Yeah your right, penders teams were at least fun to watch play. Barnes offense is pretty bad not as bad as Tom’s but its all relative to who is watching the worst offense in Texas history.

Our hoops team is the basketball version of Major League.
Jake Taylor = Damion James
Pedro Cerrano = Dexter Pittman
Willie Mays Hays = Avery Bradley
Roger Dorn = Justin Mason
Isuro Tanaka (Major League II) = Dogus Balbay
Rube Baker (Major Leauge II) = Jordan HamiltonIf Craig Way starts drinking whiskey during the broadcasts, it’ll complete the analogy.

The Morningstar FT was terrible and hilarious. He said the ball was wet, which clearly means Texas was cheating somehow. Would the second chance off balance leaner

I don’t think McCoy played anywhere near the level of Suh and the numbers make it clear that he did not. Suh had twice as many tackles (77-31), sacks (11-5) and nearly tackles for loss (22-14.5). Suh also broke up 10 passes, if he gets stonewalled on the rush he doesn’t allow it to take

EP, I get your point, but I don’t think the fact that Texas hasn’t won a tourney came as an underdog doesn’t support it. Teams are favored because they are better. The odds that they win are greater than those who are not favored. It’s not like Texas goes into games with a secret weapon

Dear I TT ON YOU and any other Tech fans here trolling,
If you read the various long horn sites there is practically no one saying the refs cost UT the game. NOONE! What we are saying is that the refs in the Big 12 do not call holding. We were complaining about his after we beat OU, so it wasn’t sour grapes then and it isn’t now. But we are pissed off that our best defensive player was injured because the refs flatly refused to do their job.
srr50 said:

An officials primary responsibility is to protect the players. I don’t blame the TT offensive line for the junk they do, because the officials let them get away with it.
You call penalties for two reasons: to try and keep the level of play fair, and to avoid injuries.
At some point you have to take into account that simply ignoring the rules will lead to injury.

TT: I went to Tech. Be a gracious winner. Texas played a hell of a game, and Orakpo is a terrific player. We would be happy to have him as a Red Raider. I am glad to hear that the injury is nothing serious.
Though I missed the play above, I noted a lot of holding and other extra-curricular activity going on throughout the game. I even commented on it during the live blog over on DTN. Leach has been very vocal in the past about the quality of the Big XII officiating. It hasn’t improved. It’s sad that the one holding call that was made (that I recall) was against Texas and it shouldn’t have been called. Williams just fell down.
Happy for the win, but it never tastes as sweet when the players end up injured and the officiating is a mockery.

That was an obvious hold by Rylan Reed, and I have no doubt that the refs missed some holds on the Tech offensive line.
The thing that is obviously ridiculous is that you have a UT fan arguing that the refs need to call a fair game to protect the players. How did the refs protect the Texas Tech player that was blatantly hit in the back on Shipley’s punt return?
I’m no doctor, but I would consider a full speed hit to a players back a little more dangerous than a player having their arm around another player.
I understand your concern for the safety of Orakapo and your upset that he was injured on the play, but don’t forget that a Tech player was blocked in the back, he received no flag for his effort. Luckily for everyone he wasn’t injured.

Tim. Again missing the entire point of the post. He is nothing if not consistent.
Blown calls happened both ways. But you’re talking about one play versus repeated, consistent, flagrant holding by the Tech o-line. The block in the back shouldn’t have happened, but to justify the complete lack of calls of holding by using that is ridiculous. You certainly didn’t see Texas repeatedly “blocking in the back” just because the refs missed that one call.
The entire point is that if Tech had been called on holding even twice, the injury might never have happened since logic would imply that your offensive line would be smart enough not to keep penalizing their team.
And his arm just isn’t “around” Orakpo. He is in the process of literally shoving him to the ground.
I TT ON U said:
November 3rd, 2008 at 7:10 pm
Tim if you watch the punt return closely, you’ll see there were two different Tech players blocked in the back.
After following the link here earlier, and reading these CRY BABY WHINERS, I went back to watch the game and see for myself. I hit resume on my DVR and saw the second half kickoff. On the third play after half I saw Texas’ #71 holding Tech’s #57 Brian Duncan.
No Further research was needed.
And to you nm99, I haven’t said anything derogatory here, but they’ve insulted me many times.
I’m actually a fan of Mack and McCoy as well. I think they have a fine football team that could very well still be national champs.
I just don’t like these lame excuses after they’ve been beaten fair and square.
Trust me on this, I ABSOLUTELY HATE IT EVEN MORE WHEN IT COMES FROM A TECH FAN! I talk to them the same way.

I’m new to the site and just wanted to say I enjoy reading all the stuff on here, even though I go to Tech. As far as the game, we held quite a bit and the refs didn’t call it. But at the same time UT played witht he same officials. If I’m UT’s coaches, I’m probablly going to tell my O-line to hold back. And don’t be so quick to forget we got shafted in Austin last year guys. That door swings both ways. I honestly wouldn’t be suprised to hear that Leach told the O-line that since they were Big XII refs, see if we can get away with it. You hate to see guys go down, and especially with a knee injury. Thankfully Orakpo’s okay.
Oh, and Dick, it’s the condescending-prick-I-am-God’s-gift-to-the-world UT fans such as yourself that make this win so much sweeter for fans like me. The fact that this was the Horns’ year to make another run at the MNC, only to lose to us, makes me smile bigger than you can imagine.
To rest of the good and decent UT fans out there, I have a feeling I’ll know how you guys feel here in about 3 weeks. I can see us beating the Pokes, but I don’t think we have a snowball’s chance in hell of winning in Norman.

Hey TechFan06 – Texas was NOT expected to make a run at the MNC. Nobody….NOBODY expected the Horns to be in the national title picture. The majority of (realistic) Horns fans predicted 2-3 losses.
Now 2009….the national title is more realistic. Remember you lose Harrell, Crabtree, and several linemen. And probably Leach as well – so you can expect a good ol’ butt whoopin’ in Austin next year. Remember those wonderful mediocre years (like under Spyke)??

Yeah, those reviews that were conclusive really cost you a game Texas ran away with.
TechFan06 said:

DP, every Horns fan I know said you guys would win by 2 TDs. All we heard all week was same Tech offense and no Tech Defense. I said but no, not this year, yet nobody believed me. I said we either lose by 2-3 TD’s or win on the last posession.
And you honestly want to tell me that after the gauntlet of OU, MIZZOU, and OSU, you didn’t think you guys would beat us? After us, who else is left? The Jayhawks? We hung 63 on them. So I don’t buy that you guys thought you’d have 2 or 3 losses. Maybe at the beginning of the season, but certainly not after the start you had.
I know we won’t be as good next year. I don’t live in a fairy tale world. However, I disagree about Leach. News came out today that the admin will be renegotiating his contract after the season, even though he has 2 more years on it remaining. This year could be the one that really helps out our recruiting and maybe we can start getting the level of players that UT and OU have. Obviously not the number, but hopefully talent wise we can comepete.
I guess I just want you to realize that I’m not one of the kids that lives in the fantasy world and thinks we’re at the same level with UT and OU. We’re not and I know that. Just don’t get mad when there comes a day that we will be. Like I said, I really think this year could really help out our program talent wise, but only time will tell.
TG, I’ve already said that I wasn’t really impressed with the officiating Saturday night. All I was saying is the door swings both ways. And Texas ran away with the ‘07 game in the 4th quarter. Basically what you want is to be able to make excuses but when I say something that is a mirror of yours, that particular game was automatically in the bag.
