blogpoll – Week 14 (12.3.08)

Posted by on November 30th, 2008 under Football

Here’s this week’s. We ranked based on many criteria. Uniform colors. Ferocity of mascots. Tailgating scene. Quality of cheerleader tail. We didn’t feel the need to use head-to-head wins since it doesn’t mean jack fucking shit in college football.

I have also enlisted CloseToJumping to share a few thoughts with us. As one of the more rational Barkers, I felt it was only appropriate to ask him to shed a bit of light, where there is darkness. He should be along shortly.

Rank Team Delta
1 Alabama
2 Texas
3 Florida
4 Southern Cal 1
5 Oklahoma 1
6 Utah 1
7 Texas Tech 1
8 Penn State 2
9 Boise State 3
10 Ohio State 1
11 Ball State 6
12 Oklahoma State 1
13 TCU 1
14 Georgia Tech 4
15 Missouri 2
16 Brigham Young 6
17 Cincinnati 1
18 Georgia 8
19 Oregon
20 Boston College 3
21 Pittsburgh 3
22 Mississippi 4
23 Michigan State 3
24 Kansas 2
25 Oregon State 10

Dropped Out: Florida State (#21), Nebraska (#25).

PB @ BON was more sanguine so I have awarded him more style points. Check him here.

I don’t agree with the people who keep referring to Bob Stoops as a bullet-headed churl. He is a visionary. By combining the nation’s best offense with a very mediocre defense (6th in the Big 12 by yardage), he has adopted the same championship model as Marv Levy and Mike Martz.

  2. Whatever model Stoops employs, he owns Mack Brown. Mack has beaten him four times and has one conference title. Stoops has beaten Brown six times and will soon have seven titles.

Moral of the story: Nice guys finish second.

Nice to hear Mack on the OU?OSU broadcast lobby for votes. Stoops was requested be on the TX/aTm broadcast but declined, saying that it would be a lack of class for him to appear. Who’s nicest now?

You’re right. Stoops (a lot of people call him a bullet-headed churl, but I think that’s too harsh) is a very nice guy (I hear he helps his wife sell Mary Kay). Maybe that’s why his defense gives up 31 points per Big 12 game. I think he’s kind of soft.

The OU defense has been less than impressive. I hope Clemson like Venables.

Stoops would have looked like an idiot had he called in to the Texas game and campaigned when he still had a game on Saturday night, BoomerFrakkinLoser. He did plenty of campaigning Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday the week before, and I’m sure had the schedules been reversed, he would have called in to the Texas game on Saturday night. How you guys can continue to give him a pass on being this classy guy I’ll never know. Nice how he touted the four 60 point performances to close out the season and hanging 20 on OSU when he had his starters in with 27 seconds to play and doesn’t take a knee. Total hypocritical douchebag and he’ll get his either in this life or next.

  9. Stoops had an argument anyways so it would have been very stupid to call in. “They kicked the fucking shit out of us, but vote for us anyways”. Apparently a lot of the voters already had that in their mind so they didn’t need to be told.

  10. Boomer, luckily for us, Clemson kept their IHC (something called a Dabo Swinney), so we thus far are looking forward to seeing yet another mediocre coaching job put forth by Mr. Venables. But don’t worry, we’ll counter, check, and mate with our savant, the one, the only, the Greg Davis.

Ex Ex – The network contacted Stoops and asked him to be on the TX/aTm broadcast. He wasn’t going to call in. I see they don’t require reading comprehension beyond the 3rd grade south of the Red.

He declined because he had nothing left to say after whoring himself out to the media to whine about the BCS during the three previous days. I’m sure he would have declined too if the roles were reversed and his game was on Thursday while the Texas game was on Saturday. I see the inbreeding fosters single digit IQs north of the Red.

You didn’t get the memo??? It’s all about how well you run up the score. Offensive points is the only really valid criterion to properly judge teams…

“We ranked based on many criteria. Uniform colors. Ferocity of mascots. Tailgating scene. Quality of cheerleader tail.”

I like our chances. USC has us in cheerleading tail, but Burnt Orange is still in, Bevo is a bad-ass, and Austin dominates in tailgating volume.

Fox would soooooo broadcast that. Actually that’s not a bad idea…….

    What’s Simon Cowell’s number?

  15. We’re the highest ranked team carrying a gun. Underrated, imo.

  16. dedfischer, I hereby nominate you to use that weapon and do the right thing: assassinate Robert Stoops.

Everytime I see his smug mug I want to break my television. Now that these things costs a few grand it’s a losing proposition. I might have to buy a few CRTs off ebay just to relive the pleasure.

  17. I’m rooting for OU to win it all and Sam Bradford to for Heisman as I am highly anticipating the Landry Jones era. That’s if my West Texas sources are correct. He’s New Mexico’s version of Paul Thompson. I think if Stoops chokes again, Bradford will come back. Also, my sources indicate that Mason Walters may push for playing time as a true freshman, while Porter more than likely will be career depth. Not sure how much of this is true, but my dad picked it up from a Pony Express rider delivering him a telegram out of Carlsbad.

  18. Stoops declined because he didn’t want people talking about the arguments for and against Texas being above UT. That invariably results in the discussion of the head to head victory on a neutral field, and thats not what he wants to talk about.

And since when did arguing that your team beat both teams slated to be in the big 12 championship turn into some sort of unclassy act? Its nonsense, especially coming from trailer trash fans of a “university” that is yet again on major probation for cheating.

Good team that took number 1 seeded Louisville to the wire in last year’s tournament. Start 3 seniors and two juniors, very athletic. Solid pass first point guard. Their leading scorer was player of the year in the conference.

Good club that plays multiple defenses.

I just took Baylor going to the Elite 8. It’s a crazy mixed up world we live in.

Is it just me, or does it pain anyone else to not be able to determine who is going to beat Duke early? It’s bound to happen, but who will it be?

colorado ag, Utah State is as athletic as Nebraska. You’ll be fine as long as they don’t go 16 for 31 from three.

Siena, on the other hand, is going to beat you like you stole something. Maybe not, but the Saints should win.

Great article Scipio. Also, thanks for the dime.

Looking at the Tournament futures market, Vegas is telling us what they think about Onuaku’s health. The Orangemen have the easiest region and road to the fianl four, yet they’re +700 to win it all, while UK and Kansas, teams with much tougher roads, are +250

Possibly. However, I’m telling you – the beauty of these intergame lines is that when you see that all-too-familiar big early game lead that you know will evaporate down the stretch as soon as the team starts regressing to their 3 point shooting mean, there’s some money to be made.

Last year in Vegas, Friday morning, stumble to the line at 8:30 to make my bets, put $20 on a four-team parlay on the four 9:00 am games, nailed it! Three of the four games’ spread was determined in the final 0:30. Walked away with $220.

    I have:

    Syracuse
    Kansas
    West Virginia
    Baylor

These will all likely change 3-4 times before tomorrow morning.

I don’t have as high an opinion of Ohio State as you do. Evan Turner is fantastic, but I don’t like their odds of taking down Georgetown and KU back-to-back.

Baylor scares me. They have no idea what
