Martellus Bennett provides bulletin board material

Posted by HenryJames on November 24th, 2008 under Uncategorized

And the dude isn’t even in college. Anyway, former A&M and current Dallas Cowboy tight end Martellus Bennett pontificated on Thursday’s game.

“We always beat Texas,” Bennett said. “It wouldn’t be an upset. Well, maybe this year it would be. But we expect to beat Texas, the yellowbellies.

“My brother knocked McCoy out a while back, and we call him Cart McCoy now.”

As for whether the hit was legal, Martellus said: “Very legal. Colt McCoy, or Cart McCoy, is a pretty good player. But, hopefully, my brother gets some more hits on him.”

Maybe now Texas will do something about it.

  1. Ah, ‘tellus – he and his brother are always god for a sound bite to fire up the other team.

To paraphrase the movie “Bull Durham”: He’s got a million dollar body and a five cent head.

  2. I have a feeling his brother will turn an ankle in the walk through.

    Yellowbellies? That’s our line.

    What a fucking choad.

A pox on his ACLs. Both of them.

  5. I only see one way for y’all to “win” in the BCS from play us – and that’s to try to hang a hundred on us.

Don’t worry about me, though – I have my bottle of Jameson at the ready to help me through it.

  6. You are aware, of course, how out of place the word pontificated looks juxtaposed with Martellus. Reminds me of all of the nerds lying around on the beach trading deep thoughts with Ogre.

  7. Dude, did you just make a Revenge of Nerds 2 reference? That is scary.

Texas needs to break the 63 point mark versus A&M. We need to pelt them into a brand of submission that only 2 losses in a row can motivate.
Since it appears the “rest” somewhat control our destiny, why don’t we simply focus on beating the TARNATION out of the Ags. No mercy baby!
    Hook’em!!

  9. He’s not on the team, so what difference does it make? Is one of your players going to run into the stands and waylay ‘Tellus?

  10. I want McCoy to pull a Remember the Titans Sunshine hit on that motherfucker.

  11. I’m pretty sure Tellus plays for the Dallas Cowboys and they’ll be at Texas Stadium on thursday.

  12. And the other line from Tellus later in the interview was nothing short of golden.

Bennett was asked by numerous reporters if he had watched Terrell Owens interview on NFL Network. That’s when he offered up this gem.

“I don’t know what y’all are talking about,” Bennett said. “I got Time Warner.”

Does anyone really think Mack will bury TAMU?

He’ll call off the dogs early in the 4th quarter when the score’s 35-6 and let ‘em score another 2 gimme touchdowns. We may even get in to the end zone once more on a broken run. Final score: 42-20.

Hopefully Muschamp will have have something to say about it and at least carve a few off of that 20.

I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t see Mack burying the ags. Assuming we play well enought to develop a big lead, I expect that he’ll take his foot off the gas starting in the 4th quarter.

My sense is that he’s more concerned about other teams’ coaches & fans thinking he’s an ogre for running up the score than he is about dismantling an opponent and maximizing the outcome for his own team & fanbase. God knows that he’s got enough reasons to run it up this year.

I will be disappointed in anything less than a 52-10 type of score – we are completely capable, and there’s no reason not to make our best case on national TV. Call Stoops a dick if you want, but he’s not a bit shy about beating the crap out of inferior teams.

  15. I don’t see us hanging even HALF a hundred on atm, and it’s got nothing to do with talent disparities as between the respective teams. If Mack can’t convince the voters to elevate UT using politics, he’ll magnanimously accept whatever bowl invitation is forthcoming.

  16. Tech beat A&M by 18
    OU beat A&M by 38

That makes it at least 56 points needed for the final point differential… for me.
    And I wouldn’t mind a little more…
    73-7 final dream score.

  17. Dream Score?
    Eleventy Billion – 0

What’s my wager? Yes, a Buck.

That quote about Time Warner is gold.

  19. I completely agree. Mack pulls his foot off the gas in the 4th like he always does and they get 2 garbage TD’s. Meanwhile, Stoops and OU again get to show the voters the last thing they see before going to bed. OSU hates OU almost as much as we do, but I think their tank is empty. We need 50-60 points and Mack won’t go for it.

  20. Muschamp wouldn’t let Kansas get garbage points, and he sure as hell won’t want A&M to get any.

I think you underestimate the level of pain from this game from the past two years that Mack has seen.

I will be surprised if we see Chiles before our scoreboard reads 50.

  21. No amount is going to do it, short of 100-0, which Mack won’t and can’t do.

If OU beats a ranked OSU on Saturday Night, two days after we beat Tech, the voters and computers will elevate them. Let’s just get fired up for the Fiesta Bowl and if we get some grace of god combination of losses next weekend, then even better.

  22. Of Course, had we actually beaten Tech, as I just misstated, then we wouldn’t be in this mess.

  23. Colorado Big 12 Championship game in 2005.

It can be and has been done before the 4th quarter.

    If there’s a will, there’s a way.

I think part of Mack is worried about a backlash of votes against Texas that he believes would occur if we whacked A&M 70-7 or the like. Akin to, “well, you just ran up the score because you couldn’t beat Tech and now you want us to vote for you.” The glad-hander in him just can’t stand the idea that someone thinks he’s a prick and won’t want to shake his hand.

If that occurred, then we were never going to get there in the first place and there are other reasons for not getting the votes. More importantly, if we pull back on the reigns, we show weakly to those who will be watching Arizona & Philly in a tryptophan & red wine-induced stupor and will only see a modest victory in Fridays’ recap. In that case, we’ve forfeited our last best shot at making our case.

  25. The simple reality is that blowouts don’t matter until they matter, and now it’s too late to fix it. Texas is getting no credit for rolling Baylor and Kansas while OU and UF are the “best teams right now” because they know how to step on throats and publicly neuter opponents.

The primary function of a CFB Head Coach is to get his team in the best possible position he can to maximize the return on emotional investment from the boosters and fans that pay his salary and support his program. Mack the Pleaser reared his head recently and while some view his actions as noble, anyone who’s paid attention knows that he did what he did out of concern for other peoples’ opinions of him. That gets us nowhere now and the edge we’ll lose by if both UT and OU win this weekend will be the thousandths of points that the massive blowouts would have gotten us in the computer rankings (perhaps?) and additional votes from voters.

  26. Levander Williams said:

Not that I think a blowout win is a guarantee to stay ahead of OU. To be clear, anything other than a blowout win against A&M is a virtual guarantee that we’ll fall behind OU.

  27. I think these are all very valid points, but the one that rings most true is the Florida/OU “Best Team Out There” that CTJ brings up. If we really lay it on thick on A&M, image wise we end up getting a sour grapes label. Too Much, Too Late.

Having said all that, I want to lay half a hundred on A&M on general principle for the last two years. I just don’t think it gets us over the hump when OU is playing a ranked team after us and it’s all “what have you done for me lately”

  28. Depends, if Sally is pissed, we may score 200. Question is, when will she tell Mack how many points he is allowed to score.

I think Muschamp will give Mack a little thank you card named Zero Points for Sheep Humpers.

I am calling it now. Horns pitch the shut out.

  30. Hard fought game early, Horns start pulling away after first quarter. 38-14.

  31. Nothing seems to be easier than seeing someone whom you can help but not helping.
I suggest we start giving it a try. Give love to the ones that need it.
    God will appreciate it.
