On the other side of awesome, OU got absolutely futtbucked to the tune of 11-0 by Arky in the fortress that is L. Dale Mitchell Park where over 50 vehement OU baseball fans came to show their undying support...and earn priority points for better football seats.

Doesn't small ball make even less sense with an aluminum bat?

I don't have any data to back this up, but isn't it harder to effectively bunt when you have a "trampoline effect" with aluminum?

When you factor in the higher batting averages and higher slugging percentages with aluminum (assumptions on my part), why would you bunt at all - except for obvious situations?

So, the Big 12 is blessed with both Austin Wood and Austin Box. Is there a young Austin Taint out there to continue the legacy?

I also thought the "bunt every time we get the leadoff runner on first" strategy bailed out the Army pitchers when they were struggling and it would have been helpful to work the count and make them throw more pitches.

Hey Scipio-I don't let this orange pussy loose for nothin'! I only put out if you can offer me a diamond ring and commitment-and it better not be some fake from the bottom of a Barking Cracker Jack box!

ed -

We're not claiming that we'd bust out with 8-run innings every time we aren't forced to bunt. But the simple fact is that Augie used the bunt strategy pretty much every time we had a runner on and it was feasible this weekend until the end of the game last night.

We scored 10 runs in the first 39 offensive innings of the regional with our bunt every time strategy. We scored 10 runs in the last 3 offensive innings when we abandoned that strategy and didn't bunt. Well, we bunted in the 7th after Keyes' bomb and it predictably resulted in our scoring zero runs for the rest of the frame.
