Some Thoughts on the Jordan Classic

Jordan Hamilton’s debut was predictably rusty. The good news is that Jordan has all the tools and the willingness to use them. Forced some shots but who doesn’t in games like this? Hamilton showed a nice handle, a fluid release shooting the ball, and the willingness to defend. He reminds me of Georgetown’s Reggie Williams. Smooth and long. His ability to create for others a huge plus.

Speaking of old school Georgetown, props to Bradley for rocking the old school G-town undershirt. You’ll have a tough time finding a better finishing two guard in this class. You certainly won’t find a better defensive two. Bradley is Bradley and congratulations again to him for being rated the number 1 player in the Scout 100…

But he’s not the number one player, sorry. That spot belongs to John Wall if anyone’s looking at this objectively. Wall is a 6-3 TJ Ford, who can get anywhere on the floor anytime he wants with the dribble. He handles like Kenny Anderson, is as quick as Stephon Marbury, and has great size for a pg. He’s also unselfish if tonight’s ball game was any indication. If he goes to Kentucky I’ll actively mock people with pinky rings whenever I see them. If he goes to Baylor, I’ll take shots in front of my Pastor and tell him it’s God’s will. If he goes to Duke, I’ll try out for quarterback at Michigan State. Wall is just f’n sick. I would have loved to see Bradley guard him.

Tiny Gallon is sloth-like tub of goo who can shoot the hell out of the ball. Capel will have his hands full trying to get this kid to do anything other than hang out on the perimeter and look for 3’s. Defense? pfffff.

If I was Michael Jordan I’d have spanked Marcus at halftime for rocking the Kurt Rambis goggles. Can dad get some low hanging shorts, ankle socks, and tongue wagging? It’s his exhibition afterall.

Kenny Boynton is nice. He’ll make Florida fans forget about Nick Calathes.

TMG is a better player than people think. Byron Eaton with a J.

Mason Plumlee is Joey Beard.

Royce White, kid going to Minnesota impressed me. He’s already got a college junior’s body and he gets down and dirty on the defensive end. Perfect player for the Big 10, but he can score like an ACC forward.

Reynardo Sidney defends like he’s playing a game of HORSE.

If Xavier Henry goes to Kansas, I’ll put a hit out on HenryJames. I hate how Xavier’s name is pronounced more than I hate the way HenryJames uses European style spelling.

    Most unwatchable all-star game ever.

    I agree with you on John Wall. His acceleration and ball-handling are off the charts.

    I was very impressed with Jordan Hamilton’s handle and passing skills.

    It’s fucking heartwarming that John Wall made a promise to his parents that he’d go to college for at least a year or two.

    John Wall promised his dying father he would go to college at least for a year. John Wall was nine when he made this promise.

    Seriously, though, I love watching that fucker play. He does things with the basketball that I’ve never seen before.

    yeah, it would be a terrible blow to his parents if he went directly into a job making millions rather than spending a year in college… before taking the same job. I’m not sure that promise is going to make it unscathed through the heat of potential immediate millions of dollars…

    If, by some weird happenstance, he did opt to try to go straight into the league – where would he be drafted? Especially in this year’s draft…

    I LOVE the fact that Hamilton was spreading around assists.

    Hamilton also showed good handle and I like the fact that wasn’t hesitant to shoot. He trust his shot.

    Bradley had some good moments. I think he is going to SHINE at Texas.

    I loved watching MJ’s kid throwing down a dunk on a breakaway.

    Cousins played good as well.

    Wall would for sure go Top 8 in this year’s draft.

    Seeing him blow by defenders and be able to finish (even dunking with authority) using both hands was impressive. He’s more Derrick Rose than TJ. Maybe not as strong but maybe a little quicker.

    I actually thought this game was played better than the McD’s game, which to me is like watching the Harlem Globetrotters.

    Isn’t Xavier Henry the guy who got posterized by Willie Warren? You’ve seen it on youtube. It’s the one when the guy gets teabagged and Warren’s junk rides the other guy’s face all the way to the ground like Trips on a tranny hooker. If I were Henry, I’d go to KU just for a shot to get even.

    Avery Bradley and Jordan Hamilton are going to be nightmares next year at UT. I think they’ll be one and done, but I thought Warren was a one and done guy when he signed, too. So, you never really know.

    As for Tiny Gallon…if Capel can light a fire under his Crisco-inflated ass and get him to work out and play even a modicum of defense, then he could be a very dangerous player. He’s got a good enough outside J to run a guy like Dexter Pittman ragged off the ball because, unlike Blake Griffin, you have to seriously respect Gallon on the perimeter.

    Granted, if Tiny stays in his current condition, Dex wouldn’t be running so much as walking at a slightly hurried pace.

    I wondered if Tiny’s issue was fatigue or if he really detests getting back to play defense. If it’s just a conditioning issue, then Capel could take care of that pretty easily. If it’s desire then he is going to be an infuriating player for the sooner fans. I question how effective he can be in the Big 12 next year if he isn’t a lot better conditioned.

    Watch the first five minutes again. They fought to a draw.

    The first time, Wall got past Bradley. The next time, Bradley made him stop, the ball came up high and Bradley stole it. The next time, Wall turned on the jets and drew a blocking foul.

    But then Bradley got the ball, went down the lane, past Wall, and got the layup and the foul. Put it this way… Wall was less interested in the defensive challenge than Bradley.

    Wall has the tools, no doubt. I think Bradley makes him pause, though.

    This play was to me the most impressive one. Bradley was pissed at the ref as he felt he had clearly beaten Wall to the spot. Whether he had or not is an irrelevancy. The anticipation and quickness was unbelievable.

    Sailor and Bob, thanks. I missed the first 6 or 7 minutes. Bradley needs to improve his handle just a tad bit and he can play lead guard. His move to Findlay prep and away from Gaddey was a good one in this respect.

    If I’m being honest, I think it’s desire. I genuinely believe Capel will get him into playing shape by the time the conference season starts this year. But even the much-revered Blake Griffin was known to get a bit lax on the defensive end from time to time. I don’t think this bothers Capel as long as (not so) Tiny throws up 15 points a night.

    Wall would be the number 1 or 2 pick this year without a shadow of a doubt, and will be the number 1 pick next year as long as he plays decently (which I assume won’t happen and that he will be an All-American).

    I thought it would be a LONG time before I saw a player at D. Rose’s level of speed and quicks again, turns out I only had to wait a couple of years. IMO Xavier Henry is overrated. One last note, this has to be one of the laziest classes I’ve ever seen. Between Cousins, Gallon, Sidney, and Run TMG, I start to wonder if half of these guys even care about the passion side of the game…

    highly doubt Wall goes over Griffin. scouts have a boner for Ricky Rubio, tambien.

    think Wall would probably go in the next couple picks.

    Every mock draft I saw that had Rubio and Wall in the same draft has John ahead of Ricky. I’d take Wall over Griffin in a heartbeat, his ceiling is so much higher.

    This notion that Jordan Hamilton is more talented than Shawn Williams is the most asinine thing I have ever heard. The problem is that most of you who write this stuff have no basis for it other than what you’ve read on another website and based on rankings. I live in Cali and have seen Jordan Hamilton play numerous times and while he can play he is nowhere near as good as all you clowns on this site try to make him out to be. His own AAU coach told me that he was good but he wasn’t as good as he or other people think he is. Greg Hicks over at Scout.com has told me repeatedly that he is vastly overrated and he does all the scouting for the West Coast. Dave Telep who is the head scout at Scout.com told me point blank that there were kids who made the McDonald’s team who weren’t as talented as Shawn Williams and Telep has a vote on the committee. You take that for what it’s worth and stop all this crazy talking ya’ll doing man.
