Bob Stoops. “Know excuses.”

Posted by Trips Right on May 25th, 2009 under Football

A whine fest from the coach formerly known as a no nonsense, no excuse man’s man. Courtesy of the Tulsa World News.

Keep in mind that after half a dozen disappointing bowl losses including a 55-10 national championship pantsing by USC and a loss to a full TD underdog LSU, Stoops is reduced to whining about the media not mentioning well, uh, excuses for his last two bowl losses. Evidently Demarco Murray’s absence or the absence of five starters in the bowl loss vs. West Virginia should have been shouted from the rooftops by media outlets everywhere. Or as Bob Stoops would say, the media needs to throw him and his excuse laden team a bone. It wasn’t enough that his team continually gets boned between the white lines in games vs teams with any semblance of a defense.

Of course what Stoops conveniently leaves out is the abject bullshit lottery of events that allowed his team to get to the conference and national championships to begin with. A sixty yard field goal in the snow from a Nebraska kicker, a computer pollster that doesn’t punish teams for scheduling division I-aa opponents, among a confluence of other impractical and improbable events ranging from incomprehensible to nefarious if you closely follow historical performances of teams like Cincinnati and voting habits of Big 12 coaches.

Yes, Bob, we know Demarco Murray ruptured a hammy. Certainly a rare occurrence for a running back trained by a steroid freak. Almost as rare as winning a tie breaker against an opponent that dominated you on a neutral field by double digits.

“I’m not going to use DeMarco’s injury as an excuse,” Stoops said. “But there is no denying that he was a major factor for our team. Everyone knew that all year, and they were writing about it.”

    Hmmmm.

  2. Bob Stoops has turned into Mack Brown circa 2001.

    Awesome.

  3. He needs to polish up his Big Book of Excuses for this year, when he’ll end up 1-4 vs Mack out of the last 5. (I’m sure it’ll be a speech about how he once won 5 in a row, so the streaks balance out, blah blah blah.)

57 yards and only overcast (I think the snow flurries were for Ryan Bailey’s 2006 kick in Lincoln.)

I’ll spot you the three yards and the snow, though, as long as we remember that NU was favored by 18 that day, and trailed in part because Pelini handed CU several easy scores. It was a great kick, but that result was supposed to happen.

I watched the West Virginia Fiesta Bowl just the other day for the first time. It was jaw dropping just how unprepared Stoops’ team was. It wasn’t a case of WV playing over their heads for an interim coach; OU clearly was going through the motions, particularly in the first half. It seems to me Stoops should have caught a lot more shit for that particular game than he did.

    Good question, ass.

No, it won’t murder my soul.

Even if we do lose in October, you’ll choke down the stretch because your coach and your players are pillow soft.

We’ll win out, win the conference and go play in a BCS game again.

    And you won’t.

It’s what happens when your program is pussified.

Fecal, and anyone else calling UT “soft”: They have scoreboard. THEY. HAVE. SCOREBOARD. If they’re soft, then we’re Egyptian cotton. Stow it.

And, Trips, saving the worst for last. A “whine fest”? I’d ask if you were mentally challenged, but you’ve just got the orange kool aid bleeding through you. You probably look like a middle age Plano housewife fresh out of a Mystic Tan right about now.

809 words. 150 from Stoops including this gem:

Nate, any excuses in a BCS showdown lost by 40 points are ridiculous.

Texas has to make no apologies for beating a Buckeye team loaded with NFL prospects trying to break a BCS losing streak (sound familiar?). Given that the Utah win the day before snapped the last thread of hope for a split MNC, Texas still came out and played well. No apologies for a win.

OU, meanwhile, managed to score 14 against a good, but not legendary, Florida defense. OU didn’t show up.

Texas beat a talented Ohio State team, despite having a broken spirit by not getting the NC birth they deserved. Despite playing in a game I doubt many if any of the players wanted to be in, they still found a way to come out on top. Do I think a team that has that kind of heart, a team that beat your sooners by double digits in Dallas, a team who’s defense was only getting better and better could beat a Florida team that frankly looked rather pediastrian at times against ou? Hell yes I think they could. Would they have? I have no idea but I would have loved to have found out.

So what’s your excuse for losing so often to an “excuse” of a program? My theory is that you’re a bunch of land-grabbing, slacked-jawed, inbreeding, shitbag okies. As such you’re cumdump of a state can only produce so many quality football players. The rest you have to get from the great state of Texas. Seeing as how such a large majority of your team is made up of a bunch of cowardly traitors, is it really any wonder the Longhorns, the real flagship Univeristy of Texas, has so consistently kicked your ass through out history?

But you know, congrats on winning the “Beat by Texas” game this past year. Too bad that meant you had to play in another BCS game, where you once again shit the brick. BCS bowls are to you guys what Michael Jackson is to little boys. Maybe stoopsie should try and convince his little suckbags to not vote for him. Great, so you inbreds win more conference titles. Then you go on to embarrass yourselves and bore the nation on an annual basis. We don’t need any excuses, one conference title = 1 national championship. We get dicked out of the game we deserve to be in and we win the one we play in. All I see us doing is rising to the occasion at the end of the season. OU just does its Oklahoma thing, loud and exciting in the beginning but you always wind up sucking balls in the end. Funny how football parallels life.

  47. TaylorTRoom said:

Another reason Stoops deserves no sympathy. Murray and Granger were both injured during the B12 CG. The final BCS vote was the next day, and if he announced they were seriously hurt, there was a slight chance that voters might elevate Texas (remember- missing starters hurts, right?). Therefore, Stoops said Dec. 6 that both players were expected to play in the bowl game. Ten days later he officially announced they wouldn’t play. So in order to help himself, he misled on injuries, and now wants sympathy for them not playing.

Lets face facts: If the Big XII referees enforced the actual rules of the game, specifically the rule called “holding”, Texas would have won all of their games and by much larger margins.

The Big XII teams that benefitted most by the referees looking the other way….well let’s just say their offenses didn’t look so dominating during the Bowl season against pedestrian defenses…cOUgh choke,cOUgh choke.

…and then he whines that he can’t be expected to beat WVU with five starters out.

    ha, nice Tim burn.

I was wondering where you went Ded. I got sick of looking at the same article everyday for 2 weeks. I’ve been up to Taos a few times this season, but it’s not that far from ABQ. I am absolutely convinced that everyone in Texas has been to Angel

8-4 would be pretty good, 9-3 would be stellar, in fact quite amazing. I still say we are two years away from having an impact year in college football, though.

On another note, the game against tech is gonna be on ESPN. Time for SMU to step it up on the national stage again.
