We talked about the upset of the decade in this post, but I watched some other great basketball today I’d like to comment on.
For me, the theme of the day was well-played basketball. I’m not only talking about what Northern Iowa did, I’m talking about the other seven games being really well

Today reminded me why I love this tournament so much. A good friend of mine mentioned to me that college basketball is the great equalizer of all athletic endeavors. At least of the sports we care about. He’s right.
For instance, you can have a 40 inch vertical, be Iverson quick,

Patrick,
Unless you’re completely retarded, you know precisely what I meant. The closest any Big 12 team has gotten to winning the infamous Fuller Cup is the 2007 Texas squad. I can’t remember a team being that horribly undisciplined as a whole aside from the insane OU teams of the 80’s. That’s not

I suppose anyone could be your “favorite Longhorn basketball player” but Ford did more than just about anyone…although Durant is clearly better. Ford’s supporting cast was better than Durant’s in his sophomore year. Durant’s had more talent (Augustin, James, Abrams) but Ford’s was more developed (Boddicker, Ivey, Mouton, Thomas) and had worked with him for

This notion of Hamilton as being a disaster area on defense is all a bit much. He rebounds extremely well which, if it wasn’t obvious, is extremely important in this game since it secures possession of the basketball. Winning in basketball is achieved through the scoring of baskets and it’s necessary to possess the basketball

I posted earlier about how Collins’ effort just crippled Kansas today, but what amazed me the most was his complete inability to stay in front of his man on defense. UNI got a LOT of good looks out of penetration/pass after one of UNI’s modestly gifted athletes blew right by Sherron. The best

As disappointed as I was in last year’s opening weekend of March Madness, this one is exceeding all expectations. Putting aside the fact that my bracket now resembles Kabul after the Taliban rolled through in ‘96 – a map of ordered failure –

When I lived in the bay area and Harbaugh took the Stanford job, they all knew he would be gone within five years; either he would suck and be replaced or move on to greener pastures.
I’d move tOSU up simply because they look like the best team in the Big 10, and maybe Tressel will let “Pryor be Pryor” for a few games.
I’d also move LSU to #6. They aren’t that great, but neither is anyone else in the country…except for us when GDavis leaves the box to take shit.

LSU has just as much if not more talent than anyone in the country. Miles is a joke of a coach. He has yet to get through a year with less than 2 losses.
Fences will have to be mended, but Harbaugh is a Michigan man.
Andrew Luck is something else. Did Texas recruit that kid?

Nordberg,
He was the top ranked QB in the state 2 years ago and one of the top overall prospects. My question is, did Texas even bother to recruit him or did he commit to Stanford early in the process because that’s where he wanted to go or Texas showed no interest?
Regardless, the kid has a strong arm and great touch.

Even though I’m a diehard GT man, I agree that as far as power goes, LSU should probably be ranked ahead of GT. At least until we figure a way not to lose to them in teh Chicken Bowl in our own back freakin yard!
Besides, we could probably move the ball on anyone in the country, but we make mediocre quarterback look like Heisman contenders with our “Waffle House” defensive backfield. Not that anyone but Morgan on our DL is playing all that great either. Do you have a player with concussion problems, sore shoulder, ankle problems? No problem, play him at QB against GT – its the safest place for him in the whole stadium. We get no pressure on the QB hardly ever. And yes, Scipio, we have tried shouting sarcasm, and profanity laced familial refrences as our LBs and DEs are skewered on another OL’s blocks ( as you put it) it doesn’t seem to affect their throwing motion much. In fact, we had to stop because it was pissing them off.

[...] Good luck ranking anyone past #5. The transitive property is pretty useless at this stage and delineating 2-3 loss teams vs 0-1 loss teams who haven’t played anyone isn’t easy for any voter who isn’t just mailing it in. …. Well, things in college football are beginning to shake out a little earlier than usual, aren’t they? I mean, most years we have to wait until the last week or two of the season to really know who the best 3 or 4 teams in the country truly are. …This Post [...]
