Don’t look now but Memphis is for Real

Posted by Trips Right on February 11th, 2009 under Basketball

Coach Cal moves Tyreke Evans to the point and the Memphis Tigers are blasting folks. They went to Gonzaga Saturday and face raped the fighting John Stocktons. Tonight, they hold a pretty solid Tulsa squad to 39 points.

Keep in mind that Memphis returns five big contributors from the Championship runner up club including Taggart, Dozier, Mack, and Anderson. Throw in dynamic point guard Tyreke Evans and you have a solid nucleus that can do damage in the tourney.

If they go in as a 4 seed or worse, they’ll be a tremendous value pick in your Calcuttas and confidence pools. They can defend inside and out, and have creators off the dribble that thrive in a tournament setting. I’m cashing in my IBM stock and buying World Wide Wes (WWW).

Neck tats, holla.

Gangsta Hoopa.

  1. I think face raping has ran its course and no longer has a place in college sports.
Henceforth, raping of the face or otherwise, shall be left up to professionals: Kobe, James Lofton, Hollywood Henderson, Mike Tyson….

  2. Nova and Memphis are starting to look like Final Four teams while some of the top contenders (that’s you, Wake ) are starting to fade early.

Texas won’t get that far but if we finish out strong in conference and get a decent draw I could envision a run into the sweet 16 and beyond … just as easy as a 2nd round loss by double digits.

It’s pretty obvious why Barnes threw everything he had at landing Evans all the while knowing the chips were stacked against him with the WWW connection to Memphis.

The good news is Jordan Hamilton and Avery Bradley can make a similar impact for the Horns next year.

Yeah, Coach Cal has the Tigers playing some pretty vicious D right now. The inside game is suspect, however. Dorsey wasn’t much of a scorer, but he was an inside force, and they haven’t found a replacement for CDR. Tyreke is tough but he’s not Rose.

I frankly still don’t see how they lost to Kansas. Freak event.

But yeah, they can go far in the tourney. Some are saying they can win it. Hellish defense took Arkansas to a title, although that was a better outside shooting team than Memphis.

    Blasphemy!

I didn’t watch all the games you guys played all year but yesterday’s game seemed to me to hinge on the ineffectiveness of Sherron. really sad for that guy as he’s a baller. I think Ojanb Bob said this over at BC too. He just couldn’t get it done on either

Missed the point, but par for the course. I’ll go back to my developmentally challenged assistance home and cry.

Indeed, back on point. Any rumblings about anyone else on the take? Tiny and TMG had great panache’. They sounded like a Vegas show….

I agree the RG position will be the most interesting development of the Spring. Last year Okafor couldn’t drive block and couldn’t run in the open field on screen plays. If he’s not physically capable of losing weight and improving, I want to know who will replace him. Suh and McCoy may

I wish they weren’t playing Kentucky next. Same goes for #11 seed Washington having to play West Virginia.

Sucks that we are getting the two best teams left in the tourney playing in the Elite 8 possibly.

An already painful week turned excruciating for Carlo Ancelotti. After being dumped out of the Champions League midweek by former hero Jose Mourinho, Chelsea failed to rebound and dropped two valuable points at Blackburn. Manchester United edged Liverpool and now control the Premier League race.

A forlorn figure on the touchline, Carlo Ancelotti could

With Leach at the wheel I was expecting a 10 win minimum season with the guys this team has coming back in 2010. Now with Tubbs, Willis, and Brown running the show I’m in agreement it’s anywhere between 9-12 wins this year.

Very exciting to hear your take on the O-line ded, as

    No Kalin Lucas?

    No problem.

“Too Easy” has had his share of leg and ankle problems this season, and with two minutes left in the Spartans’ second round matchup with Greivis Vasquez and the Maryland Terrapins, he made an early exit.

Cornell is playing phenomenally well. I’d be surprised if Wiscy doesn’t cut into the lead in the 2nd half.
