  1. Kind of surprised that neither Ryan Roberson or Tariq Allen are at MLB. The only names on the depth chart there are Norton (senior) and Dustin Earnest.

  2. I miss you Roy Miller

  3. Walters at Guard is silly.

Can’t imagine Ben Wells sticking around buried 3rd on the depth chart with more studs on the way.

Standard amount of -or-’s, glad to see Aaron Williams given a shot at the starting job. Beasley has his work cut out for him. Talkin about practice, man? Practice?

  4. Christian Scott is now backing up Earl Thomas while Nolan Brewster is now backing up Blake Gideon. No controversy!

Our depth at defensive tackle is thinner than Scipio’s little black book.

Mason Walters is starting out at guard.

Mark Buchanan of Austin High is 2nd team right guard. If a player from Austin High starts for Texas, the magnitude of suck will be so strong that the program will collapse into itself like a dying star.

    Aaron Williams is bloodthirsty.

He makes Scipio leap to his feet and shout obscenities at my children.

  6. I like Aaron Williams at cb, but earl Thomas starting at both safety and nickel is interesting

Always thought Cody was better than most gave him credit for, but I am surprised to see him so high up. I didn’t think Mac would let a 250lb back start. TE looks like a pile of shit again, but its good that desean is on the chart this year.

  9. Does Houston really weigh 290?

He does when he’s doused in Mercury.

  11. I’m heading out to practice tomorrow with a scale, tape measure, and a singular mission to bring you the truth.

    The lies must stop.

If AJ Abrams played football he’d be 5′11″ 175.

  12. SHOCKEE being healthy will help us this year.

    Hook ‘em!

  13. Assuming he goes to class.

I’m SHOCKEED that TB is 5′11″ 255, and our FB is 6′ 215.

It sounds silly to say but we are loaded at kicker and punter.

It’s like 1:30 in the morning. You very deliberatly look at your watch. You again mention the early meeting you’ve got tomorrow. You yawn audibly.

Montrae Webber and Phil Payne head to the frige for another beer.

  18. The TE depth chart is like a test or something. ‘Which one of these is not like the other?’ Same for running back.

I thought I read somewhere that Nolan Brewster would be getting a try at LB.

Ben Wells behind Gideon and Brewster make about as much sense as our nation’s financial sytem management.

I hate the off-season. Although, that’s the only time of the year when I get any real work done.

  20. I speculated that he would based on his weight, but it looks like he’s sticking at safety at least for now.

  21. Ben Wells has looked beyond lost everytime I’ve seen him in a game.

  22. Seems like Mack will let a player stay at his position of choice until, essentially, the player realizes the error of his ways. Then the coaches gently suggest a move to the spot THEY want him to play.

Also, staff will sometimes move somebody after the first half of spring drills. Not usually anybody who would play at his old or new position.

  23. Apparently Jarvis Humphrey is now behind Kyle Kriegel at DT and behind a blank space at nose tackle

  24. Ooops, I see he is listed as “will miss or be limited during spring season”

  25. evidently, Humphrey has a rather severe (at least mysterious) internal issue.

I can maybe live with Beasley as a nickel, but Williams passing him to take the majority of the snaps at CB is the best thing on this chart.

Unless it’s a designated White Safety spot, Brewster as second team behind Gideon is a non-starter. A spin to LB might mean he can at least contribute as a somewhat meaningful back-up before he graduates. But I’m not seeing it in the secondary.

Roberson doesn’t strike me as a LB; one to watch to see how it plays out.

  30. I see Blaine Irby will miss or be limited during spring. There a chance he’s ready to go by fall camp?

  31. Walter Mason at Guard? WTF?!?!?!

Why not move Trey Allen’s ass to Guard and then we don’t have 2 guys playing out of position?

  32. Spring Branch Horn said:

    Chiles to WR?

  33. “I see Blaine Irby will miss or be limited during spring. There a chance he’s ready to go by fall camp?”

No. If he’s healthy and ready to go for 2010 I’ll be thrilled.

  34. Can someone explain to me why we’re writing off Nolan Brewster after his freshman season?

“I can maybe live with Beasley as a nickel, but Williams passing him to take the majority of the snaps at CB is the best thing on this chart.”

    Couldn’t agree more..

  38. TE looks like my drunk dial list. Who is in charge of handling this position? He/she should vacation to Guantanimo.

  39. If you think this depth chart means virtually anything you are kidding yourself.

  40. Black Scholes said:

I’ll echo moving Trey Allen to G.

Mysterious – let’s not go down the path that ends with a discussion of the TE coaching position at Texas. That spot was designated to turn over regularly, bringing young coaches/new blood through the program. Instead we hired a HS coach who being no one’s dummy quickly realized this was the best gig he was ever going to get. Since he’s a loyal dude and shows up to work on time, Mack ain’t going to pull the trigger.

Actually I don’t think he’s done a bad job. Just wasn’t planned for him to be a lifer, and I think we’ve lost something in the trade.

  41. Horncasting said:

Read somewhere that Walters would start at guard to get him on the field early and that he would then move to tackle – possibly as early as 2010 depending on how much Allen develops.

  42. So in other words, Walters will be at tackle in 2010.

  43. I think Earl Thomas as starting Nickel back is interesting. Seems to imply a nickel group of Brown (Ch. or Cu.), Christian Scott, Gideon, Williams, and Thomas. Since nickel was pretty much our base set that would put Christian Scott on the field for a bunch of plays.

  44. DJ – exactly.

I just pointed that out here too.

  45. I guess I’m more surprised that Walters isn’t at Center.

  46. I think there are more snaps at OG for him if we hold true to Hall/Snow at C.

That’s quite a stretch to view the away goals rule as a harkening to the territorial origins of the game. The game is now split between matches taking place entirely in one town or the other.

The rule is a bad one, IMO. You don’t even have to take it to its logical extreme

There is no question as to why Baylor is favored to beat Texas tonight – they are two teams on completely different paths since January, and Baylor is coming off perhaps its most impressive win of the year, the dunk-filled dismantling of Texas on Saturday. Baylor hasn’t beaten Texas three times in the same season since 1981-82. Can we break that streak tonight?

Rather than some esoteric discussion of the relative merits of each team, I think it’s relevant to do a quick look at the stats from our first two matchups.

If the season ended today, the Spurs would be in a tie for the 7th seed in the Western Conference with the Portland Trailblazers.  With the Grizzlies only 3.5 games back, there is not much room for error down the stretch.  And unfortunately, there are a lot of land mines ahead.

Over $300 million spent, zero improvement.  Real Madrid brought in two world players of the year to usher in a new Galactico era and win the European title, but it was Lyon’s committed teamwork and diligent defending that sees the French champions through to the quarterfinals.

I’ll comment on that game. The Ags didn’t quit because, unlike their customary curb-stomping against K-State and OU, they actually had some early success where they scored on a broken coverage. Secondly, no doubt, Jerrod Johnson was on fire. If he plays like that every game next year, the Ags are going to be tough
