There were lots of surprises in this region and a near miss or two that could have really turned this bracket upside down. But after the dust settled, seeds 1 through 4 remain alive…for now anyway.

Prescient comment, Doc.
I think we learned today that no team is really a mirror image of Missouri, even if Clemson is about as close as it gets. Unless you have significantly better/more talented athletes, if you try to run with the Tigers, you will lose. This team is so much fun to watch in games

Travis Ford spent the 2nd half channeling his inner Rick Barnes — lot’s of standing around on offense while one player tries to generate something off a ball screen — then taking a forced shot.
So the Big 12 goes 5-2 in Round One.

advertisers think they will probably get some deals for the additional 32 games that would be added. The feeling is that an ESPN would disount rates somewhat, since they already have a dual revenue stream — advertising dollars and subscription fees.
It’s all about content for ESPN — even mediocre content.

Dave Christensen brought Daniel, Maclin, Coffman et al to Austin last year and put the first three points up on the last play of the first half. I don’t expect Orlando Arnold, David Leonard and Austyn Carta-Samuels to fare much better, even with 33,000 rabid fans packing Jonah Stadium. I love DC for what he accomplished at Mizzou, but he’s probably going to struggle when his spread QB completes less than 50% of his passes. Against Weber St. And is named Austyn. Too bad McCoy isn’t named Laramyie. That would be a nifty Lincoln/Kennedy Kennedy/Lincoln type coincidence. Alas.

The performance by Chiles is both surprising and encouraging.
If Kheeston is good (does not have to be great) this year that is a huge bonus.
I made my peace with the concept of UT using a flex TE rather than an attached TE a couple of weeks ago. There is no bigger fan of power football than I but the reality is that GD is not a power football guy these days. If something is inevitable, you might as well enjoy it. The flex TE actually has a lot of the advantages of a regular TE. Buckner is a big guy who can be expected to block a blitzing LB or chip block a DE. Because of his speed/agility, Buckner will probably block an LB in space on a running play better than a traditional TE. When you play a flex TE, the opposition defense is more likely to spin down an LB to DE so Buckner can probably even block that LB playing DE. BTW, what is the difference between a flex TE and an H back? If you are playing a flex TE, that reduces the need for the TB to pickup blitzes so you can play guys like DJ Monroe at TB. Might be a good idea to cross train Malcolm at flex TE. UT might even run double flex TEs every now and then as part of our power passing attack (call it a down hill passing attack).
