Today the Big 12 announced the Big Monday basketball schedule for next year.
Texas gets four games, the biggest being the February 8th home game against Kansas. And that will be the biggest home game since…?
Big XII on Big Monday
January 11 Oklahoma State at Oklahoma
January 18 Texas at Kansas State
January 25 Missouri at Kansas
February 1 Texas at Oklahoma State
February 8 Kansas at Texas
February 15 Kansas at Texas A&M
February 22 Oklahoma at Kansas
March 1 Oklahoma at Texas
ESPN clearly has an affinity for Texas and Kansas.

I really like Cal today.
ATM and Cornell look too good to be true and the public is all over both of them.
I gotta believe that Izzo beats Maryland today, I haven’t been impressed with the Terps this year. I am surprised that they are favored.

Kevin Berger from March To March lays it out for us here.
1) Interior Worries. As in the Bears shouldn’t have any defensively even if Cal is an undersized group. Brian Zoubek and Lance Thomas aren’t going to drop step and dunk you to death on the low block so Mike Montgomery can

I think your overall point is a good one. Barnes is a “system” guy especially defensively, which plays into how he overall plays the game. He wants to play a high pressure, overplay man2man scheme predicated on effort, good technique and overall quickness. Similar to Duke, but even Coach K (in fairness

What a glorious, glorious day of basketball at the Ford Center Saturday.
First, Ali Ali Farokhmanesh and all the other Panthers with cool names took down Kansas as Sherron Collins made his best effort to shed that “clutch” label on the last game of his collegiate career. Then of course, Kansas State waved goodbye to Jimmer

The one thing I will say is that Jordan has just started to show his ability with a basketball. The reason that he did not show his talents is up to all the

Both teams are unselfish and preach sharing the ball. A&M is a balanced scoring team. Sloan showed in the first round against Utah State, for example, that he can defer when his teammates have things going. Purdue once again will have to rely on JaJuan Johnson and E’Twaun Moore to produce, and hope

I’m with you the off season is already old. I’m ready for the season to start. NDS I am completely fascinated by the Tech vs. Lech business. I can’t believe they ran off the guy that put them on the map and subsequently ended up with an arguable upgrade in Tubs.

Got a little time this morning and I’m rearing to talk some football. Here’s what the depth chart looks like headed into spring and a few thoughts:
Offense
QB Sr. Taylor Potts/Sr. Steven Sheffield – We’ve all annointed Sheffield as the starter, and I think that’s the case if we continue to run 99% of our snaps

Unless you’re completely retarded, you know precisely what I meant. The closest any Big 12 team has gotten to winning the infamous Fuller Cup is the 2007 Texas squad. I can’t remember a team being that horribly undisciplined as a whole aside from the insane OU teams of the 80’s. That’s not

I suppose anyone could be your “favorite Longhorn basketball player” but Ford did more than just about anyone…although Durant is clearly better. Ford’s supporting cast was better than Durant’s in his sophomore year. Durant’s had more talent (Augustin, James, Abrams) but Ford’s was more developed (Boddicker, Ivey, Mouton, Thomas) and had worked with him for

Strollin’ Nolan brought #3 Arkansas in for the overtime win over Texas in 1990. That was Pender’s best team and it appeared to have the win when Lance Blanks hit two free throws with 14 seconds to go to give Texas a three-point lead. I think it was the Hogs Lee Mayberry who had been called for an intentional foul, and Richardson, thinking the game was lost, stormed off the court and into the locker room.
But Travis Mays missed the front end of a one-and-one and Mayberry hit a 30 footer to send it into overtime. Richardson came back and the Hogs won in overtime. The two met again in the Regional Finals in Dallas, and Arkansas won 88-85 to go to the Final Four.
The Austin game was the first time I can remember that the NY Times sent a columnist (Bill Rhoden) to Austin to cover a basketball game.

I was at that game. Everyone at the Drum (was it called the Frank Erwin Center yet?) watched as Nolan slowly walked across the court with time left on the clock in those hideous boots. The refs watched and did nothing.
Strollin’ Nolan had the refs so intimidated that they ignored what should have been an obvious technical foul. Maybe he threatened them with a lawsuit.

The officials said Nolan didn’t get a tech for walking off since it was a dead-ball situation.

Later that same season I had tickets to the regional at Reunion Arena. Texas beat Xavier with an unbelievable second half. I’m still embarrassed about taunting an older couple seated behind me from Xavier.
In the Elite 8 Arky beat us by 3. Fat Ass Oliver Miller climbed on top of the basket and did the Horns down until he finished his box of Twinkies.

That was a good Razorback team. The next year they met UNLV in a 1 vs 2 nonconference matchup. Since UNLV was playing in the Big West, this was the only game standing in the way of a perfect season for the Rebels. Unless you were counting on New Mexico State and Randy Brown.
The game was an up and down affair but UNLV was always in control. The highlight of the game was a Todd Day slap punch at Larry Johnson. Of course Day, weighing in at 170 pounds, promptly backed up 10 feet practically begged someone to break things up.
Grandmamma smiled with his gold grill and told Richardson to go recruit some men on the team. Rebels win 112 to 105. I’m pretty sure that Ron Huery and Lee Mayberry went nuts for the Hogs. Todd Day wet his pants. And the Runnin’ Rebs wouldn’t lose a game until they faced the Dukies in the final four.

And I have no problem with ESPN focusing on the top teams in the conference. Until Tech can play watchable basketball, there’s no sense in televising them nationally. Just like I wouldn’t be interested in watching Depaul-Rutgers or Georgia-Arkansas.

Highest-rated teams to match up on the Drum floor until… well… probably when KU comes to town next February.
