UCF May Be Shoeless Saturday

Posted by srr50 on November 5th, 2009 under Basketball, Football

When the Central Florida Golden Knights land in Austin for their Saturday contest with Texas, they no doubt will swing by Academy Sporting Goods to pick up some cleats.

That’s because Adidas has discontinued its shoe and apparel contract with the Knights since Michael Jordan’s son won’t wear their shoes.

Marcus Jordan, a freshman on the Golden Knights basketball team, wore a pair of his dad’s Air Jordans in an exhibition game this week. He says he will only wear the Air Jordans since they have a special meaning to his family.

Marcus Jordan says he will wear all Central Florida apparel with the Adidas logo — just not the shoes.

Adidas reacted quickly after the exhibition game, releasing this statement.

“The University of Central Florida has chosen not to deliver on their contractual commitment to adidas,” adidas spokeswoman Andrea Corso wrote in an e-mail to The Associated Press. “As a result we have chosen not to continue our relationship with them moving forward.”

Come to think of it, Central Florida can probably skip going by Academy. Phil Knight, never one to turn down an opportunity for publicity, has probably already made a call to the University.

Helicopters will be involved at some point.

  2. Wow…big opportunity for Nike to look good here.

  3. You failed to close your italics tag I think.

  4. Is he better than Jeffery?

  5. I see the acorn didn’t fall far from the tree.

  6. Yes he’s the talented brother.

  7. Reminds me of my Freshman yr at a DIII program. Adidas was our cleat “sponsor” and some “rep” had us all use his new technology. We sat down after practice one day to have our feet measured for this new foot sizing technology that was built into his/ Adidas’ video camera. We had to sit on the ground and raise each foot separately up to the camera and hold it there for 5-10 seconds each. 2 weeks passed and we still hadn’t received our cleats for season. Coach called Adidas and they told us they had received several calls about this guy from other programs. He had no affiliation with Adidas other than his foot fetish. Most violated I’ve ever felt.

    That is extremely f’ed up.

Have you searched the interwebs for a DVD?

Although I guess you should have put a tramp stamp on your ankles to be able to prove any royalties, no?

  10. The thought of O’Leary staggering around drunk and barefoot on the sideline with every capillary stressed to Defcon 1 is making me want a Guiness.

  11. The contract was up at the end of the year anyway.

If the Jordan kid is on a scholie, it’s a douche move on his part.

If he’s not then why the hell is he going to college in Orlando? UNC has Larry Drew’s and Terry Davis’s kid on the team (although to be fair both can play); I’m certain they could make room for a certain someone’s whelp as a walk-on.

Good work, srr. You’ve attracted the attention of a Dutch apparel spam site with this post.

BC heeft wereldwijd gegaan, vrouwelijke honden!

  14. Apparently, the kid brought this issue up during his recruitment and UCF agreed to let him wear Jordans. So the team player attack may not be apropos.

Last week I asked Sailor Ripley and friends to come over and share some of their knowledge in our corner of the internet. As you can tell, I didn’t have the money to ship the 6 cases of Old English 800 to Fan Take world headquarters that they demanded so we’re stuck with links.

Seems like grounds for getting kicked the f of the team. Burglary? What would Stoops have done? What would Tom Osborne have done?

    Interesting, NDS.

What would Stoops have done? What would Tom Osborne have done? Pretty sure what Mack would do.

He needs help with the X and 0’s of offense and needs to be more open to zone principles if he doesn’t have the perimeter personnel to play man2man.

All the rest of the stuff will take care of itself with wins. I’m watching the Big12 championship right now and no one’s saying Frank Martin

I could not agree more about the subject. You have to make the pass go somewhere else than the offense wants. If you can’t stop that, you have to change the angle of the pass. Anything to throw them off.

I said after Laettner’s shot and pretty much ever since, that guarding the inbounder should be

No worries whatsoever. Teams like kansas, duke, WVU, and Cuse have all struggled in the conference tourney. I think the close win is actually going to help OSU.

UH: First four-game win streak of the season. The only other three-game win streak was in December. Between the two, 10-13.

Culminating in a first-round loss to Georgia in the SEC tournament, Arkansas basketball in 2009-10 was so disappointing that I have trouble even writing this article and re-living the season. But let us try to find a little closure.
The reasons given by this coaching staff to have hope for the future continue to be unimpressive.

It’s the time of year when we see a lot of “state of the program” articles. The off season is a natural time to reflect; it’s also a time when there’s nothing really going on so we turn to big picture fluffery to fake like we’re busy.
