Since when did private schools get to play in UIL? I wasn’t aware of this rule change. I noticed Strake Jesuit in the 5A D-II playoffs. Do they play in a public school district as well?

  2. Dallas Jesuit and Houston Strake Jesuit were allowed into the UIL in 2003.

  3. Smithson Valley should move easily in the next couple of rounds. I think your numbers Huck had then as a 7 point favorite over Pflugerville. They won 14-7. There was some heavy hitting from both sides.

Houston Texans coach Gary Kubiak played for St. Pius back in HS. He threw for over 6,000 yards and beat Strake a couple of times.

Now that he is back in Houston, his son, Klein, is a receiver for Strake.

Well, I’ll be damned. I don’t follow high school all that much, but it seems like I would have heard that. Thanks.

Huck- can you help me with the acronyms from the ratings?

    PMV
    NMV

Also, can you point me to an explanation of how the power rankings are derived.

    Thanks Huck!

  6. The PMV and NMV ratings sets just mean “Pure Margin of Victory” and “No Margin of Victory.” They are the components that combine to produce the overall ratings on the left. The PMV set uses the actual score of the game to determine the share of the game score that the winning team receives. The NMV set doesn’t look at the score and assigns a predetermined share to each winner.

The power ratings are calculated by comparing a team’s opponent’s performance in each game to the opponent’s performance in all other games. This is done for each game and numerous iterations are done until the ratings stabilize. The schedule rating on the far right is simply the average power rating of a team’s opponents. I don’t think that’s the best way to determine a schedule rating and I’m hoping to revisit that in the future.

  7. #7 Plano has to play #1 Euless Trinity in the second fucking round? Wow. That’s unfortunate scheduling.

  8. That’s DFW.

In another good contest, the #5 and #9 teams in the power ratings play when The Woodlands goes to Round Rock to play Stony Point. They’re #3 and #6 in 5A.

  9. The two teams that won as 28+ underdogs…. what happened? did the other QB get injured or their coach busted with an 8 ball?

  10. Those two were DeKalb upsetting Melissa in 2A and Mansfield upsetting Abilene in 5A. I haven’t read any recaps of the games, but I didn’t hear about any injuries. Just big upsets, I guess.

  11. James Gray’s son is a freshman started at RB for Aledo. Heard he’s been tearing it up. Should be an interesting recruiting battle.

  12. I don’t get it. Where is Austin Hi!?

  13. Austin attorney Mike Cotten was unaware he’s the answer to a high school football trivia question.

Who is the last quarterback from Austin High School to win a game in the state playoffs?

It was, indeed, Cotten, who guided the Maroons to consecutive playoff victories over Corpus Christi Ray and Jefferson High of San Antonio. In 1957.

    Pwn3d.

  14. Sherman would take both of those guys in a second. They’ve already got awkward male bonding thing down. Throw in the Afro hobbitt at the end of the bus for the trifecta.

  15. Mansfield just flat out beat an overrated Abilene team that came out of a weak district. Stefan Taylor (Stanford commit) from Mansfield is the Real Deal.

That being said, here is my son tackling the Real Deal:

  16. Well, I thought I knew how to do that.

  17. Fixed it for you.

  18. Ag,

In order to post a picture you have to have a winning record.

Once you obtain that, your picture goes through multiple layers of censorship, encoding, and formatting; leaving the end result often quite different from what you intended.

It’s pretty much a perfect system.

  19. lol, bitch

  20. Put up the actual pick, and I’ll post it.

  21. Hey, that’s some great information you got there. Archer Episode 2 is coming soon!

    Big East intimidation?  Pff, whatever.

    Halftime Thoughts

Except for some sloppy ball-handling from Darko, Davis, and Tairu, I couldn’t be happier with the way we’re playing.  Obviously Herb Pope’s punch to Darko’s groin and subsequent ejection was the defining event.  Tech went on a 13-0 run after the play, and that equals our lead at this point.

If NU really wants to win they need to take a page from TO’s coaching career.

    1. Never let great talent leave the state, Nebraska is desolate for talent so when a good player comes around you have to land him.

    2. Develop a “system” where talent can flourish and help the team.

Kiffin’s father is a great coach, but the rest of that staff isn’t. Orgeron and Kiffin are both good, dirty recruiters and mediocre to poor gameday coaches.

How important is that in college football? How good of a gameday coach is Mack Brown? Greg Davis?

Orgeron is actually a damn fine defensive line coach,

Ginobili is just incredible to watch right now. Just goes to show how hurt he really must have been last season.
