I detect a hint of sarcasm in your post. What Wood did yesterday was nothing short of legendary and if you followed the sport of tennis at all you would realize what happened at the French was also legendary. Both efforts were superhuman so in that way I think they are related. I guess you can mock me for posting tennis info on a longhorn site but I was swept up in the moment. I will not make that mistake again….apologies all around.

1. Bill James has done nothing at any level of baseball. Yet he’s essentially a living god among modern GM’s. Theo Epstein hasn’t either, and he’s got two world series rings.

2. Billy Beane, was assigned AHEAD of Darryl Strawberry coming out of the Rookie Draft by the Mets. Pretty much everybody’s all american. The guy would laugh in the face of your comments. There is not a pitcher alive that wants to come out of a game, witness Pedro Martinez in 2003 ALCS. It’s not the manager who let’s a guy stay in, it’s the one that says: We need you tomorrow, hit the showers, that shows true depth of character and balls.

3. Austin Wood’s effort is truly an amazing event, something that will live on for many, many years. The question is existential, but real: If he’s selling houses in Westlake in five years cause his rotator cuff is non existent, was it worth it? Is glory now, in the moment, worth whatever you’ve sacrificed in the future?

I know nothing about baseball, but I do want to know why a tennis player needs a nickname that’s virtually the same as his actual name – “Rafa” vs “Rafael”? That’s like “Sergi” vs “Sergio” in golf, or “LeBro” vs “LeBron” in hoops. Tennis weird.
