This weekend we will run for 200 yards and on Monday all we’ll hear about is how the running game is fantastic and has been all year. Then they’ll take the newly skewed avg’s and throw those at us.

Numbers only matter when they’re on the coaches’ side. when they don’t say the right things, they’re irrelevant.

Also, every time Davis opens his mouth he says things that would never, ever come out of Muschamp’s mouth. Hey, Greg, we’re still “working on the run game”?? Seriously, try to imagine Muschamp failing so badly in an area so consistently. And then just throwing up his hands and saying “well, shit, must be everyone’s fault!”.

I’m reminded of the movie “Gallipoli”, when the British commander, on a ship miles from the battle, is told that the Australian troops’ first wave were all mowed down by the Turkish machine guns within 10 yards of leaving their trenches. An Australian officer gently suggests that an alternate strategy might be a good idea. The British commander decides that his battle plan is not the problem, and that the Australian troops’ personal courage is the problem. He orders two more waves of troop charges into the machine guns…with predictable results. The last wave didn’t even bother to fix their bayonets (they knew they wouldn’t need them), and instead used them to hold goodbye messages to their loved ones in the trench walls.

That’s Davis’ analytical approach to our running game. The players have to try harder and execute better.
