Jermaine Gresham is going pro

Bob Stoops said today in his weekly press conference that Gresham will finally skip his junior year and enter the NFL draft.
Jermaine! Dude! You could redshirt and spend another year in Norman. Get that much closer to your multidisciplinary studies degree.

I know exactly what you are talking about. Pitiful defense. We open the second half giving up about 4 easy buckets on run-outs. Damion shoots a three, Mason watches and does not get back, easy bucket. Lucas gets beat down court and gives a way a soft foul for a 3 point -

Taylor, I can already tell you that . Stoops has made it clear that unless a player is a guaranteed top 15 draft pick, he should come back. Stoops didn’t follow that rule with Bradford. Bradford was advised to return, but that’s not bad advice for a QB under the circumstances. QB’s with only two years of college experience have a very low success rate in the NFL, and the uncapped rookie salary/draft agreement will still be in place this year. I’ve got a post in the works at Boomer and Sooner on the issue of advising underclassmen to declare and OU’s history with it.
But then Gerald McCoy stayed, too. Anyone who was paying attention knew this was going to happen. McCoy is a true blue Sooner who goes to damn near every athletic event whether it be men’s basketball or women’s soccer. McCoy is a vocal team leader, and a heck of a charismatic guy. Once McCoy knew he and Bradford were both staying, it was a matter of them selling Gresham and Trent Williams on coming back for simple self-preservation.

I would have loved to have seen Bradford go pro. That said, if his desire was to actually have a good NFL career, and not just maximize guaranteed earnings, I can see why he returned. Look at Matt Ryan. He lost money in returning, but is performing well enough (no way to know how much that extra year helped his development, but it didn’t hurt) that he’s not complaining now about dropping in the draft.
VY was different. If he returned for a senior year, he would have dropped in the draft (the scouts would have had an extra year to note his accuracy issues), and this was a guy who needed to get the maximum signing bonus, given his background and the speculative nature of his career as a QB.
TJ Ford also needed to leave when he did. All staying another year would have accomplished was giving the NBA scouts more time to notice that he wasn’t growing and his jump shot was taking a while to develop. Given another year in school, he would have dropped in the draft despite becoming a better player.
What does Bradford need to do? He probably needs to watch OU play Miami. If the OU OL struggles, the smart percentage move is for him to sit this year out.

I loved Bradford coming back and I’m a fan of a Red team from the north. I loved him coming back because I love college football. I don’t know why everyone gets their panties in a bunch about these guys not getting rich immediately- God forbid they don’t get their millions and have to work a corporate job like me.
It’s good for the game. Probably won’t be good for Nebraska Football, but so be it.

Taylor, I’ll go one further. With Gresham out, I would tell Bradford to pack it in regardless of OL play. Don’t get me wrong, he needs to get used to playing with no significant protection from his OL, since he’ll undoubtedly be drafted high by a team with a swiss cheese OL. I just think it’s better if he learns that lesson while being paid a half million dollars every month.
