How to treat people who work for you when they get offered an opportunity to better their career

From the AAS blog:

“Will will be a great head coach,” Brown said. “He’s smart. He’s tough. He’s got a great relationship with the kids. … He’s demanding, and he’s as positive as he is demanding.”

  3. Muh muh muh me and Mack Brown go way back.

  4. I assume that the main reason Muschamp made a lateral move from Auburn to Texas was the idea that Mack sold him on getting his graduate degree on “Being a Head Coach,” on the Austin campus.

There is little doubt that Mack is the best to learn about the CEO aspects of being a Head Football Coach at a D-1 power.

All the aspects of the job that an assistant — even a coordinator doesn’t really have to deal with, can be learned here. How the head coach has to be the closer in recruiting, how he has to massage the media and fanbase, how he has to oversee the facilities and make sure that the program is at the head of the line when it comes to the trappings of major programs.

Hell, Mack’s even got Muschamp taking golf lessons.

Muschamp took the Texas job, because a year-long bath in Barton Springs will remove the SEC taint.
Then ADs will be willing to touch him and offer a job.

Before coming to Austin he smelled too much like cheating booster aftershave from all those years at LSU and Auburn.

  6. he can leave. we suck

  7. Will’s will will will Will and this defense on to victory.

  8. Is it possible that maybe, just maybe there might be an agreement that he is promised the takeover position once Mack retires? Really how many more years can Mack take this stuff? Look at what he looks like after just over ten years–I remember when his hair was dark! He had to get wheeled to the game day desk post Mizzou game! Lazy-hardly but old or worn down-most definitely.

  9. Just a hunch, but I think the end of the year talk will go like this:

MB: Will, you’ve done a great job. D’ya wanna stay here in Austin?
    WM: FUCK YEAH!!
MB: Great! We’re happy to have you. That was emphatic – why so sure?
WM: I make more dollars, BOOM, than any other coordinator, FUCK YEAH, you’ll probably pay me even more now, BLOOD, as much as some HC’s, GUTS, and my wife loves the town and hates moving, BOOM BITCH! Plus, you probably only have four or five more years – OUT O’ MY WAY MOTHER FUCKER.
MB: Great. And we’ll be happy to pay you a little more, hope that gives you more confidence in your decision.
WM: FUCK YEAH! BLOOD, GUTS, AND BOOM MOTHER FUCKERS!
MB: Tell that wifey of yours Sally and I said ‘hi’.
    WM: Cheerio…MOTHER FUCKER!

  10. Will, what would you do with that extra $2 mil.?

  11. WM: Give bonuses to any and all D-linemen who bring me still-beating hearts, FUCK YEAH, LB’s that sack a quarterback with their own tailback, SUPER FUCK YEAH, and DB’s who shit out a head-filled helmet from last week’s team, BOOM MOTHER FUCKER!
Oh, and give some to my favorite charity, Miracles…

  12. Was that Joe Biden in the video?

Good team that took number 1 seeded Louisville to the wire in last year’s tournament. Start 3 seniors and two juniors, very athletic. Solid pass first point guard. Their leading scorer was player of the year in the conference.

Good club that plays multiple defenses.

I just took Baylor going to the Elite 8. It’s a crazy mixed up world we live in.

Is it just me, or does it pain anyone else to not be able to determine who is going to beat Duke early? It’s bound to happen, but who will it be?

colorado ag, Utah State is as athletic as Nebraska. You’ll be fine as long as they don’t go 16 for 31 from three.

Siena, on the other hand, is going to beat you like you stole something. Maybe not, but the Saints should win.

Great article Scipio. Also, thanks for the dime.

Looking at the Tournament futures market, Vegas is telling us what they think about Onuaku’s health. The Orangemen have the easiest region and road to the fianl four, yet they’re +700 to win it all, while UK and Kansas, teams with much tougher roads, are +250

My brackets are pretty much locked down except the South. Can’t get myself to take Baylor, and Duke doesn’t feel right. Nobody seems to be high on Nova. It’s all about the Big East and Big 12 this year.

Possibly. However, I’m telling you – the beauty of these intergame lines is that when you see that all-too-familiar big early game lead that you know will evaporate down the stretch as soon as the team starts regressing to their 3 point shooting mean, there’s some money to be made.

Last year in Vegas, Friday morning, stumble to the line at 8:30 to make my bets, put $20 on a four-team parlay on the four 9:00 am games, nailed it! Three of the four games’ spread was determined in the final 0:30. Walked away with $220.

Jordan, all just wild, premature conjecture. I’d hedge that only a third of that 2013 list ever makes an NFL roster. It is picking which third that is the tough part.

    I have:

    Syracuse
    Kansas
    West Virginia
    Baylor

These will all likely change 3-4 times before tomorrow morning.

I don’t have as high an opinion of Ohio State as you do. Evan Turner is fantastic, but I don’t like their odds of taking down Georgetown and KU back-to-back.

Baylor scares me. They have no idea what

On another note, the game against tech is gonna be on ESPN. Time for SMU to step it up on the national stage again.
