   Here’s something else for Jeff Fisher to consider. Wide receivers should be capable of catching a pass occasionally. Perhaps you should take that in to account before drafting or signing them in the future.

   One day I want it explained to me why the Titans took Vince #3 overall and attempted to plug him into that offense. I thought it was understood that any team that drafted Vince would have to completely overhaul their offensive system, as he’s not exactly Tom Brady or Peyton Manning.

   Between the WRs and the overall scheme, it’s a bit like asking a hobbled thoroughbred to run. I’m not too optimistic about Vince’s chances.

   I don’t see much upside for Vince in this decision. Fisher’s team has completely quit on him (see Patriots game for reference) and their season and his future are in shambles. I mean you don’t tell your coach publicly who to start unless you’re Dan Snyder, Jerry Jones or Al Davis…well, and now Bud Adams. Fisher is gone based on this, either of his own choosing or Adams’, and Vince is being thrown into a situation that is a QB’s worse nightmare. I was hoping they’d leave him on the bench, and either trade him or find a coach who wants him around, which Jeff never has.

   This is gonna just get uglier, IMO, which I hope is wrong. I just hope he doesn’t get injured.

   Therein lies the opportunity for VY to show his leadership. As freaky physically as he is, leadership may be his best attribute. It will show something if the Titans start coming to play.

   I hope he makes the most of this opportunity, but I too am not that optimistic. One guy can carry a team in CFB but not the NFL.

    The Tennessee decision-making on this whole thing the last few years is on a par with the college-version Tennessee’s decision-making on end-of-game clock and situation management this last weekend.

    That might change now that the team is 0-6. Not saying they will start winning regularly even if it happens, but I’d love to see the team at least respond to him. Thats when he’s at his best.

    All of that being said, VY is still VY. For the brief period when they let him be who he is he only led the team to the playoffs. Maybe they’ll still stifle him — but maybe he’ll stifle Fisher and turn the team around. VY CAN play in the NFL, it’s just a matter of getting in the right system. 2-back sets with LenDale White and Chris Johnson can provide VY with the right set-up, it’s just a matter of Fisher letting him run the ball.

    Leadership isn’t about leading when things are going good. Leadership is how you lead when things aren’t going your way. Vince has usually had it go his way. Rarely has it not gone his way (on the field, before the pros). So I agree, Vince maybe done. Vince looked very average in preseason in his limited opportunities. For Vince to succeed there needs to be a great awakening (both with a coach and with Vince).
    I love the quote by Jerry Glanville:
    What does NFL stand for: Not For Long – Jerry said it to a ref who made a questionable call in Jerry’s eyes. I bet he told his players that a time or two. Well Vince Young is about to be NFL if things don’t change.

    Doesn’t take away what he did for the Horns.
    Still one of the most dominant college players ever. Close to as unstoppable as any player I have ever seen.

    I’d like to see Vince do well, and if they put him in there, nobody will be pulling harder for him than I will.

    That stated, even if he was willing, Fisher isn’t going to change his offense in almost mid-season (only an offensive genius on the magnitude of Greg Davis can do that—insert smily face here— and Fisher wouldn’t know good offense if it bit him on the dick). Also, he can’t shit a good WR, so Vince, like Collins won’t have anybody to throw to.

    Fisher knows he’s gone, and his players know it. He has been publicly neutered by his Owner. Most NFL coaches have massive egos, even the great ones. Fisher never wanted Vince to begin with. It was clear from his PC yesterday that he had no intention of playing Vince, and he will only do it now because his Owner has publicly ordered him to. Fisher learned at the feet of Buddy Ryan, who once tried to cold cock an OC because he didn’t like his play selection…on the fucking sideline during a game! My guess is you couldn’t measure the resentment he feels right now with a thousand mile telescope. In a way, I don’t blame him…Adams shouldn’t have gone public with this, but then he isn’t exactly a Rhodes Scholar either.

    Look how long it took Tom Brady, one of the all-time greats, to get his true rythm back after a long layoff, in an offense tailor made for him, with a coach who believes in him and the entire preseason taking snaps as the starter in practice. Vince has seen virtually no real game action for a year, guys. Yeah, I hear all the stuff about how the tough get going, etc., but this is a horrible situation and it’s just gonna get uglier. If he succeeds, it’ll be a miracle (albeit not his first). If he fails, a more likely scenario IMO, he will be unfairly branded, perhaps for the rest of his career, as a poor QB in a league known for that kind of shit from the front offices. This is some bad Mojo, boys and girls.

    God, I hope I’m wrong.

    What kind of different offense would work for Vince? There isn’t that much variety in the NFL… either a QB can pass from the pocket, or he probably won’t last. Even the great rushing QBs of recent NFL history – Steve Young, Randall Cunningham, McNair – were great passers to begin with. With what NFL team and/or offense would Vince thrive?

    I think for VY to be effective you have to run an offense that moves the pocket around. He would kill in the offense Hasselbeck runs in Seattle, for example. VY out of the pocker — or even moving right or left in the pocket, breaks down coverage with his legs because someon has to spy or cheat. What the Titans do takes away what he is good at.

    That he be allowed to play for a Head Coach who wants him.

    That is all. And it would be all that was needed.

    Jeff Fisher has possibly the most overinflated reputation of any Head Coach ever. Besides lasting 15 years for the cheapest owner in the NFL, what has he done to warrant all the “Jeff Fisher will have 20 NFL jobs waiting for him when he leaves Tennessee” talk?

    Not disputing that there will be a long line of teams willing to hire him in the retread league, but what’s on his resume? A flukish Super Bowl and what else?

    Seattle is where I’ve secretly been hoping he’ll end up.

    Jim Mora was Vick’s coach for Vick’s best years and would likely be most willing among NFL Head Coaching brethren to unleash Vince to do what he does best.

    Good to great receivers with Housh and Burleson.

    I don’t know too much about their offensive line, but out of the situations out there, Seattle has looked to me the most appealing IF–and only if–Mora wants Vince. That’s the most important thing.

    Hasselbeck can’t have too much longer left, and Seneca Wallace certainly isn’t the answer.
