The General,
I think the WR screen you were looking for could be seen at ~1:55. However, this was an effective play, so we really don’t know how he will take the blow from an unblocked defender 4 yards behind the line of scrimmage.

Yeah your right, penders teams were at least fun to watch play. Barnes offense is pretty bad not as bad as Tom’s but its all relative to who is watching the worst offense in Texas history.

Our hoops team is the basketball version of Major League.
Jake Taylor = Damion James
Pedro Cerrano = Dexter Pittman
Willie Mays Hays = Avery Bradley
Roger Dorn = Justin Mason
Isuro Tanaka (Major League II) = Dogus Balbay
Rube Baker (Major Leauge II) = Jordan Hamilton
If Craig Way starts drinking whiskey during the broadcasts, it’ll complete the analogy.

I don’t think McCoy played anywhere near the level of Suh and the numbers make it clear that he did not. Suh had twice as many tackles (77-31), sacks (11-5) and nearly tackles for loss (22-14.5). Suh also broke up 10 passes, if he gets stonewalled on the rush he doesn’t allow it to take

I don’t think it’s a case of RB not being able to coach, or doing a poor job of coaching. If you read the entirety of Katz’ blog post, he clearly sounds like a coaching searching for answers — answers that come in the form of players contributing, doing what they are coached to do.

“How about the fact that it is Nebraska – not Oklahoma – that has the second highest number of guys in the NFL currently?”
What surprises me more is that OU isn’t even third on that list.
“Quan Cosby will sign as a FA with Cincinnati. He’ll make that roster. Right now he’s pissed off with a chip on his shoulder and that will fuel his play.”
Hell, even I’m pissed off with a chip on my shoulder about how it went down for him, so I imagine Quan will be coming in with some genuine attitude. The rest of the league will find out soon enough what’s up. Bengals got a steal.
The good news is MBTF says Quan received seven other offers immediately after the draft, so at least he had the chance to pick the best fit for him. Probably better for him than being drafted late.

Hmmm – I really like Cosby as a player, but in Cincinnati, he faces a roster loaded at WR:
Certain on their roster:
Andre Caldwell
Antonio Chatman
Lavernius Coles
Chris Henry
Chad Ochocinco
Jerome Simpson (2nd round pick last year)
So, NFL clubs carry – what, 6 or 7 active, 2 or 1 practice squad WRs? Bengals already have, on their roster, practice squad players from last year:
Maurice Purify (the Nebraska kid)
Mario Urrutia (7th round pick, 2008 draft)
AND they drafted Freddie Brown (Utah) in the 7th round.
So you’ve got, barring injuries, four guys battling it out for perhaps two practice squad spots? Not a sure thing at all. And don’t mention “off the field” problems for Cincy WR’s – up there, they live by the motto “If it ain’t a felony, you ain’t tryin’…”
GigoloJoe said:

Quan should be wearing a This is Awkward T-shirt.
That was a brutal segment.
Did any scouts see the Fiesta Bowl where Quan went for 10/155/2 against while lined up most of the day against the 14th pick in the draft?
Mature, decent speed, good hands, tough, played well in big games…but he’s 5′9″.
Of the 10 WRs taken in round 6 and 7, only one was under 6 feet, Manny Johnson. Most guys were 6′1 – 6′4 210+ projects with far less production but more potential upside.
Welcome to the league. May The Quan continue to surprise.

Actually, Bill Cosby’s degree is a legit Ed.D from U Mass. It could be said that the fact that his diss. was based on Fat Albert as a “teaching tool” takes some of the value away, but that kind of thing is basically what an Ed.D is. His BA from Temple is honorary, however, granted because of his “life experience.”
Either way, though, anybody insisting that they should be called doctor when they can’t transplant a heart with a penknife or at the very least prescribe party favors is kind of a tool.

Orakpo will need to develop a better way to disengage from contact if he wants to make an impact at the next level – or else he will be relegated to 3rd and long situations where he can pin his ears back. When I saw the video of Brandon Pettigrew collapsing (mauling) Orakpo, I instantly thought of the O-coordinators and O-line coaches in the NFL scheming to run his way. That written, I would NOT want my QB to take a 5 step drop with this guy across from him.
Scipio Tex said:
April 27th, 2009 at 2:54 pm
Pettigrew is easily the best blocking TE I’ve seen in the last decade at the college level. The only blocker I’ve seen comparable at TE was Jason Peters from Arkansas – who is now an All-Pro NFL OT.
Pettigrew definitely gave Orakpo some problems – as much because of his quickness as his strength. Orakpo finished the game with 6 tackles, 2 TFL and a sack but that’s a deceptive box score.
Interestingly, Brian never really struggled with the goliath OTs.
ValhallaRising said:
April 27th, 2009 at 3:24 pm
Orakpo has all of the attributes to be VERY effective at the next level – I just hope he get’s the coaching to develop his second move should the run come his way. John Palermo will be his position coach – the same guy who touted Erasmus James of Wisconsin as the next Julius Peppers. Anyway, if Orakpo is fortunate to be on the same side as Haynesworth, that will be the biggest factor in his transition – a space eater in the gap will usually draw guard help.

There’s a very good reason for your confusion, George: both my prior posts suck.
Essentially, they’re two brain farts in the same thread, with both being the unfortunate consequence of me trying to get dressed and out of the house in a hurry while simultaneously jumping from one horn-related website to another getting the latest info on where my Longhorns went in the draft.
So, let me amend, hopefully correctly and for the last time:
Scipio expressed surprise that Oklahoma has fewer current players in the NFL than Nebraska, both of which trail the Horns. I was even more surprised that prior to this weekend, OU had fewer current players in the NFL than three other Big XII teams (putting them tied for fourth before the most recent draft). They’ve now moved past A&M by one player to take sole possession of third place. It did, and still does, surprise me that A&M until very recently had more players in the pros than OU.
