@BryanBennett brought up a point on this thread that I wanted to expand on.
Dogus will be be a perimeter threat with or without a credible jumper. This is why.
Imagine Balbay turning the corner on a pick and pop with Jordan Hamilton. Let’s think about it. Hedging forward (Hamilton’s man) slides out to allow Balbay’s defender to come under the screen, but the hedging forward is more concerned with getting out on Hamilton’s 3 ball off the pop because Jordan’s hit 3 of 4 from deep and the opposing coach has threatened to revoke the kid’s long distance calling privileges and free gas card if Hamilton isn’t contested. So the forward leaves his hedge early.
Opposite block has a poor kid who’s giving up 50 pounds to Pittman and is more concerned with Dexter getting his 5th dunk than sliding over to stop penetration. Strongside wing is distracted by a conversation about how Avery Bradley’s nuts smelled when the forward tried to step in and take a charge on Avery’s dunk a possession ago.
Damion James waits on the wing, knowing the opposing team’s 3rd best defender can’t keep him from tomahawking any miss from the other four. If you’re a realist, replace James with Alexis or Chapman.
But back to our pick and pop. Doge gets the blow by because that’s what Doge does. An average player simply cannot get in front of the Turk without solid hedge help. And this year, Doge uses his 40 inch vert to finish or find.

Frozen just a few feet from the basket, locked in his dreams, was Damion James.

I’m Mr. Bradley’s secret weapon. It’s a scripted play called the “tea-bagging & crumpets.”
I’m dragged over a defender’s face during a dunk, causing the defender to lose his cookies.

I’ll share my thoughts on Bill’s dream theme … as soon as the Editors of this fine publication get around to removing the profanity-laced personal attacks, befuddling threats of violence and unsurprising revelations of sexual eccentricities from my latest piece.

How much will Doge be on the court with Ward and Lucas taking minutes. I see him as a 10-15 minute a game guy at most.

Doge will begin the year as the starter when Lucas has to sit. There is a reason why he got most of the point guard minutes over Varez last year. Ward has a lot to work on to be a real point guard.

Balbay got minutes over Ward because we needed a “true” PG on the floor with the squad we ran. Ward has a good handle but is not a floor general, which was devastating at times with the team last year.
I think Ward has a higher ceiling, and depending on the lineup that we use Ward can be very dangerous attacking the basket. The guy can just flat out finish. Coming off the bench and attacking against the second team, Ward can collect garbage points very quickly.
Defense and consistency shooting the ball will determine how great this team will become.

It’s for priceless qoutes as these I keep returning. . .

Misspelled his name it’s DOG and he will howl at the moon come Sept./Oct. nights unless its an afternoon gig.
20 minutes + Dog will be spelled by Ward until Jai is ready to play. Ward will give Avery a blow when he needs it but he also gets a few when when DOG goes into RB’s doghouse.
“I fear Ward is gone.”
No way, maybe that tall white guy and James.
Mason is lost in the wilderness and not see PT come conference play.
Any word on Johnson??? Is he returning? Did I miss something on Johnson?

I’m one of the few people, I guess, who think that The Whirling Dervish gets few minutes at the start of the year, and those few diminish as the year goes by. There are others now at his position who have more skills.

Ransom – The kid’s an elite athlete, a superb defender, and will ostensibly have a cast of killers who cover up many of his warts.
Embarrassment of riches in Guards. Hope Rick figures out optimization.

Dogus – elite athelticism, quickness, defense, and ball handling. Natural point guard and distributor. Needs to improve jumper.
Varez – near elite athleticism, quickness, and defense. Good finisher. Elite testicles. Jump shot has potential. Needs to work on ball handling and decision making.
You have two imperfect guards here. I think Dogus gets more time at the 1 and Varez makes those minutes up at the 2 and the 3 when we go small.
What will probably happen is we will go point guard by committee and the guy that is playing well will get the minutes.

Doge averaged 20 minutes a game this past season. I see that only going one way with the emergence of Ward at the end of the season and Lucas now being able to play and that is down.

I want to see Dogus DUNK the ball next season. I mean seriously throw it down. I can’t tell you how frustrating it was last season to watch him miss layups.
I really like Dogus though. I have confidence in him that he CAN be a REALLY good PG.

you have to be a great shooter to play PG in the big 12
