffs, and Area since we have a bye in 1st rd

  9. Lake Travis scored 37 pts in the first quarter tonight, put the Jv in and won 58-7

  10. Graham is too high, that school is always a letdown come playoff time

  12. My hometown has a 9.5% chance of winning . . . so that means there’s a chance!

Uh, the UIL calls them Austin Westlake,

Then the UIL is wrong. They’re two different school districts.

  15. Westlake isn’t a school district. I supposed you want them called Eanes Westlake.

Except Eanes isn’t a city and the UIL refers to pretty much every school by city. In cases where the school is in a school district that shares the name of a city they frequently use that district’s name even if the school is in a different city by physical location (e.g., Round Rock Westwood is actually located in Austin).

West Lake Hills Westlake? The school isn’t in West Lake Hills.
Rollingwood Westlake? The school isn’t in Rollingwood.
Westlake? There is no city or town called “Westlake” in the area.

Jesus H. Christ, people, I went to Austin High. Do you think I would call them “Austin Westlake” if there was a more sensical alternative? I thought I was the most pedantic asshole around here.

  16. I can’t fucking imagine how bad Premont must be. Claude lost all their talent.

  17. Jesus H. Christ, people, I went to Austin High.

and I lived in 78746 for 10 years.

Thanks for the lesson, though. ;-)

  18. You should take up the fight for the school listed as Austin Del Valle.

Asking this question sincerely and not to be a dick…

You say that UIL refers to every school by city. But you have all the Fort Bend schools (which is a county and a school district) as “Fort Bend Dulles” and “Fort Bend Clements”, etc.

Why wouldn’t they be listed as Sugar Land Dulles or Sugar Land Clements?

Again, not to be a dick, just interested in the methodology…

  20. Austin High sucks.

  21. The only schools ranked below Claude are the ones fielding non-English speaking teams.

  22. Hence the “pretty much” every school by city. The FB schools are an exception, but I just go with what the UIL uses to avoid having to make decisions. Plus it makes it easier to get scores from the intertubes because that’s how the sites I tend to use list them.

  23. Austin High -29 vs. Devine

  24. Score Prediction:

    Southlake Carroll 98
    Claude 0

This thing is awesome. Austin High is only favored by 80.

  25. Doesn’t Austin Westlake play in the same District with the 5A schools in Austin – i.e., Bowie, Crockett, Austin High, etc? I think McCallum and a couple of thers are now 4A.

  26. Pflugerville and Bastrop are also in the 5A District with the Austin schools.

Pflugerville Connally, a 4A school is actually located in Austin.

  27. Yes, they do.

ded – I’ve got that thing rigged not to show negative scores. The offense and defense ratings are so mismatched for some teams that negative point totals are predicted. The formula for Carroll vs. Claude yields a final of 98.6 to -39.9 if it’s not set to display 0 instead of negative results. Perhaps I should set that up to display the negative number as zero and then add half its absolute value to the winning team’s score. Basically there’s a predicted margin of 138.5 points for that game. Which probably isn’t unrealistic at all as Carroll’s freshman B team would still be scoring on dive plays near the end.

  28. Austin High 34
    Houston Strake Jesuit 16

    The analyzer definitely works.

  29. I think they run out of time before they can score 138. We have no answer for Jackson Richards.

  30. Lake Travis 46
    Austin Hi! 15

    The analyzer definitely works.

  31. matchup analyzer
    S.A. Reagan 22
    PFlugerville 18

    On the field tonight,

    Pflugerville 10
    S.A. Reagan 3
Ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha ha!

  32. Predicted: Port Lavaca Calhoun 36, Uvalde 12

Actual: Port Lavaca Calhoun 38, Uvalde 3

Never understood Austin Westlake term. Its Austin High, Lake Travis. Not Austin Austin High, or Lake Travis Lake Travis? UIL calls it Tyler John Tyler, so it doesnt make sense in general. If we have to put a city with Westlake, maybe Straford Wesltake

lawdog – on the topic of regression, this crew can’t compare with the senior seasons Thomas and Atchley put up. Something ain’t right in this scenario. Mason topped out his sophomore year and Pittman last year.

Wangmene is ‘Manos de Piedra’ redux, so that was really never going to work out.

This would probably go a bit better if you read it in your Bobby Knight voice and it had two decades worth of goodwill built up from its gratuitous appearance on a popular late night television show. But oh well.

    1) Interior Worries. As in the Bears shouldn’t have any defensively

Today reminded me why I love this tournament so much. A good friend of mine mentioned to me that college basketball is the great equalizer of all athletic endeavors. At least of the sports we care about. He’s right.

For instance, you can have a 40 inch vertical, be Iverson quick,

    Patrick,

Unless you’re completely retarded, you know precisely what I meant. The closest any Big 12 team has gotten to winning the infamous Fuller Cup is the 2007 Texas squad. I can’t remember a team being that horribly undisciplined as a whole aside from the insane OU teams of the 80’s. That’s not

I suppose anyone could be your “favorite Longhorn basketball player” but Ford did more than just about anyone…although Durant is clearly better. Ford’s supporting cast was better than Durant’s in his sophomore year. Durant’s had more talent (Augustin, James, Abrams) but Ford’s was more developed (Boddicker, Ivey, Mouton, Thomas) and had worked with him for

This notion of Hamilton as being a disaster area on defense is all a bit much. He rebounds extremely well which, if it wasn’t obvious, is extremely important in this game since it secures possession of the basketball. Winning in basketball is achieved through the scoring of baskets and it’s necessary to possess the basketball

I posted earlier about how Collins’ effort just crippled Kansas today, but what amazed me the most was his complete inability to stay in front of his man on defense. UNI got a LOT of good looks out of penetration/pass after one of UNI’s modestly gifted athletes blew right by Sherron. The best

At least it’s shaping up that way if Sunday delivers.

As disappointed as I was in last year’s opening weekend of March Madness, this one is exceeding all expectations. Putting aside the fact that my bracket now resembles Kabul after the Taliban rolled through in ‘96 – a map of ordered failure –
