Texas beat Missouri 12-7 yesterday to win the Big 12 tournament for the second straight year. And they could probably care less.
When Augie Garrido was asked to reflect on the title, he replied “I’ve already moved on.”
And Cameron Rupp let everyone know the difference between Texas and pretty much every other school out there. “You see a lot of teams dogpile out here and you see it at the super regional, but we know that’s not our main goal,” Rupp said. “Yeah, it’s great to win a championship, but you’ve got to treat it like another game. There are bigger things up ahead.”
Exactly the right mindset this team should have as it starts the NCAA tournament with a home regional this weekend.
They’ve now won 12 of 14 after going 0-2-1 against Kansas State at the end of April.

Positioned to do well. Anything less than Omaha is a major disappointment.
As a side note, I was happy to see Kevin Keyes swinging away with a man on first and one out yesterday.

Baseball America projects them as the number one seed.

Why not just bunt the guy around?

So what do y’all think about the bracket? Army didn’t appear to be the worst 4 in the brackets, but what do I know? It seems like we should walk into the Super Regional, regardless.

Texas State isn’t bad. They’ve beaten Rice, A&M and Baylor (twice) this year. But we should win this weekend without much trouble.

No one in that bracket has the pitching depth to beat us twice.

My updated ratings
It’s time to remember, once again, that college baseball is played west of the Mississippi. 2001 was the last time a team from east of the Mississippi won it all, and 1990 was the last time a team other than Miami did so. The last time a team other than Miami from east of the Mississippi won it all before Georgia in 1990? Wake Forest in 1955.
NCAA Baseball Championships by geography:
Eastern USA – 10
Western USA – 44
(Baton Rouge is on the Mississippi, right? So I took those 5 out. Same with Minneapolis and those 3.)
This, and the ratings above, leads to my annual bitchfest about the ridiculous seedings by the NCAA committee. Then the SEC and ACC blowhards will trumpet their regionals advancement as proof they should have been seeded highly when in fact it’s only because they were overseeded and got to play at home or closer to home that they advanced.
Texas State is pretty good, but our bracket isn’t too bad overall. TCU got screwed, though. I expect to see Oregon State advance out of that regional. No matter who wins it I hope they’re beat up for the next weekend. Three legitimate Top 15 teams in one regional.

so, according to the stats is there ever a time where bunting is a good idea?
