Saturday Open Thread – Richt In Trouble

I’ll set up a separate Texas thread later on.
Tennessee – 45, Georgia – 19. Vol QB Crompton – who is terrible – goes off for 300+ and Tennessee outgains Georgia 2-1. That smell of singed evangelist is Mark Richt officially on the hot seat. Georgia is now 3-3 and they’re looking 6-6 or 7-5 squarely in the face. I guess the Georgia fans who whined over here for two years may want to reconsider the idea that Richt is a Top 5 coach. Expect a postseason coordinator shuffle as Richt fights to right the ship.
Arkansas blew the doors off of Auburn. They’re starting to look like the team I thought they’d be in the preseason. If they go 8-4 against their brutal schedule, they’re a top 20 team. I love a Petrino offense.
A&M and OSU are in a shootout. 36-31, OSU right now. The Aggies can’t play defense once you adjust to their pressure packages and Von Miller disappears, they’re terrible in the secondary, and their OL is putrid in protection. This team is composed entirely of cake with no steak. Some fun skill players though.
Zac Robinson has been murdering A&M’s secondary with an anonymous receiving corps, but OSU’s defense is Charmin soft. That big Georgia win is taking on a completely different context.
KU struggled hard with ISU, but Reesing has gone off. 442 yards passing right now. Disturbing for KU is the fact that ISU is going to break 500 yards of total offense. ISU had the ball and a chance to win in KU territory late. Amazing. Nebraska fans have to be cackling right now.
OU-Baylor scoreless early….but Baylor outgaining OU and Bradford was 0-2 on his first series.

I really like Cal today.
ATM and Cornell look too good to be true and the public is all over both of them.
I gotta believe that Izzo beats Maryland today, I haven’t been impressed with the Terps this year. I am surprised that they are favored.

I think your overall point is a good one. Barnes is a “system” guy especially defensively, which plays into how he overall plays the game. What was interesting was that it took OU four downs to punch it in. Bradford’s rusty, and the receivers can’t catch it anyway. The OL isn’t doing anything.

Even if UGA goes 5-7 this season, I don’t see them pulling the plug on Richt quite yet, without giving him one more season to make changes and right the ship. They lost the #1 and #12 overall draft picks in Stafford and Moreno this year, plus he seems to have a fair amount of goodwill built up with the Georgia fanbase (which he’s clearly having to draw on heavily this year). Like Scipio said, look for a coordinator to go down as the sacrificial lamb this year to placate the natives.
So, using that line of thinking 2011 is the year we’d potentially have to worry about Georgia and Muschamp. And I believe Muschamp would take that job without even thinking if Mack weren’t ready to hang it up right then and there. You can put me in the camp of those who are somewhat skeptical that: 1) Mack will be ready to step down after next year, and, because of that, 2) Muschamp will ever be the head coach at Texas. Maybe some people know something I don’t and will call me an idiot, but that’s how it looks from where I sit.

My opinion is that Muschamp is never given that raise or that “title” (unofficial as it might be) if Mack’s departure were not on the horizon.
I supposed it COULD have been a play to lock him up for this year, which figured to be a year that we could make a run at the title. However, that would be fairly disingenuous by DeLoss and Mack, which is not in line with their character or moral code.
My 2 cents.
OU continues to look very mortal to me. 14-7 lead at the half.

Wow. Just saw the highlights from O’ Miss and Bama. Snead has had a rough season thus far.
Bradford settled in nicely and looked dangerous over the middle. He also looked like a young Jim Plunkett in the press conference.
The Vietnam Razorbacks drop 40 on the Tigers. Petrino is going to go down in history as a legendary pig.
